They are very expensive, but if they keep food fresher longer, for a lifespan an order of magnitude above routine appliances, the benefits add up in subtle ways.

is it worth spending $10,000 on a refrigerator? I'm saving up for the Subzero Pro 48, so it would be worth $20,000 if I can convince my wife and start the renovation on my kitchen. No, I'm not rich, but I do want a high end kitchen. I also want a cooktop with a double griddle, double oven, built in coffee maker and built in microwave. I do have a 42" Wolf grill, a side burner, multi cooker, blender, and Cove dishwasher. I love all of them. Best appliances ever!

From a cost perspective, even if SubZeros are more reliable and repairable, the higher cost compared to normal refrigerators means that most people could buy multiple new regular refrigerators for the cost of one SubZero. So then it comes down to whether people would pay thousands of dollars more for performance compared to regular refrigerators. In my case, I decided that I would be content going with regular refrigerators.

It also depends on your specific real estate market like where I am you won’t see any homes over $2m without subzero and wolf appliances and even in $1-1.5m newer condos and townhomes. Then for example for homes over $6m we expect like a French range rather then a Wolf one

Buying multiple refrigerators just adds to environmental waste. In my opinion that is more damaging than having to maintain one single unit over a long period of time.

Is it worth spending $10,000 or more on a refrigerator? The obvious answer is it all depends on how rich you are. For most people the answer is no.
