  • Merry Christmas Everyone! Second time is the charm right? After discovering an issue with my video yesterday, here is the fixed product. Which is my Christmas video for 2023. I hope all of you are enjoying Holiday Specials, drinking Hot Chocolate, opening presents and having a Happy Holidays with your family!
    On December 16th & 17th, I would trek out to Owosso, Michigan for the first time in 2 years to chase the Real Polar Express the Pere Marquette #1225. In 2022, the wheels and running gear would be shipped off to FMW Solutions for a complete overhaul and rebuild of the running gear. The work took more than a year, and in 2023 it would return to lead her signature excursion, the North Pole Express from November to December. Sounding much better than in years past the 1225 put on a fantastic show as it raced across the field of Michigan, from Owosso to Ashley and back. I was lucky enough to be able to chase both morning runs and got various shots on its trek to Ashley. The lighting worked in my favor. There was an issue with 1225 on the 16th, and she would lead back tender first to Owosso after being uncoupled from the train, and GLC 383 would lead the Saturday night train. While not confirmed by the Steam Railroading Institute, there have been various rumors floating around the internet. However, it was back on the train Sunday morning. The diesel leading the train back to Owosso was PRLX 57, a GP40WH-2.

    I yet again chased with my good friend ‪@DroppedSignal‬ I also ran into ‪@ATrain4014‬and his crew again.
    The Pere Marquette #1225 is an N-1 2-8-4, Berkshire Type Steam Locomotive built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1941. It would operate for the Pere Marquette & Chesapeake & Ohio Railway until 1951. It was then donated to Michigan State University, in East Lansing, Michigan. It is here where Chris Van Allsburg, author of The Polar express would see the Locomotive as a kid. Starting in the early 70s, the locomotive would under go a restoration to operation, which would be completed in the 80s. In the early 2000s Warner Brothers would contact the Steam Railroading Institute to get the Blueprints, and record Audio of the 1225 to be used in the Movie the Polar Express. Today the 1225 operates under the Institute on Great Lakes Central Railroad.

    'Wonderful Video Shots - It is so good to see that just a few good long train ride STEAM (real trains) still exist today. Keep up the Good Work. MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a great new train filled new year!
