This makes an awful lot of sense to me. James stick with liam he knows his stuff. I was in the golf business for 50+ years as a Golf Pro, a failed player, teacher, course owner, so for any young aspiring player out there take note --- THIS IS GOLD.--- Well done James for putting it out there,Especially well done to you Liam for sharing it . Loved It.
I find it interesting that you guys are talking about swing, as so many other "coaches" do, when most golfers have swing issues caused by poor address fundamentals, most importantly alignment.
A lot of my swing videos are down the line including the ones taken in the pros studio, he does however stand to the side of me to watch my swings which tells you he knows, I've dropped 10 stokes off my handicap this year having a lesson every month, but you have to also work this stuff out for yourself using the help of the teaching pro you can't passively learn, I also started mobility training at the same time and I'm convinced that has played a part in my improvement as well as increased short game/putting practice having some technique increases your confidence no end. Often we just just parrot what we hear, terms like getting stuck, or exit left etc...when often we have no clue what just happened and we go down rabbit holes adding to even more confusion, I started sending my pro my swings taken at the range and course and then at my lesson I tell him what I think is right and wrong and get his unsugar coated feedback on my analysis, I find that a really good way to learn about your own swing misconceptions.
this is true to an extent i think the problem is with most golf coaches and the golf swing in general is that its so confusing to a bloke who works a 9-5 and plays once every weekend if they go get a lesson and your talking about high level stuff they arent gonna understand it at all its like trying to explain high level maths to a primary school kid its just not gonna apply to them at all now this is where if you truly want to improve you have to almost learn a bit yourself and understand why things happen ive gone from a 20+ handicap to a 6 handicap in 2 years my swing has changed ALOT and by this point ive done so much research and experimentation to learn what i now know and it hasnt been easy and i think thats just how it is so most golf coaches dumb it down as much as possible and will give people some information but does it apply to them probably not there issues are probably way more complicated then they could ever imagine and thats why I think golf coaches also get alot of hate people will have 6 lessons and not improve because the coach either told them some iceberg level information about grip and setup and basic swing plane concepts and then the player will be like ah ha ive got it all figured out now and thats not how it works and it will never work like that not to mention its like 30 minute hour lessons which is not alot of time so its easier for a coach to say x information thanks for the money and then do the same to lots of different clients and if they buy another lesson or pay for a bundle they will say a bit more but thats not so much the case because then most people will know how the golf club is properly swung and how the body moves etc at the end of the day this game is so hard and most people dont think that then the best coaches out of all of them are the ones that can dumb it down but also make progress with there clients but thats so rare to find now days (or you could become your own coach but thats alot of work and its not easy)
The explanation at 10.50 is what Mac O Grady explained in many of his video's. The club moves outwards about 10 inches in first part of downswing then more vertically natural hinging downwards. Rather like Pete Cowan's explanation of what Seve said ' move it into a position where a natural force can help you '
That is what my coach told me - move your hands out and gravity shallows the club head, then hands down and round, move hands down first and shaft steepens and club head comes over the top of the shaft
@@justinstephenson9360 Yes, and if you look at Mac O Grady video titled ' Coaching Shoulder Plane ' at 1.50 point in video Mac gives a very good illustration of club moving outwards first before it starts it uncocking more vertical approach to the ball. Probably he had the best understanding of swing mechanics and he could hit it as good as anybody.
Hello, I am an artist, a painter : I have the ability to design an inner target project it, and connect it to an outer target . Before drawing a triangle or a cube, I might, point a few dots, three points , and I can see a shape with my mind . I can project it in motion, and deformation, like the ball I squash . And if it takes only one exentric exit point up, even better . This is very interesting a subject . Like ulnar outer push and uppercut extension crush . I really liked the video, thank you .
Nice idea. Also noticed that when people pull on the grip it tends to open the face or at least hold the face off, so now you get guys on top trying to hit down and pulling the handle torquing the club open. Just a total disaster way to try to play
have you considered getting players (particularly scoopers) to hit balls from a steep downslope with intention of hitting as low as possible with a 7 iron for example, it forces you to get forward and get the AOA steeper.
Great video I've been doing the towel drill wrong as well letting my hands drop down, at least I can correct it now explains why I'm hitting the so high and can't flight it cheers
Great insights. So is “sway gap” just another buzzword? Also do you see any merit in a golf swing videoed from above (Birds Eye) for swing analysis?. Tx
Funny, I only used to film myself onlydown the line. My swing looked beautiful, but I kept topping it or taking a lot of turf. Turns out I was flipping it more than a circus acrobat. In the process of changing that now but it's a struggle.
This is me! Always get told I have a “pretty” swing. On plane down the line. Why aren’t you single figure? Yep, the face-on reveals the absolute monstrosity of a swing with consistent +AoA and shanksville when I move the low point forward. Focusing on DTL ruined my swing for years. I’ve always struggled to load into the lead side. Love to get stuck and spin out. 😭
It’s definitely been painful. This insight is gold. Saved right onto my phone. Getting back on it whilst keeping the hands up has never once been suggested by a pro. A real game changer.
Just a thought but the reason that the 'front-on' camera shot is not provided as often is because most amateurs can only learn in driving range bays and bays are incredibly tight and don't lend themselves to front-on video.
I think the miss is two fold. The most obvious is space. On the range there is plenty of room behind you but to film face on You have to use an extra spot Which usually is not available. Second, there isn’t clear instruction on what you are looking for from face on. DTL you have all the p positions, face angle, shallowing, hip rotation, club exit. What should we be looking at face on?
More down the line vids. One reason is very difficult to film face on at a driving range. Sky show more down the line drives since the advent of "shot tracer" which adds to the viewing experience.
Agree with all you say except too much talk everywhere about "stabilizing the clubface at impact", "holding the face square", etc. The club is travelling at 100mph+, huge forces are involved, the club naturally rolls over, it can't be stopped, but still we are told to fight against this. Videos are confusing, a pro hits a short iron, takes a huge divot, the club head comes to a full stop, then the pro demonstrates how his hands lead the club head into the follow through while holding the face "square". A true video shows that, with no ball or ground impact, the swing is L to L every time (P5 to P9) unless you spin the shoulders very fast in which case the second L is a bit later (P5 to P9 1/2) and you end up in hospital!
You two boys should do a golf podcast. This is proper golf chat. Could listen for hours. Happy Christmas

Agreed ... it makes a lot of sense. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

This was a proper clarity moment for me watching this video. Cheers for sharing
Great video, I’m very guilty of only looking at down the line and this what I’ve always been coached.

Love this content, refreshing insights - unlike the bs most golf influencers vomit. Keep it coming !!
This is 100% me... massive hip bump, loads of right side bend, big low point issues. Cheers 😂

My coach is brutal with this. Uses the front on view every lesson to highlight all the stuff I don’t wanna see!
Great video I've been doing the towel drill wrong as well letting my hands drop down, at least I can correct it now explains why I'm hitting the so high and can't flight it cheers
Good luck 👊

They have business interest to make you keep coming like taking car to workshop
First had my swing videoed in 1988, still have the videos - both DTL and face on. Obviously, before golf coaching became trend based 👍

Sounds like you’re close mate! You’ve got through the painful bit now

Having lessons with Liam at the moment , quick question does the drills apply with driver 3 wood etc ? Cheers Colin
Hey mate we actually talked about that in the last video with Liam about the towel
@ thanks James will check back 👍🏼🏌️♂️
Vivian Saunders put it simply return club from top of backswing to address position
Stupid

If you swing a rope in tempo with free flow your ahead of the game big time never look at positions.

Can we get some driver videos 🙏🙏
I really struggling with golf my swing give me bad back and I can’t stop hitting over the top it’s embarrassing
My online lessons are half price atm. Find me on skillest if you want me to have a look 👊
