The hard part is waiting to be found and wondering how long it will take to get you out. I was thinking i would be in there for hours, Maybe even overnight. I thought i was going to die!!! When my elevator stopped it stopped on a level that that no one is on and they dont use for anything, it is jsut an empty level. Fuark. Poor girl she was.

Have you ever heard about emergency phone inside the elevator? It's actually not allowed for building to run an elevator unless it has a working connection
She was lucky to have not gotten a shock when putting her hands back into the dark void behind the area where the door recedes, especially after shifting that door out of its proper alignment. I know they would have been insulated and strong, but you never know what may become exposed after breaking something.
All that would be exposed is the outer door mechanism so nothing dangerous but if the door safety circuit detects that the door is open it will not move at all

Huge over reaction. She was stuck in there for no more than 15 minutes considering the video was sped up to x1.25 speed. A normal person would have just pressed the emergency button or called 911, and then waited. They police have to come eventually to fix the elevator. Kicking the door in won't do a damn thing when you're in the elevator shaft, it might just make the doors less likely to function. She's lucky the doors didn't open while she was butt bumping it or she would've fallen to her death. In situations like this, think ahead. Panicking always makes the situation worse, never better.

If you want to find out about your anxiety of being stuck in an elevator... simply ride alone.. but don't select a floor yet. Just go inside and do nothing. Then the doors will close automatically. Once done, don't select a floor. ...you will be "stuck".... the longer you last, the better.

i was stuck in one a while ago... it stopped in-between the 1st and 2nd floor i was scared but i just stayed there and clicked the alarm button and shouted for help... eventually the electrition came and opened the doors and i had to jump from the middle of the floor.... i wouldn't panic like her unless it was like more than 1 hour.

Got stuck on an elevator last Friday at work. I was stuck for an hour and instead of panicking, kicking the doors and screaming for help, I called FD and played a game on my phone. Ok, maybe If I was stuck in the elevator for more than an hour I could've freaked out.
If you were payed for that hour id say it was a good deal.

This must be the worse attempt to exit a broken down elevator I have ever seen.

If you want to find out about your anxiety of being stuck in an elevator... simply ride alone.. but don't select a floor yet. Just go inside and do nothing. Then the doors will close automatically. Once done, don't select a floor.
...you will be "stuck".... the longer you last, the better.

Ishannabella MSP She did hit the emergency button. Regardless, the emergency button is rarely responded to in a timely manner and you usually get no cell phone service in an elevator. She's lucky that the elevator broke down where it was level with a floor instead of in-between 2 floors.
Josh Case Years ago, I lived in an apt. building in which the elevator was always getting stuck (I didn't feel safe taking the stairs, esp. in that building). I learned, from watching the maintenance man, how to open the door and escape when it got stuck -- and it always seemed to get stuck between floors and that freaked out men and women, alike. I remember one morning when I was all dressed up and going to work; the elevator got stuck in-between floors on my way down, but that didn't stop me from escaping within 3 minutes. Imagine the surprise of the people who were in the lobby when they saw me pull the elevator doors open and hop out and down, spike heels and all, land on my feet, call out a cheery good morning and be on my way. Good times - ah, youth!

It is best to wait in these situations unless you are in critical condition and are in dire need of medical attention. Not all elevators are the same and it all depends on where it gets stuck. If it gets stuck in-between two floors it is really difficult and dangerous to try to escape without assistance because the elevator can begin to move again randomly at any time during the process which can crush you to death.

That girl takes the word "Stupid" and puts it on steroids. The #1 way to stay stuck on an elevator is to panic and kick the door that way. I hope they caught up with her after reviewing the security cam footage and made her pay for the extra damages she caused
While I don't condone kicking elevator doors, it's possible this girl is less of an idiot and perhaps someone who experiences claustrophobia.

Peter Carlson Hmm--that's a rather stupid requirement. However, we can't know for sure whether or not this elevator was equipped with a locking mechanism. I understand the sheer panic felt, but she should have tried to open 'em up.

It's been 14 years ago that she got stuck in the elevator from 2008
i was stuck in one a while ago... it stopped in-between the 1st and 2nd floor i was scared but i just stayed there and clicked the alarm button and shouted for help... eventually the electrition came and opened the doors and i had to jump from the middle of the floor.... i wouldn't panic like her unless it was like more than 1 hour.

The maintenance man found the problem right away. The door was only off the slide rail, it's good to go.
