  • These are my first impressions of the K&M 210/9, DR Pro Boom Stand, and the Tama MS205. They are all 3 great boom stands but there is one that I find to be a step above the others!

    I have the tall, vocal mic/boom DR Pro mic stand. It is easily 12-14 years old and has held up extremely well. I've seen so many cheap mic stands fail, and believe this brand of stands are well worth the extra cost. I have not had any issues whatsoever, and just ordered a short one for a kick drum. I haven't used the K&M, but it looks like good quality. I don't regret buying the DR Pro version. Don't skimp on cheap mic stands that will wear out prematurely.

    Nice review with some important info however a few things I would include are… firstly one of the most important things about a mic stand is the reliability of the adjustment mechanisms, the DR Pro stands are great in a studio setting but the plastic tighteners are notorious for breaking / wearing out in a road situation and as you mentioned no parts are available.
    Secondly that $69 Tama stand is their lowest price point boom stand and it lacks features but the Tama Ironworks mic stands are absolutely equal to the others. The Ironworks stands are made from solid steel rods, the height adjustment mechanism design is superior to almost anything else available and of course they have a telescoping boom. Tama has been building some of the best drums / hardware for many years so they know about stands. Much like the K&M, these are potentially lifetime tools when cared for.
    And yes, K&M are hands down worth the price for any application but the Atlas Sound stands are well worth a look as they’re easily equal to K&M in both build, reliability and cost.
    Still, a great look at these three stands, thanks!

      Thanks for the info! The Ironwork stand looks really nice! Good to know about the DR Pro. They work well for what I do but I have not used them for heavy live usage. The Atlas look really nice and most of them seem to be a step up in price! I did see one for $100 so that might be comparable. Thanks for the additional information!

    I have trouble with the tighteners on the DR Pro's. The bolt cracks the handle from stress. I end up with real bolts and nuts, and its a bit of a hassle. I wonder, if they are GC's store brand, the part may hold a guarantee?

    Hello. I used for years a TAMA ms205 chrome and did not have any plastic pieces. Maybe made in the year 2000 or so. Perhaps this new production in china of the ms205 they lower costs and used plastic in that piece you are showing. Too bad, it's one of the best mic stand I've ever used, not counting heavy studio mic stand.

      Maybe the piece that you think is plastic is cast iron?

      They must have changed it over time! It is still a really good mic stand, I just prefer the other two!

    hello, are they suitable for condenser microphones?, I have a Rode NT2-A and I already broke a stand because of the weight, now I don't know which one to buy. what do you recomend me?

    • @DanielMcLendonMusic
      @DanielMcLendonMusic  2 роки тому +3

      Absolutely! Any of these stands would be more than capable to hold that microphone! K&m is best, next I would pick the Dr pro.

    I’d love to know how these mic stands have stood up since the filming of this video. I just ordered a Tama MS 455 and heard nothing but great things about that model , it’s pricey also!

      @@DanielMcLendonMusic Thanks for the reply, just one more question , have you used these stands in live situation or studio setting .. I got the Tama MS455 ironworks series for live gigging. Feels super sturdy / solid! So I will see how it holds up over time , as I just got the stand this week.

    Which one of them is good for Music production? Like which one of them can hold an isolation shield and a Mic, sir?

    • @DanielMcLendonMusic
      @DanielMcLendonMusic  3 роки тому +1

      I would go with the k&m or the Dr pro. Both of those should easily be able to hold an isolation shield and mic. I slightly prefer the k&m but it is also more expensive.

    I have heard, altho' not 100% sure, that D R Pro mic stands are actually made by K&M for Guitar Center exclusively.

    Problem with K&M is sometimes that the height-change mechanic is made from plastic. Outside and inside. So it might break at some point.
    Best with K&M are (most stands) the Screws. They usually are well build and don't lose their crip after a few gigs. ^^

      Most K&M mic stands I’ve used were always wobbly.
      I’ve got a Chrome Tama and have honestly never looked at any other mic stands since.
