  • Someone pointed out how I reference SAE wrench and socket sizes, so I decided I'd figure out what it really meant and pass that info along. The next video in this series will be how to tell if you're missing SAE sizes in sockets and wrenches.

    Outside of the US, they will often be referred to as Imperial. This dates back to the expansion of the British Empire, which sought to standardize units of measure. Take the Rule of Thumb, for instance. My hand is not the same size as the next guy's, so my thumb could be larger or smaller. Can you imagine buying steel rods, for instance, based on one Vendor's thumb size? LOL Also, measurements of weight were in "stone," and we know that Granite is a helluva lot heavier than Sandstone, so a "Standard" was developed for exact measurements across the board.
