I have not been I want to go so badly I'm just seeing your comment I just found this channel Im trying to research the amounts about how much it will cost to travel to Japan for 2 people can u help me?
it so dose I've had some at London mcm expo and its just so delicious I'm going to try and make some with my friends thanks JapaneseCooking101 for this tutorial ^^
Cooked this a while ago and I really enjoyed. One thing I can recommend is to pour the marinade to a small saucepan and boil it, adding some extra soy sauce and cooking sake if there's too little amount. The fat leaking from the chicken to the marinade mixed with the sauce makes it an amazing dipping sauce for the karaage.
I just made this recipe tonight, and it's really good! It's hard to find good karaage in the US, so I figured I'd just make my own. This recipe tastes just like the karaage I had in Japan!
Tried cooking with twice. I used Chinese shaoxing cooking wine the first time and Japanese cooking sake the second time, both turned out quite well. I tried cooking it to dark brown to get more crunchiness. 11/10 will cook again
We recommend sake to get the authentic flavor, but yes, you can skip it if you don't have one. Make sure you put other ingredients though such as fresh ginger. Deep fried chicken can't go wrong really!
Excellent work and amazing skills !! You made it looked so easy ,but i know this is not an easy job and needs years of practice plus learning from many many failures. Bravo keep up the good work.
You can skip the sake in this recipe if you don't have one. There will be less liquid, so you should make sure that chicken is coated with the marinade on all sides. The flavor will still be good.
since their website is slow af, here's the ingredients: 4 chicken thighs 2 Tbsp Sake 1 Tbsp soy sauce 1/4 tsp salt 1-2 tsp garlic, grated 1-2 tsp ginger, grated 1/2 cup all purpose flour 1/2 cup corn starch salt and pepper oil for deep frying
I've made this a few times. That marinade is the best chicken and pork marinade I've found. The only thing I add is some chili flake and ground black pepper.
Do you have to use sake? I don't have any so is it important or can I use a substitution? This looks so good, I can't wait to try it! Thank you for the recipe!
I have always used mirin instead of sake when making karaage. Apparently it's pretty much the same thing, but for cooking. :) I got my karaage recipe from someone else(runnyrunny999 I think) and they used mirin too, and they also use ginger in it. Very yummy. :P
Karaage is SO GOOD! I want to go back to Japan so I can eat conbini karaage and Coco's curry every day, I will definitely try this recipe as well!
I missed the curry so much from Japan that I make it myself now, I made some tonight actually
*CONBINI*

I've made a video about Japan, Malee: ua-cam.com/video/bNXxkC5GB84/v-deo.html Karaage is included. It's like when you're traveling but you're online.
I LOVE Karaage! It puts KFC to shame.
it so dose I've had some at London mcm expo and its just so delicious I'm going to try and make some with my friends thanks JapaneseCooking101 for this tutorial ^^

You're welcome!
what shall i use instead of sake
Juicy karaage namba one. Wau!
- Mayuri Shiina
Shokugeki no soma brought me here. O.O
Veronica Naquimen same here o-o
can I skip sake ? if not what are other alternatives that don't include alcohol etc.. ?
Crystal water and sugar
I mean, if it's the alcohol you're worried about, it will evaporate when you fry the chicken. It just leaves the flavour
Crystal white grape juice and rice vinnegar works well, use 3:1 ratio
Sake replacements?
sugar is not necessary ? I will try now good year for everyone !! loves from brazil
I've used potato flour and that works well. Would it be a good idea to use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour?
I love karaage, but my step-dad can't have wheat. Will this recipe still work if I just use corn starch without the flour?
Yes, just corn starch will work just fine. It's called Tatsutaage and we fry more fish that way. (We have a video for that, too!)
+JapaneseCooking101 how about flour without corn starch?
Yorabz 31981
that will work, too!
+Willow River (Siren) Potato starch would work and still be authentic.
Tm
We don't have sake or rice wine here. What is the good replacement to it if it is not available? Will the karaage will taste fine without it?
Thank you!
hi just asking, is it possible to exclude sake?
Hello, Gyu Kaku uses a sauce for this: what sauce is used to dip this karaage into? Thanks!
Uenak tenaan...👍
Hi, I reall like Frys Vegitable. can you make a recipe for it?
Can it be baked instead of deep fry?
Here due to covid19, stay home order. Just watching all recipes.
Can we use sweet rice flour for the flour to dredge the chicken in or is that too much.
What kinda things would you have along with this?
Is there a difference in texture if I use potato starch instead of corn starch?
Can you do the same with salmon?
Is it ok to use whole-wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour?
Instead of sake can I use mirin?
i dont have sake here, what if i cook it without sake? what is the sake for?
Can I bake the chicken instead of frying it with oil?
It won't be as crispy as frying 😶
I know this thing but thanks to soma I wanted to cook this badly
Can we use an air fryer.
Can you please give the picture if all purpose flour packet ?
My son love's karage chicken
what can i use as subtitue to both white wine and sake
Mirin. :)
itachi12258 If you can't use any form of alcohol,an equal amount of strong chicken broth/bouillon works alright.
i looooooooooooooooooover karaage! buy it all the time for lunch :D
Is the Sake really necessary?
Is sake necessary?
what is the oil used for deep frying?
Vegetable oil
What happens if I use potato starch?
Hello, I only have chicken breasts. Can we make it with this part of the chicken?
If we don't have sake .. Are we able to use mirin?
Britt D just use water. It'll be an okay substitute
where do you get sake
I just use potato starch?
This is a real karaage recipe.
Sake? Is that the wine in japan? I've heard it like several times on anime
Yes it’s Japanese rice wine
Hello,
is there any non-alcoholic substitute for the Sake?
Try apple cider! That's what I'm going to do.
+Sarah Nemo thanks dear
Of course! majdees
+Sarah Nemo Thanks
+Sarah Nemo How did it turn out?
What if you cant get saki because your a minor and no one in the fam drinks, what else can i use or i dont really need it?
I have always used mirin instead of sake when making karaage. Apparently it's pretty much the same thing, but for cooking. :) I got my karaage recipe from someone else(runnyrunny999 I think) and they used mirin too, and they also use ginger in it. Very yummy. :P
Thanks
やってみるかな。。。。??美味しそうに みえてます ね。。
Do you have to use ginger?
Since it's seasoning I doubt it'll matter
+Pumpkin Warrior
The ginger's pretty important. The chicken will taste bland without it.
skyraid2 u don't have to, but the flavor will drop.
Can I use chicken wings?
Yukihira Soma :D
uhhhmmm any substitute for sake? can't find any sake here in PH, please help.
John Paul Lorenzo sugar and water
you sure??
John Paul Lorenzo sake is Japanese rice wine. you can subs it with chinese cooking wine.
John Paul Lorenzo or use white grape juice and rice vinnegar( use 3:1 ratio) :)
With what I can replace sake?
Just try Grape juice with lemon.
@@mas4322 trm ksh infonya
I don't like sake, can I skip the ingredient, or do I have to use it.

This recipe is slightly different from the one i saw on AllRecipies.com. i wanna try this version but im fresh outta sake
Sucks my family won't eat deep fried food. This looks so tasty *sigh*
Make it and eat it alone!!
Fried food once in a while won't kill you.

what can i use as substitute for sake?
White wine
Mirin. :)

Juicy KARAAGE NUMBER 1 WOW!
