I dont understand the language but I listen every week for the last two years, can't get enough of it. i guess that is kind of art. singer is sadly gone but his song stays forever.
He's not talking about a girl. He's talking about a country. The moon and star are the flag of the state. The writer Ötkür wrote a poem like love poems because murderer China banned to write national poems to Uighur Turks.

Hi Sabine I found your channel just as I'm getting back into my Uyghur learning for 2020! Even though this poem features word endings that are more formal or archaic, it still has a simple structure and is therefore great for beginners. Of course, Maestro Héyit's incredible melody and dutar playing makes it even more of a joy to learn!

One minor issue; I think, at the end, when he asks "what is Otkur?" and she answers "gulum", by "gul" she means servant/slave (and not hand). And it makes more sense when he then asks if you're willing to sell (the servant) and she says no.
Yes that's correct, and I used "hand" because it can mean a worker/laborer/someone who assists and it also plays on the fact that "qol" (hand) and "qul" (servant/slave) sound very similar in Uyghur... I guess the connotations are a bit different though! Perhaps I'll make a note of it

As Naser pointed out the following starts with "Are you willing to sell him?" (Didim satar musan?), which is for a slave. Kul/Qul is not just a slave though, it is more someone who volunteered to serve like a slave. Also in modern Turkey Turkish "kol" (qol) means arm, not hand. "el" means hand. I doubt it would be much different in Uyghur Turkish.

You will find some of the verses are word by word are same. The last 4 verses from Erzurum'lu Emrah, which use "kul" (servant/slave):
