    What if planets orbited each other from smallest to largest succession (So Mercury orbits Mars, which orbits Venus, which orbits Earth, and so on)

    • @5C2WMedia
      @5C2WMedia 8 років тому +17

      Alex Siemers that wouldn't work

    • @Chipperdude
      @Chipperdude 8 років тому +27

      The Legend 566 no but you can set up the orbits and watch everything spin into chaos

    • @maximalgamingnl9954
      @maximalgamingnl9954 8 років тому +6

      The Legend 566 i think it would, but then the planets would no longer be considered planets but moons, well, exept for jupiter

    • @Racingfanforlife18

      Alex Siemers yes that would be cool

    • @FunnCubes
      @FunnCubes 8 років тому +28

      basically what would happen is that orbital mechanics would show you the finger and everything would fall into jupiter.

  • @Healitnow
    @Healitnow 8 років тому +192

    Instead of concentrating on the orbital part, how about using your simulator to go planet by planet and give us the planets surface temperature and conditions, showing us the changes each planet would undergo in the process of moving from their current locations to permanent members of the Goldilocks zone. In short forget orbits and do climatology.

    The Goldilocks zone is where water can remain in a liquid state. That zone can vary depending upon the star energy output.

    1.) Mercury

    3.) Earth
    4.) Mars
    5.) Jupiter
    6.) Saturn
    7.) Uranus
    8.) Neptune
    _"5 is the magic number."_ , said someone I don't remember the name of.
    with _"5 is the magic number."_ , it's ment that if you were to place whatever amount of planets or other planetary objects in a habitable zone of a star, if you wait long enough, aventually it will end up being 5, and staying 5.

    • @Kana-vx2ec
      @Kana-vx2ec 7 років тому +5

      He pronounced it properly, only young children obnoxiously pronounce it as, "Your-anus."
      It's pronounced, ur-unus.

    • @amyblackwood6749
      @amyblackwood6749 7 років тому +3

      "Your-anus" is the correct pronunciation. Scientists started miss pronouncing because of the childish snickering. I remember that from The Sky at Night, I think it was.

    • @Kana-vx2ec
      @Kana-vx2ec 7 років тому +2

      +Amy Blackwood Uhh, no, you're wrong. His pronunciation is the one used by academics and professional astronomers all over the world. I went through the first two pages of Google trying to prove you right, but I couldn't.

    • @amyblackwood6749
      @amyblackwood6749 7 років тому +1

      "It turns out that both pronunciations are correct. The classic, potty-mouth version (specifically ū·rā′·nəs) places the emphasis on the long "A" sound, is what leads to raised eyebrows, giggling and outright laughter. This is the pronunciation that most planetarium lecturers, for example, don't even want to talk about in front of an audience. Which is probably why kids still ask about it and adults still snicker when they hear it."
      Like I say, the potty way is correct. The other way has become correct through constant usage.

    • @Kana-vx2ec
      @Kana-vx2ec 7 років тому

    Well this did teach us that the planets being where they are keeps things in balance. The thing is though if the planets had all formed in the Goldie Locks zone, I should think they'd have turned out rather different than what we see in this video. The game just keeps all current conditions when you moved them. I still enjoyed the fun none-the-less!

    The game is very buggy.. I put a 2nd earth into Mars orbit, and moved mars further along in it's orbit and no matter what I did, I couldn't get Earth to be warm. I even tried 100 atm and nothing would work. Yet you add half of an atm to Mars and it warms up really fast. Makes no sense. Also, if you enable climate on mars, you have the same problem. Nothing you do, will warm it up. You get a runaway Ice Age.

    • @Shenanigames
      @Shenanigames  8 років тому +1

      +gnexus01 what was the greenhouse effect degree ??? I just finished a video on Terraforming Mars and I got it stable. It should be up soon

    • @gnexus01
      @gnexus01 8 років тому

      Greenhouse effect kept going down itself. I just tried again, with 5 atm. The Earth was going into a runaway ice age. I would like to see if someone could teraform Mars with Climate enabled. I have yet to pull it off.

    • @portalenthusiast823
      @portalenthusiast823 7 років тому +2

      gnexus01 you must increase its magnetic field.

    • @gnexus01
      @gnexus01 7 років тому +1

      I don't see how that would effect anything. That only deflects solar wind. Mars is further from the sun, so shouldn't the solar wind be less powerfull. Regradless, I tried it anyway and increased the magnetic field by a factor of 3 and gave it a 3.5 atm and it still keep going into a runaway Ice Age.
      Also, giving earth 3.5 atm in it's normal orbit has zero effect on the climate.

    • @portalenthusiast823
      @portalenthusiast823 7 років тому +6

      Increasing its magnetic field would help protect it from the solar wind yes, and yes it is less powerfull that it by earth's orbit, but it is predicted that mars lost its atmosphere in the first place because it was torn away by solar winds by the new fully functioning sun.

    There are five Lagrange points where objects can orbit the sun in essentially the sane orbit. I am not sure it would work with planet sized bodies. We have satellites parked at L1, (DSCOVR, and SOHO) and Jupiter has hundreds of Trojan asteroids at its L2 and L3 points. Saturn's Dionne and Dionne B moons are in the same orbit. The "B" object is at either L2 or L3.

    An idea for a future video, flip the Solar System. Put Pluto where Mercury is, Neptune where Venus is, Uranus where Earth is, Saturn where Mars is, and so on. Obviously, going on that, Jupiter would be left alone. So maybe you could just leave Pluto out. Whichever way you do it, would be interesting to see what would happen. Also, make it to where the moon's stay put, just the planets change place.

    With out watching, I predict that if you put all eight planets in the Goldilocks zone they would all crash in to each other because of their gravitational pull

    @dr.m.p.floydjr7446 8 років тому

    ... no, you should have placed the planets based upon their original alignment within the goldilocks zone - Minus the Gas Giants whose gravity will be enough to take over the original inner planets. Your example proved that. So do the inner planets within the zone, based upon their original alignments. Then see what would happen.

    If every planet was in the Goldilocks zone, pretty much every planet would be habitable (I hadn't seen the full video I'll edit this again later)
