It's obvious that this sort of chaos is not God's will (for the poor you will have with you always). Only those who live outside of the negative consequences of this lawless expression of misguided compassion can afford to continue to virtue signal while fellow legal citizens who are truly needy and should be helped first, go without. Is he ignoring this glaring, deadly reality, or does he not believe what Scripture says about when life begins (Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5)? Moore also seems to be saying that there is no way that a person who votes for Republicans who are pro-life are somehow advocating that there is no other provision/help for others who are in need. Does Russell Moore still support the Democrat party when its candidate for president, Kamala Harris, told the young men who said "Jesus is Lord" and "Christ is King" that "you guys are at the wrong rally"? My oldest son who was from the foster care system was trafficked for labor by a ministry in Atlanta. He went through a period of homelessness and addiction after he aged out and wound up at a homeless shelter where this church recruited men to be a part of their "recovery" program. They would house about 18 men in the back of an old Kroger in the worst part of Atlanta. It was overcrowded and bed bug infested. Men with serious medical needs were neglected. Each day, the pastor would bus the men out to his McMansion for them to perform free labor on his remodel. My son had an abscess tooth that went untreated for a year while he tiled the house of this pastor. My point is this: never underestimate the depravity of mankind and its ability to mistreat people and call it godly.
If you take Moore's view, they would be the very least of these. And yet, Moore will vote for their destruction so coyotes can continue to traffic children.

Russell Moore could not be more wrong. He is drawing a false equivalent in saying that a person must vote for Democrats because they purport to care for the poor/those in need, and that by voting for a Republican means that the person does not care for or support any other people in need. My question to him is: what about the current Democrat platform that advocates for abortion on demand with no limitations? Is he ignoring this glaring, deadly reality, or does he not believe what Scripture says about when life begins (Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5)? Moore also seems to be saying that there is no way that a person who votes for Republicans who are pro-life are somehow advocating that there is no other provision/help for others who are in need. Does Russell Moore still support the Democrat party when its candidate for president, Kamala Harris, told the young men who said "Jesus is Lord" and "Christ is King" that "you guys are at the wrong rally"? I am praying that Mr. Moore will see the truth of Scripture on these issues. Thank you, Allie, for speaking the truth of Scripture, and speaking it in love and grace.
Maybe there needs to be a campaign of believers who ask Timothy Dalrymple to consider having Russell Moore make a public apology and then release him from his position at Christianity Today.
I'm going out on a limb here but I think both come from the same theological and political bent. So don't hold your breath for any accountability.
Dalrymple is probably worse. He got on a jet and flew to a faux-wedding several years before Obergfell, before Moore was even well known.
I think Kamala showed us her true colors. She’s most genuine and confident when talking about what she truly believes, like abortion rights. Her confidence and cockiness in her response told me everything I had to know.

It's sad that this phrase has fallen out of fashion and been replaced with "words are violence" or "your words oppress me." I think we all (especially children) need to bring "sticks & stones" back into fashion.

I think ppl get confused or don't read in context, or simply don't read the whole chapter to support verses. I agree with you on "The Least of These"
We think too lightly of committing the sin of slander. Read what Paul wrote in 2 Tim 3 (referenced specifically in verse 3). You can tell Mr. Moore likes to read his own words and thinks highly of himself. But that doesn't justify misrepresenting someone's argument to "dunk on them." It sounded repulsively pompous - at best. (Full of guile/deceit at worst.)

My oldest son who was from the foster care system was trafficked for labor by a ministry in Atlanta. He went through a period of homelessness and addiction after he aged out and wound up at a homeless shelter where this church recruited men to be a part of their "recovery" program. They would house about 18 men in the back of an old Kroger in the worst part of Atlanta. It was overcrowded and bed bug infested. Men with serious medical needs were neglected. Each day, the pastor would bus the men out to his McMansion for them to perform free labor on his remodel. My son had an abscess tooth that went untreated for a year while he tiled the house of this pastor.
My point is this: never underestimate the depravity of mankind and its ability to mistreat people and call it godly.

"The lest of these" also means young believers, the folks that had no way to earn a living: kids, widowed, etc. But as you stated context matters, which is why it's important to use multiple translations of the Bible when studying. No different that if you were to study for say the ww2, you would read multiple authors, pre-war, post war, etc! I was listening to a Bret Weinstein podcast and I like is definition and comparison, Nationalism vs Patriotism. "Nationalism is what your country can do for you, it's using/seeing your nation as a weapon effectively, and patriotism is your willingness to sacrifice for that nation and in any case."

You should judge a policy based on its principles and its results. Some policies will have the best principles while not getting the exact results you want, and that’s ok. Other policies will get the results you want but by wicked means, which isn’t good.
Good principles first, good results second.
