    When the pulleys have the same radius R and are separated by a distance D, the belt length is simply
    L = 2D + 2πR.
    When the pulleys have different radii r1 and r2, the length is then
    L = 2D + (r1 + r2) π + a correction term that accounts for the asymmetry.
    Note that the asymmetry causes the straight lengths to become shorter, and the sum of the circular lengths to become larger, so that the two effects offset each other, but do not cancel. Because the arc length increase is greater than the straight length decrease, the correction term will be positive.
    Now the correction term has to depend on the difference (r2 - r1) and the distance D. It must have dimensions of length, so the most likely candidate is ((r2 - r1)^2) / D, to within a constant. To a first approximation, take the constant to be 1.
    This yields a result
    L = 2D + (r1 + r2) π + ((r2 - r1)^2) / D.
    This is exactly the result obtained by Aryan, without having drawn a diagram or doing any geometry.

      Subasini Sahoo u just have to make a change at the length of perpendicular line in this open belt a perpendicular line is made inside of the circle but for cross u have to extend the line on which the perpendicular is drawn and should draw the perpendicular on the extended line

    derivation of Alpha is wrong. If you consider sin (alpha) = (r1-r2)/l means. alpha should be sin-1((r1-r2)/l). And how did you applied binomial theorem. please explain...
