*UPDATE 5-29-2023* Yes, singles will be available soon for the colors I noted were missing. Also, seeing listings now for this "Most Wanted" set of 2.0, which I think might be the winner like the old Mega Set for under $100.
www.thearmypai... Still no hardened leather, but workable solutions in it so I approve!

This is a quick video reviewing my thoughts on the value of the new Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Mega Set that I preordered. Hoping this can help anyone looking at upgrading or buying their first set of Speedpaints some value in making your decision. I am seeing the price drop down below the $200 preorder cost thankfully! Please toss me a like or sub if you like this content and would like stay in the loop as more comes out in the future. Thanks for everyone that has helped the channel grow so far!

You bet! Thanks for making useful tools like these for the hobby community at a price that is very reasonable!
I said 5 minutes...well..15 minutes is where I landed on. Hope this helps some of you when considering buying the new Army Painter 2.0 Mega Set. It's been an adjustment curve for me on these, but I think I'll get them sorted after some more practice with them.
So I should note, some of the classic colors I was mentioning are missing, like hardened leather, are available on the 27th of May...in the 90 color set... $379!!! WTF Army Painter. Why not include what was there in the original classic Mega Set and add on from there instead of putting these up on a high shelf the average consumer can't touch? I guess I can wait for single bottles to show up this summer and buy some individuals then to test.
I do really appreciate this review! Your DRG paint jobs have been super influential on my painting of the game. My appreciation of speed paints have changed massively because of you!
Music to my ears! Appreciate the feedback. :)
This is honestly the best review I’ve seen on these paints. Every other video I’ve watched just talks about how amazing the paint is and how they help voice their issues with the first set. No actual painting of value like you have here.
Thank you! I'm not given free product or paid to review, so I want to give an honest review before someone else goes and spends their hard earned cash on it. I am painting up some miniatures for the full "Metallic set" review as well I got at Christmas. Hopefully wrap that up in the next week or so and provide some useful feedback there as well for people.
@@hopelesshobbyaddict I would love to see a comparison of the fanatic line and the speed paint line. See what gaps each other fill. Maybe a video for another time.
I was debating the starter set of fanatic to test. I'll see how much that might set me back.
I currently slap chop and use contrast paints. I planned to switch to speed paints, and was wondering if it would be a good idea to slap chop those bottle toppers to see the effects or if that would just make it harder to see the true colors of the individual paints. Your thoughts?
I was actually going to go that route until I saw the Watch It Paint It video, and decided I could do things like the Metal painted Crystal more cleanly and consistently on each cap. If you want to see the Slap Chop variation, check out the Miniature Hobbyist link here. It didn't have that WOW effect on me, but you don't have to print anything either so it would be my second-choice verses just painting it white like I did before these caps. ua-cam.com/video/cIA6_49AUys/v-deo.html (about minute or 2 in he slap chops them).
So, my understanding is that ALL the original colors will be maintained in the 2.0 line. This Mega Set was just supposed to be their best new colors, with 5 of the original colors that tended to reactivate the most and give people problems.
They might have changed up a couple of the colors that will come with Basic Sets now, but I'm pretty sure all the old colors will be available eventually.
Yeah, I commented on my commet at the top about that. I feel like the first Mega Set had value at $99. Those original colors, I've used the whole set and happy with at least 90%. I would have like to see those colors revised to 2.0 + about 20 more colors if you are doubling the price. Probably just me though, suppose most people will be fine with the selection. Making them only available in the $379 set though just irked me a bit. I'll definitely buy up some single bottles to see if Hardened Leather is still amazing to me in 2.0 once they start dropping single bottles this summer.
@@hopelesshobbyaddict They will all be available for individual purchase, so they are not "only available in the $379 set"
@@Gamebent1 Right now though that's it though. They haven't even got singles listed on their online store yet. I'm guessing June/July though it seems like. I'm trying to be patient and wait :)
@@hopelesshobbyaddict, they will be releasing a SpeedPaint 2.0 Most Wanted Set. It is currently available for pre-order.
@@MeanderingMikesManCave thanks I was just noting that this week. Looked like a solid set, still missing my Hardened Leather preference, but for someone new looking at speed paints it seemed like a solid selection. Glad they are making some good decisions like that over at Army Painter.
I rather keep my miniatures gray than have them painted like this.
Contrast/speed paints are definitely not as good looking as traditional painted miniatures. I think I've come to terms with personal time, and having some color on the mini's more quickly, wins out as it gets the games on the table with color faster, and the kids to the table more often than plain grey.
Thank you.
Welcome!
Great review! Really helpful
Thanks. Uncharted waters in attempting something like this. Hoped it was at least semi useful! :)
One of these days I'll even remember to respond with the CORRECT youtube account for the channel. :)
I snagged the complete set from gnomish bazaar for like 270 shipped. Figured it was worth it.
Wow! Jealous. Great price.
A bit weird that the entire video you talk like those colors are completely gone, but they just aren't in the set you bought.
I've been testing them all day and I'd say the 2.0 versions of several of the original colors are better than the 1.0 versions. Grim Black, Holy White, Runic Grey, Absolution Green, Palid Bone, Purple Alchemy, Hardened Leather and Slaughter Red stand out to me side-by-side with 1.0. Oh and Crusader Skin seems way better to me now. But several of them are just a bit different in color like you said (probably because there are tons more colors now so they adjusted a bit accordingly)
Of the metallics the Aztec Gold, Glittering Gold, Hoard Bronze, Brazrn Copper and Polished Silver really stand out, but none of those are in the Mega-set.
I also found the coverage for almost all the Complete 2.0 colors just as good as 1.0, except for the pastels which are definitely thin (my guess is by design). Flow seems just as good to me as 1.0, but may be because I shook each bottle on a Vortex for a full minute or more before the first use so they are as mixed as they can be? Not sure.
I just finished painting each bottles cap with its color and overall the 2.0 seems smoother on the flat areas than 1.0, but that could also just mean I did a better job painting them, hard to say.
Only issues I've seen were Nuclear Sunrise had flakes in it like many reviewers have mention, but I also had very slight flakes in Fire Drake and Ruddy Fur too. I'll email Army painter about it in the morning.
Well, lots of info came out just in the last week too. New sets that weren't even listed on the site when I did the review. I think my main point should have been " They were "gone" from the mega set", which I think was a bit of a dirty move to put them in the set that costs twice as much if you wanted to get them early verses waiting until singles in the summer. I definitely have some room to improve on my execution of a review video though. Never really did something like that so learning from my mistakes.
Thanks for the detailed breakdown too. I'm trying to decide which single bottles to buy this summer. I have had a hell of a time getting smooth application like I did with speedpaint original. I had better luck once I added in some more medium on some colors, like the Satchel Brown,, but some of them seem to be blotchier then the originals when I tried to use them on a smooth surface like a knee pad. I did find applying super thin layers on smooth armor did better then globbing it on for better results too. Going to take some getting used to I guess, like any new paint.
Sets by definition are never good, IMHO.. There is usually too many paints in there what you will not use at all.
The first complete set that made sense to me lately in hindsight was this one www.kickstarter.com/projects/bamdungeondelvers/broken-anvil-studio-paints. Full range in set colors. I actually thought the original speed paint mega set, for $99 had very solid colors. This new set...meh.
@@hopelesshobbyaddict The main thing I love from SpeedPaint is their medium. Combined with acrylic inks you can make pretty damn good speedpaints all by yourself. Give it a go. Fiddle with some recipes.
@@manintveld_nl Love this. I just realized, thru the entire Deep Rock series I painted, I did a ton with inks/glazes but never combined the speed paint medium with ink. I'll dive into this experiment next!
@@manintveld_nl There a general ratio you'd recommend when using acrylic inks? A ballpark range would work to get me started.
@@disgustipated86 I started with 1 part ink. 3 parts medium. Depending on how color saturated your ink is, you will probably end up with 1 to 4, or 1 to 5 for a SpeedPaint flowing mix.
Stopped watching after three minutes. The music was annoying.
Fair enough. Thought I kept it way low too in this one. Sorry it offended.
