Have limited space so what I do is wrap the vine loosely around the mound. I live in Arkansas some time we get scorchers +100f. So to help the plant I take my big shop fan and blow air over the vines it's not fool proof but helps.

You just helped me a lot. My one plant has a load of dried up dead flowers and a bunch of stems missing their flowers. I worried it was because of the 95°+ temp days with extremely high humidity. My other plant had already started to set fruit before the 4 days of tempts fro, hell. So it's still doing well. My question is..Will the plants set new flowers?

This tip applies to all watermelons if you want a sweet watermelon every time you have to wait till it actually gets her really ripe if you pick it when it's green and you think it's ripe nope it's great with a watermelon you have to wait until you see the sugars coming out of the watermelon and how you observe that is that you see something called lacing on the outside of your watermelon which looks like a whole bunch of ugly squiggly lines like spider webs all over the watermelon another words wait till your watermelon looks ugly when it's starting to look like it's got all these weird ugly lines on it that means that watermelon is nice and ripe and sweet sweet as it's going to be so if you can wait that long try that don't wait till the stem is turning yellow or brown no let that watermelon stay on that vine until the sugar start exploding out of the watermelon lines called lacing and it's true it should have a yellow spot on the bottom of your watermelon I know I grow watermelons for a living just try it you'll like it enjoy.

Extension service (Virginia) has gemination soil temp at 90 degrees for watermelon. And 120 days to harvest. What do you think? Otherwise full agreement 😊

I’m located in Central Florida and I’m able to start germinating in the middle of February, and my soil temperature is not 90 degrees in Florida at that time. Watermelons produce best before air temperatures reach 90 degrees. I wonder if that’s what UVA is stating? (My information is derived from personal experience and the University of Florida which is our AG School.) Thanks for sharing, I’m interest in what UVA has to say. Down here in Florida, the plant doesn’t produce the flower, to pollinate the fruit once we reach that temperature. Plus, our rainy season starts in late May, which also influences our production. So, we must plant early. Happy Growing!!!

I have a watermelon plant this year and we are zone 9. We live in Sacramento. I have a ton of baby watermelons growing on every vine and some we can’t even see. Should I take some of them off?

So are the sticks for like a cradle for the watermelons as they grow? First time growing fruits and veggies and i was told i should put hay under them or something but sticks seems easier for me to get in my yard haha so im thinking im going to start gathering if thats what you are using them for.

Do you have to seed them every season? If yes , is there any kind of watermelon which grows over and over again , like strawberies , without having to seed them again?

Good evening, I have been growing a watermelon plant in my backyard and have ran into an issue. I planted it about 2 months ago and the plant has grown non-stop. The last couple of days I noticed that where the stems are coming out of the soil are starting to turn brown and thin out. Leaves are starting to dry up and die off. The rest of the plant is still very green and growing. What could be the cuae of this? I have not had my soul tested. I am a beginner in gardening so I'm sure I'm making some mistakes here. Thanks in advance.

Soil Soil Soil!!!! Watermelons are heavy feeders so once they start growing you definitely need another application of fertilizer. If you don't see any flowers or fruit productions. Switch to a fertilizer with more phosphorus and potassium. Sorry for the late reply. Hope it's not too late.
