  • This series of videos documents my building of the Round 2 MPC 22" Eagle Test Shot from Space:1999. I won this kit at a contest at the end of August and received it in mid-September. The production kit is now on its way to hobby shops and mail order customers as I type this.
In Part 4, the majority of the kit assembly is done. Work is a little slow due to the number of join seams that need cleaning up on the cage and spine, but pretty much everything is now together. I discuss my method for attaching the pod to the Eagle (using 2-56 x 1/2" screws and nylon lock nuts) and using 4.6mm styrene standoffs inside the leg pods to make up for the lack of suspension springs in my kit and get the foot pads to sit right when the model is on display.

Mr. Chladek-Thanks again for your videos. I received my kit yesterday and I am really looking forward to beginning this build. You mentioned in your video (17:45) that you will be using Alclad for the engine bells. I am very interested in your recommended technique for achieving authentic metal bells. I have been considering starting with gloss black & gloss gray then finishing with Alclad II in either ALC-119 Aircraft Aluminum or or ALC-115 Stainless Steel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Again thank you for the video series.

My plan for the bells is to base coat the bells in Tamiya gloss black spray, because it dries quicker and more rock hard than enamels. I will have to check and see which specific Alclad shade I have, but I believe it is Polished Aluminium. I have the first primer coat on and still need to do some surface prep to them, but I am very close to the Alclad stage.

+JMChladek - Tamiya is also my go-to brand for glossy. I look forward to seeing your Alclad finish and your continuing series on the Test Shot as well as your production kit. Thanks again for the videos and tips Mr. Chladek.
