Just what I wanted to know, if the steel block needs to be close to the size of the rubber block. Your demonstration showed that I can use my 3x3 steel on my 4x4 rubber block. TFS!

Can it be use as a hard surface for rock chiseling? I just bought one online to be use as a surface to aid in breaking my geodes.

NO!!! Use any flat piece of iron or stone for that. This is a precision piece made of tempered steel and will be marred by chisels and stone chips. This is a diamond. You want a pebble.

The last bench block you mentioned, with the steel/nylon interchangeable surfaces actually can up on an armorer's block website. For that use is mainly for tapping retaining pins though. I doesn't appear to viewing your video, but I figured no harm in asking. Does it have an pre-drilled holes?
    Thanks, Mike

How is a bench block different from an anvil?

Google both and find out. You have 3 options:
      Bench block
      Anvil
      Bench Pin block.
