I am a big fan of Robert Harris but I found Conclave a difficult book to read because I loathe the Catholic Church as much as I loathe Islam. The protagonist is weak and I find that difficult to deal with after the Roman works. Still it was an enthralling work and I hated Catholicism even more after I finished it.
Felt the same when I first picked it up, but in a way it made it more interesting. I often try and find a way to relate to chacters or themes within a book but in Conclave I never could, for once I found myself almost looking though a window (if that makes sense) like a third party viewing. Despite reading in a first person perspective I never once saw myself in any chacter.
The only reason I even read the book was because it was recommended it be since I loved Angles and Demons by Dan Brown, kinda disappointed that conclave lacked the thriller or mystery elements.
Would you recommend any other pieces of Harris's work?
(I'd recommend you read Angles and Demonds if you hate Catholics, great book)
Well.... 60 pages in.....so far I think it's boring old guff. ...
