I live in Ujamaa, the African-American house on campus and I have a triple dorm room. I love it!

I’m nowhere near college but yet I already have my life planned out...I feel like I can’t back up what I say so I’m afraid to say anything at all. All I know is that I want to help my family and become someone who’s in the medical category like my sister

My dream school is Stanford and I’m stressing because I know I won’t make it in and I’m going into freshman year
Don’t be discouraged! Have faith and ask God (If you believe in him) to help you make it to your dream school! Also, you’re starting your freshman year. It’s scary, I know, but focus on earning good grades because it really sets the tone for how high your gpa can be. Be organized, use a planner, and utilize any tutoring services your school offers! Look into scholarships, and connect with your guidance counselor! Also, make sure to join clubs and volunteer outside of school

How would you say the atmosphere is like? Is it difficult to fit in if you’re not pretentious/elitist?
No not at all! I guess it depends on who you surround yourself with, but I've met all sorts of people from different backgrounds and everyone has been really down to earth :) it's a great atmosphere, everyone's very nice and helpful.

Why is the black community separated from the rest? Did you choose to live there or is it obligatory ?
It’s not separated! There are multiple cultural houses that consist of 50% of one ethnicity/race and 50% of others. For example, Ujamaa is made up 50% of black students and 50% white, asian, latinx, etc. students. You apply to live in each of these :) So it’s completely your choice!
