Hope you all enjoyed the series! Sorry that this video was a bit more rough than the last one. Anyway, I’m putting this narrative on pause for now, but I will continue making Ethiopian History content alongside videos about other parts of Africa.
This series is so amazing and seriously underrated. I've done my absolute best trying to evangelize East African history to my friends, but there are still criminally few people in the West who even know Menelik II by name. It's such an interesting period of history, and you went above and beyond in doing justice to the subject matter
Excellent job. I have enjoyed the whole series of videos for their content and quality. I am shocked at how little I know of my countries History. Thank you and keep them coming.
That’s how it goes. I hope Ethiopia, and other countries in Africa, will begin to teach more of this stuff in their schools. I also hope that diasporans can learn a bit about their history before arriving in the americas...
Thanks for the informative and well edited video. This video was a long time coming for me. I like the little touch of animations and theme songs, reminds me of a Kings and generals video. Keep up the good work friend 👍
Yowhannes’s death was a curse to us tigrayans in Eritrea and Ethiopia. It broke our back and made us beggars of Italians in Eritrea and beggars of amhara in Ethiopia.
If only Ethiopia allied with the Mahadist they could have both defeated the British and Italian colonial power and ventured off to conquer Egypt. But that's why everything happens for a reason, we wouldn't have this history if events like these didn't occur
@Anonymoustigrinya Eritreans love yohannes I would know I am eritrean. You see you do what u can to conquer he outsmarted his rivals in his early life. U can't blame him for lieing if so u can't like any world leader especially habesha ones. I mean the royal family only card is line to Solomon without any evidence

Really well detailed. As a Sudanese, I am shocked at how little I know about all these Ethiopian - Sudanese conflicts. Even in our history we mostly focus on the Mahdis and the English fights, with very little about Ethiopia (except for the battle of Gondar) Best of luck and I am hoping for further regional videos. 🇸🇩🇪🇹
Thank you! One of my main ambitions is to shift the framework of how we look at African histories, since I think that we focus too heavily on European aspects even when the history is told from "African" perspectives.

Am an Ethiopian I like the way u presented this history but am gonna add a few things here...Yohannes wasn’t shot by the mehandists he was actually shot by one of meneliks’s men afraid he would come after him after he delt with the mehandists... after he had successfully accomplished that all menelik had to do was make a deal with the Italians and give them half of the Tigray province ie mereb Melash, if they can take it by force as a strategy to weaken the tigrean rulers and claim the throne for himself so the Italians occupied Asmara and thus weakened Ras Alula and the new heir making menelik the new king of Ethiopia. please🙏 reply If u can men

@@chuasmare22 Gonder is Adey Yohannes, just because Neftanyas expanded and re-populated it like Magots, it will never make it yours, even Gonderian Emperor's were not Neftanyas.
So the Sudanese were unable to conquer any Ethiopian land, they sacked Gondar and then a few years later Menelik II conquered Sudanese land 😂 if that doesn't tell you enough about how Ethiopia at the end of the day stays on top I don't know what will!
Menelik never conquer any land, almatama and benishangul were given to him by English, no war after galabat between Mahdia and Abyssinian, mahadist intention wasn't land cause no real land in Abyssinia why fight for rocks ? Khalifa was angry with Abyssinian because they helped his Egyptian enemy
Thankyou for your job. But professionally you must specifie Birth location & geography location of the heros. Coz Tigrayans history is being hidden. And you have responsibility to clarify. If you able do also on Axum Empire Civilization, Islamic missionaries in Tigray and others.
This is a _series_ on political history, ie there are multiple episodes. I'm not going to say "Yohannes, who was born in Tigray region" in every episode nor will I every time I bring him up... This would feel solely like it's being done to appeal some nationalist or regionalist sentiment related to current politics, and I'm not interested in doing that. People know Yohannes was a northerner, I consistently say that Yohannes had his political base in the north, and the narrative follows part of his rise to power where it's specifically stated that he started in the north. I've laid out the facts in order, then. However, at the time of this episode's events, Yohannes was, at least theoretically Emperor over all Ethiopia (insofar as the political boundaries of the empire at that time), so obviously I'm going to talk about him in the capacity of other regions aswell. He rules those territories.
@@hiddenhist Iam telling you coz 80% or more poletical issues are based in tigray. Behind this thier is sovernity and morality.
