As someone looking around for his first ever detector I have to say I really dislike the looks of this machine, it's too close to the garrett and I do t like them either I'm think I'm going for the quest x10 or the new nokta simplex

nope, seems junky. lots of non repeatable falsing. Wonder about doing a garrett ace vrs minelab vanquish vrs whites coinmaster vrs nokta simplex vrs cscope 440 test, seem the same. Just choose your preferred place of manufacture.
@Blood angel Many people seem to forget all the silver, jewelry & relics they have found with their previous machine. The one they're swinging now is God's gift to metal detectorists & they're hooked up with a supplier. I have 3 machines & they all have found these things. The truth is it comes down to research & location. If it ain't in the ground it won't find it's way in your finds pouch.
Well. I am impressed and not impressed . The colour , whether its a starter model or not should have been black. It just looks better . In the video you checked out the 340 , it should have been the 540 so people here wouldn't have said cheap and cheerful. Which frequencies does it run on ? That might matter on the wet salt . Does it have better target i.d. numbers separation than the Nox? The Nox on many beaches is a pain for that amongst trash and digging every target is impossible sometimes on many trashy beaches . I prefer the target i.d. of the Terra 705 , but thats an old machine now and the Vanquish is coming to replace that . 1/8 inch socket ! Thats a big mistake . It needs to be the 1/4 inch socket , i like using Gray Ghosts . They are by far the best headphones for Minelab machines . Low latency headphones are low toned and muffled sound quality . Listen to the machine without headphones then listen with the Koss or Nox or some others on . Then listen to the Ghost's . The sound you get with not phones on is the sound you get with Ghost NDT's on . Good choice of coils , 2 in the Pro pack should be a good deal . The stem , prefer straight but at least the cam locks look good . On the whole if it works well on the salt wet ? That will make it harder for people to be bothered with buying a higher end machine if the lower end model work well enough. And will mean a lot more competition for the limited finds there are out there . It will sell well , but there are an awful lot of machines out there and a limited market . I will have to see the 540 before i make a final decision , but i am not confident its for me. There are other machines out there that i am thinking about , it doesn't have to be multi frequency . Just has to do the job . I have the E.Trac , Equinox and ORX .
it looks terrible in that crap red colour,,,and wheres the test bed results,,how deep will it find the hammered,or anything else for that matter,,,nice disco though ?

I was working all weekend so only detected for a couple of hours.. it is more than capable.. knocks a deus out of the field 😀

Yes about 6 hours sleep over 3 days derek mate glad that one is only once a year mate.. 1 more next week and that should be it till next year..
There were about 4 colour reds on it derek as he final shade hasn’t been decided yet

I see ML made one that even I can operate, the Vanquish. I may trade my 800 that I can't use for the Vanquish.
1 button controls 1 thing there are no hidden menus and it will even have US dollar signs for coins 😀
