I probably shoot more 30-30 than anything else these days. A couple boxes of ammo and a single shot leads to an afternoon of fun. This round forces one to actually hunt. And THAT'S when the fun really begins. Thanks for the vid.

Great woods gun or brush gun. Hit anything in the heart or lungs they will go down. I love lever actions.

I started out hunting with a 30-30 Winchester 94. I still hunt with this same rifle. It has taken moose, caribou, deer, coyote and what ever else needed. Has always worked. .I love my rifle and wouldn't even consider any thing else.

I have had and hunted with 30-30 for 50 years. Had two of them one was my father’s .Now my nephew has one and my grandson has the other. Both of them 336 Marlins and they have always taken deer, however the 30-06 is king of the woods, planes , and mountains.👍✌🏻🇺🇸🙏🏽😎

Very nice video brother. I like your style. Keep them up! I only slightly disagree. The .30-30 with its 170 grain will absolutely outperform the 7.62x39. Great video.

I have a savage 170 and marlin 336... if you put 170 grain bullet anywhere mid shoulder they usually drop...at most I've never had one go further than 30 yards...best meat gun there is for Eastern Woodlands

I’ve owned several 30-30’s from win 94’s to marlin 336’s to single shot H&R’s. Majority I’ve traded or given to kids for a first gun. Can honestly say I never felt undergunned when I was in the woods.

Back when this was written, the 30-06 was the most popular centerfire rifle in Sweden. Now it is probably the .308. The 6.5 was always debated with a strong following. It’s popularity was mainly due to cheap surplus ammo, and it’s suitabiliy as a small game rifle.

I recently asked one of my Students that grew up in the heart of Alaska what did his Family use while hunting? He said the Winchester model 94 in 30-30. He said that is always what they used to take moose. He said it never let them down. So No reason to change rifles or cartridges.
When i asked about bear protection? He said a
Glock 40 S/W. Thats all they had.
He said they looked at firearms as tools, not things to be fancied.
I found that conversation very enlightening.
    Interesting vidio! Best Wishes! M.H

I love my old Savage 170B 30-30 I've only shot cast lead in it since I've owned it. Factory jacketed bullet velocity an accuracy with cast lead is easily doable although you really don't need full house loads with cast lead to do the job on deer size game. I shoot everything for 90 gr. SWC plinker loads to 170 gr. FP at factory velocity in mine.

First USA smokeless cartridge available for civilian purchase 1895.
The Russians had the 7.62 X54 since the 1870’s by comparison and it used cordite which is far less smoky than black powder.

5:45 and that right there is what finally dethroned the 30-30! In the early 90's there was a glut of cheap 7.62x39 rifles due the end of the cold war and collapse of the combloc (Comecon). You could get SKS all day long for $75 to $100. That's what really killed off the K-mart, Sears and J.C. Penny firearms departments. They just couldn't compete with that!
