Finally! I'm still behind, but when I saw "Amongst the Stars" had appeared on UA-cam, I dropped everything, and leaped over a couple of yet-to-be-watched-reactions-to-songs, because it's _about_ time for more *Amorphis* and it's ESPECIALLY time - after a _year_ of these two-per-day-videos of yours - to *finally* have *QUEEN ANNEKE van GIERSBERGEN.* She's one of the most sought-after guest vocalists _and_ most beloved persons in the whole of Metal community. Plus, 2019 is her career's *25th* Anniversary. You _need_ to do her time in *The Gathering* (1995-2006, _final_ show in Finland, and I missed it, snif!), *Agua de Annique* (a "project" band, 2007-2011) and its contunuation under the name of *Anneke van Giersbergen* (2011-2013), her collaborations with Arjen Anthony Lucassen's *Ayreon* (recorded in 1998, 2007, 2015 and 2017) and their _shared_ band *The Gentle Storm* (2014-2016), her live collaboration with *Danny Cavanagh* of *Anathema* - WHY has _that_ band not been featured, dammit! - recorded in 2008, her collaborations with *Devin Townsend* (recorded in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2018), her _own_ band *VUUR* (All-Caps; "fire", "passion" or "drive" in Dutch, 2016-present, _first_ show in Finland, Tuska Open Air 2017, I was in the front row), _and_ preferably her guest appearances with *Napalm Death* (2006), *Moonspell* (2008), and *Anathema* (2011). Screw Within Temptation (2009) - that band is _way_ overrated and Sharon den Adel leaning towards camera, giving plenty of view of her cleavage in like, every other music video of WT, lost its appeal pretty frakkin' early. Yeah, Anneke is the greatest. *Floor* is the best, vocal-ability-wise, but _no-one_ has _that_ *magic* which Anneke's voice possesses... Hmm, maybe now that _that_ is out of my system, I watch how you react to this video ;)
Love her version of Ravenclaws with Moonspell, Live
Amen!
You can do The Gathering Live from "A noise Severe" DVD, which was recorded in Chile, my country. Strange Machines is a good choice, one of the classics.
She is my favorite singer by far. Please do The Gathering - Travel 😭🖤 Im so happy they just discovered her hahaha
"She's one of the most sought-after guest vocalists and most beloved persons in the whole of Metal community."
Absolutely!!!
"Floor is the best, vocal-ability-wise, but no-one has that magic which Anneke's voice possesses"
Moreover, she is the most versatile, talented and fruitful ARTWISE.
Amorphis - The Bee
It is awesome. This band is awesome
YES THIS! ! !
Yes
Yes please this! Would really love to hear their analysis of the lyrics.
Yes! The Bee is great,...👍 👍 👍
Definitely The Bee!!! 🤘🖤
Same guy, Tomi Joutsen. Check out The Bee for some extreme vocal versatility!
Yes, the Bee or Death of a King
Tomi is like Mikael Åkerfeldt - both guys have incredible clean vocals _and_ super-brutal growls (though Mikael went thru a couple of "weaker" years). Should they _ever_ appear together... Brr!
Daughter of Hate I'd say. best song they've made in decades IMO
Veli-Petteri Tervonen that guy is awesome man the live DVD box set from years ago is amazing
Yes! The Bee is awesome,...👍 👍 👍
I love the way Sori reacts when she hears Tomi’s growls. It’s a very emotional and beautiful song for death metal but everything Amorphis did es absolutely incredible 👽
Finns are the masters of melancholy. :)
We have so crappy weather, man! :P
Seriously, we have it in our hearts, for some reason.
@@jiilaa_with_randomness lol 😂
@@jiilaa_with_randomness Looks beautiful and bleak at the same time haha. Maybe that's why the melancholic music sounds so beautiful. Or maybe I'm just miserable haha :p
You'd be too if you were the product of thousands of years of people living in a place where there's like 4 days of sun per year xD
Fins, Aussies and Swedish people were meant to play metal.
More Amorphis!
"The Bee" should be next.
I recommend also ’The Bee’ by Amorphis
Nah, maybe some old Amorphis, My Kantele maybe
Sky is Mine is great too, the guitar work on it is incredible
I just love Sori's reaction to this song!! More Amorphis!
Anneke and Amorphis. What a combo. Love this song. The whole album was incredible.
Fucking Amorphis :) By far one of the most unique bands out there. This song rules ! The first time I heard this chorus...Man...It's so perfect ! One of the best songs on their last record, that for me was the best album of 2018, totally killer. And yeah, it's the same vocalist, he's amazing, great growls and beautiful clean vocals, and the female one is Anneke van Giersbergen, she's awesome too, her stuff with The Gathering is great
Amorphis album The Queen of Time must be the best album of 2018.
@@Honksu1986 Totally agree
That moment in the video when they are singing face to face.. it sent shivers down my spine as well! It's already musically top tier stuff and whoever arranged them in the video like that added a touch of genius to it. It's so good!
Amorphis vocalist is same for growl and for melodic singing.
I love Amorphis, and hope that y'all do more reactions to their works
Amorphis is a great band, been around a long time. Definitely check out The Bee or Death of a King.
I also love that when Sori mouths the word "wow" it coincides with the scream so it almost looks like it's her screaming. :-D
Anneke and Tomi are excellent vocalists. You’ve heard Anneke on some of Devin Townsend’s songs you’ve reacted to. She pops up on a lot of stuff. She’s done guest vocals for Devin, Novembers Doom, Giant Squid among many others. I think her main band is called Vuur at the moment.
Looking forward to *Amorphis feat. Anneke* in Tuska Open Air 2019! :) :) :)
AAAAAAAA finally more Amorphis!!!!!
Nice!!!
Amorphis is touring the US in late Sept til late Oct with Delain and Anneke Van Geirsbergen
This is true. Do *not* miss them.
Damn!
True!!! It would be a dream to watch those 2 bands in the same night
You should take a look at delain too!!
Man, Anneke is WITH them this time? I may have to change my plans and travel to see them. Last time I met them in basically a dive bar in Columbus, was so friggin' intimate, loved it.
Woah, it'll be a trip to get to their show, but I have to make it happen.
ANNEKE VAN GIERSBERGEN!!!!
The Godmother of all female metal singers!!!!!
She is amazing!
God Mother?!!!! She is a babe
Exactly.
she does what she does with her voice and even though seems pretty natural to her. That is what amazes me. in all her collaboraitons she doesn't need to show what she can do it fits perfectly fit most of the times.
Shes amazing but doro pesch is the godmother of metal singers.
This song gives me goosebumps every time! Love your reactions
Anneke is a legend! The Gathering is terrific, but she's guested in so many bands over the years. She also has her solo career, as well as Vuur and The Gentle Storm. All bands she was or is a main member of. She is one busy lady.
Definitely one of my favorite Amorphis songs. Very talented band with a guy capable of doing terrific growls and fantastic cleans.
Great pick Kai!
Tomi does both the smooth and harsh vocals. Anneke is a guest singer here. You should check out "The Bee" next. Killer vocals from Tomi on that track.
I had a feeling you would like this one 😁 I can't wait for this summers Tuska festival in Helsinki Finland (Amorphis are Finnish) where both Amorphis and Anneke will be perfoming this song live for the first time 👍
The song is about dying - compare/contrast it to the Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper", but this song adds an opposing point of view: in "Amongst the Stars" there's a bit of a point-counterpoint argument in the lyrics, on one hand or one point of view, the lyrics say to close your eyes and let life go, to follow the beacons leading to the peace of a mythical representation of death where spirits join the stars in the fields of the night sky, while on the other hand the lyrics from a different point of view negate that and respond in favor of fighting to stay alive, in favor of resisting the deceptive lure of the intoxicating peace of death.
Most of the band's lyrics are based on Finnish folklore and mythology, I would bet this one is, too. A beautiful song, in any event, and a great collaboration with the vocalist from "The Gathering" - she works well with Amorphis! The Gathering is an amazing band as well - they were really doing some beautiful, unique, and influential music after they evolved from a death metal band back in the 90s, and Anneke was a big part of that transformation, adding a great deal of charisma to the act - see her performing live with "Strange Machines":
ua-cam.com/video/1HUMwinV2AQ/v-deo.html
Anathema- Natural Disaster live Sort of Homecoming Lee Douglas female singer sings on this one Excellent voice)
Anathema- Internal Landscapes
Anathema- Dreaming Light official and
Anathema- Flying live from Bulgaria
Anathema- Untouchable live from Bulgaria
Anathema- Simple mistake live in Universal Concert
One year, no Anathema. _Way_ overdue.
yep, they don't care about Anathema. They just do Pantera, Metallica, Slipknot and Korn
Untouchable or fragile dreams need to be done
@@stuartaustin8130 Untouchable live is epic. Fragile Dreams is the name of the song. But I knew what you meant.
The Bee now....Tomi Joutsen from Amorphis great vocals
"Amorphis - The Bee" next please!
Anneke van Giersbergen is the best female voice of Metal for my taste, and the work with "The Gathering" is a must. I recommend the themes "On most surfaces", "Third chance", "Liberty bell", "My electricity", "Broken glass", "You learn about it "," Leaves "," Strange machines "...
On most Surfaces that's the song I was thinking about earlier. That's a must if they do the Gathering.
Nighttime Birds. Not the song, the album. All of it.
@@MrMortadelas Frak yeah! I'm thinking I will put in my testament that I want the 2007 2-CD 10th Anniversary version digibook buried with me :)
Liberty bell is the only song that i cant like from that album, but for me, how to measure the planet? is their best along mandylion, the song "travel" my favourite
And the song that Arjen wrote especially for her, Valley of the Queens by Ayreon.
Amorphis is Hands down my favorite band. Their songs are dipped in Finnish Folklore. Tomy’s voice is terrific. Checkout their acoustic live album. Phenomenal.
ANNEKE VAN GIERSBERGEN: She started out with The Gathering, then did her own thing with Agua De Annique, then she performed under her own name. In the meantime she has lent her vocals to everyone from Amorphis to Moonspell to Devin Townsend Project to Napalm Death.
Amorphis - Black winter day
Suggested that ages ago, but the Patreon system is *not* working - I _love_ Tool, Gojira (so, so much!), Cradle of Filth, Behemoth (oh, so much!), Megadeth, Ghost, pre-"Black Album" Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden (the Most Metal Band in the World), Rammstein, Nightwish and Guns n' Roses, but this channel is OVERSATURATED with them - it is only a slight exaggeration when I say that together, those bands form about half of the videos on this channel so far. AT THE COST OF OTHER, EQUALLY WORTHY BANDS. Is _that_ fair, huh? Huh, Vin? Sori? (I'm afraid I can't _spare_ the time to read replies, as I already put *75* minutes into writing comments here tonight! But let the discussion flow.)
The best album in their arsenal
Thank you!!!! I think these lyrics too, like so many Amorphis songs are inspired by Finnish mythology. "Path of star" could be a reference to the Milky Way (Linnunrata in Finnish, literal translation is the 'Bird's Way').
In Finnish beliefs migrating water birds are messengers of the gods that are traveling from the upper world. These birds travel between worlds via the Milky Way. Birds like geese and swans were thought to carry human souls to the otherworld. The Milky Way was seen as the heavenly version of the world river, flowing down from the upper world to the middle and lower worlds.
I think that the video is about a couple that can't take that path, they try but they can't go to afterworld.
It's from the album 'Queen of Time', which you have by the way 😉
Damn I love watching when Sori really starts to feel a song and let it carry her spirit away.
She almost cried.
Finland - the country of Metal !!
Great! You found Amorphis! Now you're ready for Bel'akor and Bal-Sagoth
And Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum Too
Yeah Amorphis 🙏🇫🇮👍
Next song Bad blood or The bee
Finland the land of metal
What an amazing song. Never listened to amorphis before. Heard of them but never sat and listened and I'd like to hear more
Devin Townsend Project - Supercrush (Addicted Live)
P.S.: Welcome to Anneke's world. She is the sunshine of all metal scene. Floor, Tarja, Sharon, Simone... They are all absolutely fantastic. But Anneke is out of the crowd. She is DIFFERENT. She is pure LIGHT. She is SMILE. She is JOY.
The Gathering - Strange Machines
Theatre Of Tragedy - Siren
My Dying Bride - Edenbeast
Paradise Lost - No Hope In Sight
Anathema - Untouchable, part 1 and 2
Elis - Der Letzte Tag
Draconian - Rivers Between Us
Morgion - Solinari (The whole album)
Yeah, Paradise Lost is also a band that is _way_ overdue on this channel, and we *need* more My Dying Bride - such and influential band, *always* the leader of the doom/death pack. _Sear Me MCMXCIII_ was *so* revolutionary and unexpected in 1993, and still the whole _Turn Loose the Swans_ album remains a milestone record - ask the fans, the critics, and most importantly, the _musicians_ who were inspired by that album.
@@GenMVeers Only can pray they do their earlier stuff
We also need some Swallow The Sun and Katatonia!
@ Swallow the Sun have grown really well too!
Finally you reacted to this. I have been waiting for this one. Thx :-) Love from Finland :)
Gonna see Amorphis live next summer!
yes i listened to her when she was in the Gathering you should check it out. they had several women singers over the years. 💚
Amorphis will be touring North America in the autumn with Delain
Tomi has the best growl in the history of never ever
cmoon! Amorphis - The Bee
Amorphis Bee, please 😍
This is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands!!! Love it!!!!!!! Saw this band in Paris in February, one of the best shows I've ever been to. Sori, I had the exact same feeling at that same part! CHILLS! lol
I love the folk element transition at 4:10. Amorphous, for me, are a combination of lnsomnium and Nightwish in terms of musical style. And I absolutely love that combination of the guttural vocals and the woman’s auto vocals. I’d never heard anything from Amorphis before, and in fact I once had the opportunity to hear a song from them but I’d stupidly rebuffed it.
I have now become a massive, massive Amorphis fan.
Within Temptation feat. Anneke Van Giersbergen - Somewhere that is such a beautiful performance, very beautiful singing! Awesome reaction
Anneke has a progressive metal band called VUUR these days. Worth checking out.
You’ve no idea how happy this reaction made me, Anneke is my favourite artist full stop, I’ve travelled half way around the world twice to see her perform. I’ve got to know her a bit, and she is the loveliest person you could ever meet, with talent beyond words! Such a unique artist with a peerless voice. Go down the rabbit hole guys, you won’t regret it.
My Dying Bride - My Wine in Silence
Great Choice!
one of the few songs i like by that band.
This has been my favorite band for about nineteen years now. They're a huge inspiration to me. One of the earliest names in melodic death metal. They've only had one bad album in nearly thirty years (Far from the Sun).
So, every album of their's is a concept album. They usually take stories from the Kalevala (Finnish national epic), but this album (Queen of Time) is more broadly about time on a large scale (rise and fall of empires, stuff like that). Best exemplified in the song "Grain of Sand" off that the same album. This song is not about romance.
I actually like Far From The Sun too haha
Amorphis - Tales from the thousand Lakes (1994) then it's blank till 2018 for me.
Haha, me too.
if you loved anneke then you must check out scorpion flower from moonspell... awesome song. awesome portuguese band with anneke on guest vocals.
Oh match made in heaven.
Amorphis and Anneke!
She is something else. Love her and love the band.
what an amazing gorgeous song - i loved the singers - the guys voice was actually gorgeous and so was the girls
Anneke Van Giersbergen also sings with Devin Townsend a lot , she did the lead vocals on the song Grace you reacted to , she is awesome on all things she sings on
The Garhering - Leaves, beautiful song
Yes!! I'm so glad you guys loved this!!
I would definitely recommend going to see them live. They're touring the states this Fall, they may come by your neck of the woods. And the guest vocalist for this song is joining them on the tour, so an added bonus!
I love Amorphis. I hope you will do more reactions to them. I was at one of their shows and they know how to put up a show.
One of my faves! thanks for doing this!
Opeth - Demon of the Fall!!
Specifically at the Red Rocks
@@Miguel-ei5qq Live at Red Rocks will get blocked/copyrighted like their Ghost of Perdition reaction. Plus album version is better IMO.
One day... One day. Haha
you did it , happy you enjoyed this masterpiece!
Amorphis - House of Sleep
OMG her voice,like a angel
Thank you very much for doing another Amorphis song!!!
-Amorphis "The Bee".
-The Gathering "Leaves".
If they did The Bee Sori would once know some facts about the song.
By the way, I’ve just recently joined this channel, and I’m impressed by the offerings: vin’s knowledge and Sori’s passion have kept me constantly glued to the reviews I’ve watched so far. Cheers mates, I’m definitely looking forward to more reviews.
This was a great song. Thanks Kai!
Oh my god you guys are awesome!
Incredible song, yeah? It’s been on my repeat for a couple months now (I’m late to the party haha)
Devin Townsend Project - Supercrush (Addicted Live)
, ft. anneke, do it!
Anneke FTW! :)
THIS
she shines in Numbered I think, but that's a good suggestion too.
@@portishphonic Yep. She's alway's been great (more then great, but i'm a fan since 1995), but the end part of 'Numbered' is out of this world.
must say, it's ABOUT TIME you got to amorphis, i forgot about the previous one apparently.
it IS same guy doing both type of vocals cleans/crowls =:D and her voice is PERFECTION!
Finally!
By far the best song in 2018.
It is about the time to you do "The bee" from Amorphis, same album...
Duuuude if Kai is a Finnish guy who lived in Portland OR about 10 years ago, he turned me onto Amorphis when I was just a young lad. Miss that dude
Silent Waters would be the next big Amorphis song to recommend, but it's way too sad.
I'd go further back and do something like Black Winter Day or My Kantele
@@Sabin41 Black Winter day is my favotite song from Amorphis
@@Sabin41 I think Vin and Sori need to be eased into that one. Give them a few more of the newer stuff and then walk them backwards so the can understand why people like old Amorphis in the first place.
For me the very best Amorphis song from the Joutsen Era is Skyforger. It functions both as myth and the feelings that an artist goes through when creating a work.
You guys are great. Love your reaction videos.
This was interesting to watch. Interesting comments on this great piece of music. The way Tomi delivers and Anneke as well is just beautiful to listen to...great piece of music. You guys seem to have a good sense of music in general...
Sori, you nailed it right away.
Check out "Valley of the Queens" live by Ayreon, featuring Anneke, Floor Jansen, and Marcela Bovio
Ooh, that's a classic (studio version recorded 1998, live _Ayreon Universe_ Blu-ray 2017)! :)
Great song!
Anneke van Giersbergen is a legend. She was for a long time the singer of the Gothic Metal Band "The Gathering." She came with the 3rd Album "Mandylion" to the Band. Over the years, let The Gathering there Metal Roots behind, and the sound changed more and more in Independet stuff. After the album "Home" she left the band and dedicated a solo project called "Agua De Anique". The Sound was very similar to the last The Gathering Outputs with her.
She is not a permanent member of Amorphis, but always has guest appearances on many metal bands, including Moonspell and the song "Scorpion Flower". Check it out...
I saw Anneke live a few times. Were all memorable concerts. She has an incredible stage presence and always gives her best.
My Favorite band of all time, together with nightwish, Savatage and Queensryche.
I love that melancolic kind of feeling in most of their songs.
Great reaction by the way.
Greetings from germany.
I’VE NEVER CLICKED SO FAST!!! I absolutely ADORE Amorphis, this song is from their latest album “Queen of Time”, Silver Bride was from the album “Skyforger”. Also Anneke is a fucking legend, my goth 12 year old me was so into The Gathering. Now, Amorphis usually sing about Finnish folklore based on the Kalevala, Amorphis have that proggy melodic death metal style and Tomi has one of the best voices in Metal, you should listen to “The Bee” and “Silent Waters”, those songs will blow you minds, especially since Vin was looking to watch or listen to some kind of sequence in songs, those two are about the same tale but from different points of views. This song you just listened is so beautiful and I had it on repeat for months while going through family issues. I love them and thank you SO SO MUCH for checking it out, i knew Sori would love it 😊
I do love this reaction...
Love your both faces when first crowl starts🤣🤣🤣
Girl, you must have a nordic heritage to react that way!!!
Cool Song very good reaction from
You Sori and Vin. 👍
Amorphis and Anneka perfect Harmony. 👏🌟🤘
wait, you havent done House of Sleep, Black Winter Day, The Golden Elk, Alone, or Day of your Beliefs? Amorphis is amazing.... if you havent done so, try Scorpion Flower from Moonspell- this also has Anneka singing on it
I Highly recommend checking out more Annneke VanGiersbergen solo and also the Gathering, Vuur, Gentle Storm, or any of the multitude of projects she is involved in. She is definitely one of the most amazing vocalist ever!
Great pick!
Also, yay! The Underground show is back. It’s been awhile
Best reaction I have ever seen.
WOW , This female vocal !!!!!!!!! Sounds EPIC
See this live in Montreal this Monday with Aneke that was outstanding 🖤🤘🏼
I agree with Lori it's an 11!!! A very beautiful song!! They have an amazing catalog and keep making great songs to this day. I'll see them live this month :)
This is off their new album, the whole album is sensational but in. My opinion daughter of hate is the best song on the album you should listen to the it's excellent
My favorite to
I'm a black metal guy but I've followed Anneke since 1996 when she was the lead singer of The Gathering. I love her voice and must say that she is one of the most beautiful persons in the whole world.
