This is an awesome set. Would have loved to get this. Unfortunately, buying sets from the bricklink designer program is not open to all countries. Anyway, it is what it is. We just have to keep MOC’ing to expand our lego town and cities 😊
Lego is trying to make money, and as someone who works in retail these k pop bands, especially bts, their cds outsells anything else probably by 10 to 1, if they price that set cheap enough I could see it easily selling as well as the central perk set.
Thanks for the review Alex. I just went and bought a set from eBay America because I need this set haha 😁 I love the way it opens up and will go with my Mediaeval Blacksmith set. Hopefully Lego will do a big Castle set for the 90th celebration like you said. Now I cannot buy any more for a while but can't wait for it to arrive next month 🏰
Not that I’m envious, :) that’s an awesome set! I hope Lego listened to what you said. I agree with your comments that Lego should better think through which sets they choose. Thanks for speaking up.
I think its less about “hurt feelings” and more about reenforcing the concept and buying model. By ensuring people know these sets are limited, they can increase demand for the pre-sales. This should ultimately allow them to produce more sets of very limited broad appeal, all the while giving them data to support larger launches of similar products. They know the castle was a success now, and they can go make a bigger one for the larger masses while still serving their fervent hardcore base with small sets in the future. And for instance, I really want the A Team van, but that would die a death on retail shelves. They could realistically release that under this new model, while not taking up inventory space or retail shelving space, or even requiring the marketing that a full normal lego set requires. Yes, there will be some collectors that will miss out or have to pay a premium on resellers sites, but that’s the way the collecting market is going and that’s the business right now. This model allows the greatest opportunity to serve both the masses and the hardcore base. As far as BTS goes, this is a massive win for Lego. BTS is at this point beyond a typical boy band and has moved into leading a cultural phenomenon. Almost every single person I know listens to some sort of Kpop, Korean cinema is seeing a massive boom thanks to the success of Parasite, and almost every woman I know is gorging themselves on K-dramas on Netflix and Amazon. I don’t know how well spread Lego is in the Korean market, but scoring BTS allows them to make a big splash if they’re not there already, and I would think the idea is that some of the buyers will end being serious Lego fans. And it goes beyond age as well, as my friend’s 85 year old grandmother is a massive BTS and fan and buys everything she can get her hands on, and I would believe she’ll buy this as well. I would go as far as to say the BTS set is one of the most important sets for potential growth of an audience that Lego has put out in years. TLDR; crowd funded is the future of collecting and Korean stuff is the world wide growth market of the next decade.
This is a great set, and LEGO is indeed having issues keeping up with demand. As much as it sucks that some of us missed out on this set, it would be better for LEGO to not fall behind on supplying us with official sets. There's a $350 Castle set coming out in August. I doubt that set will have the charm of this one, but it would be a disaster if LEGO could not meet the demand for the $350 Castle set. Mark my words... it will outsell the UCS Millennium Falcon. As for BTS, they have more fans in numbers than LEGO does. The BTS army is far-reaching. Do not underestimate the size of the BTS army; it's in the billions. As for the extra Castle in the Forest set, some people never got theirs. They were "lost." The set you got is likely one of the lost sets.
I mean, the Lion King’s Castle is less than half the price of the UCS Millennium Falcon, so it’s not /that/ much of a stretch to predict it will sell more. Depending on what it looks like, the part count, etc., of course.
Promobricks leaked that the 90th Anniversary set is going to be The Lion King’s Castle (10305) for $350 US dollars. I’m pretty sure the Ideas group have been told not to approve any castle themed sets other than the Blacksmith because of they anticipated this for the anniversary set. For anything, I can’t wait to get a really legit modular castle in August
Beautiful set and review! I bought and reviewed the Pursuit of Flight. I think Lego Ideas was still okay in the pre covid period, but nowadays the number of projects submitted and reaching 10k are really a lot, while the selected ones didn’t increase that much. Hopefully the bricklink program will continue in the future. As for bts, I understand the business choice of the company, it will sell like crazy and will bring new people into Lego, but what bothers me is the design. Of course Lego will make it cool, but the original design is not up to standard, so many afol put days and weeks in their projects and this get selected… Anyways… hopefully we’ll get the castle for the 90th anniversary
My set was actually missing pieces. Some parts were in other bags, and were just sitting off to the side for a while. The build itself makes up for alot of the gripes I had while building the set though
Also I might be in minority here but I don't think they should produce more of these sets, it's very rare that anything from Lego is limited edition, so let people who got it have something special for their collection. Also it's Lego and I'm almost positive there are no exclusive parts in these sets, and the instructions are available from Lego, so just part it out on Bricklink if you want it that bad.
They didn't make the Canadian train set, which would have been wanted by both the railfan community, model railroad community, and Canadians. huge missed opportunity
Many people tried to order one on the day it was released, but their website kept crashing. I tried to order one of those sets, but it closed as I put it in my cart. When I tried to pay for it, it said it was sold out. I’m not going buy it for 3 times the price. LEGO made such a dumb decision with this. They should have limited the sets to one or two per transaction. LEGO should have realized that this set would sell out fast, since there are always several medieval/castle sets that get submitted to LEGO Ideas every single time.
Glad you enjoyed it! Great video with lots of good points made. I personally am not opposed to Lego making rare limited sets especially since unlike past con exclusives these were available to the general public. Also the box didn’t look too bad. Mine had about the same level of damage as well unfortunately.
the lego Ninjago and lego Nexo Knights series was futureristic for me to like em. I like the classic castle themes and the old lego Ninja theme. There are a bunch of us who are medieval and/or medieval fantasy nerd and whould love lego continue wiht said series.
Yeah I'm with you on this one. I never like this stupid looking Ninjago and Nexo. Growing up in 80's and 90's , classic theme always been my favorite but I could never afford to buy big sets. I've lost interest in Lego from early 2000's until 2015 and now I just started collecting them again.
Didn’t they already made a medieval set for ideas just last year, a creator castle just hit the shelves, and even a rumor of a $300 lions castle set next year? BTS has potential to draw in new people into LEGO and their fan base is in billions around the world it’s popular and interesting to see how well it’ll sell, probably better than the Beatles set or friends central perk cafe even. Heck they’re some in the community that would buy some day one.
“Billions”‽ They’re massively popular, but I think we can safely say that fewer than 1 in 8 people, out of the entire world population, are fans. 100s of millions, /maybe/. Though the biggest semi-official number I can quickly find is 22 million (fan club members), so probably 10s of millions is the real number. Which is still huge!
@@natbarmore I had seen like 5 sites that estimated the fandom at about 70-90 million. Which is insane to wrap my mind around it and I would think that the brand might be the new Beatles but they’re probably already pass that. It’s honestly insane how much popular could they get.
I kinda feel like they could of just released a bts set without going through ideas. They are a popular group and any bit of market research would of been obvious. That ideas slot could of gone to a set that actually represents the core of what an ideas set should be. Not just a current pop culture reference
So right with the rant. It hurt my feelings that resellers sell this for 400 euro at the moment. What a review, thanks for pointing those cute details out. "We need more brickheadz!" 😅 Cant wait for August. Lets hope Lego doesn't decide to use Lego dolls instead of minifigures. I could see them doing that lol.
One of the things Lego could do is, for sets like this, limit to 1 per customer. And that’s 1 per customer, period, not 1 per customer per order. Obviously, it wouldn’t be perfect-but if they checked both payment info and shipping address, and if /either/ matched, block the purchase, then scalpers would have to have multiple payment forms, linked to multiple billing addresses, and multiple places they could ship something and collect it. Lots of people have multiple places they could receive a package (like work and home, or home and friend’s home), and lots of people have multiple credit cards-but they likely mostly all have the same billing address. That should at least cut it down a little bit. Bricklink and BrickOwl could also refuse to host sales of limited run sets, either entirely, or for some time period, or they could limit resales to original retail price and no higher, thus reducing the ease of reselling at a profit, and thus the incentive to scalp limited-run sets. Of course, that might also backfire: having fewer, less-reliable places to buy such things might just drive their prices up even more.
Amazing design! So sad this is not generally available. I would be very disappointed if the 90th anniversary castle comes out less interesting than this set.
Btw if you like me who want to own this set but can't, but own lego creator 3in1 31120 castle ,Then i has good News for you On rebricable Is alternate build from "MIJbricks" called Black Falcon's fortress with free instructions And this alternate build can definitively rival this set
That's why they are the #1 toy brand , cuz they so stupid 😄🙄. Companies need to attract new clients to keep the beast growing, you don't increase sales overall by catering to the 'hardcores'. It's true in any industry.
BTS is massive, they even get their own happy meals at McDonald’s. I LOLed at the Lego reps response, the person who bought it might be hurt, so let’s make sure other people can’t buy it. Great review as always, looks like a great set.
I am a huge castle fan and it sucked when nexo knights came out. I only bought a few of the sets and was not liking them at all. When this set was announced I was so excited until I read only 5 to 10 thousand would be made. I knew I would not get one because I had to work the day it came out. It made me quite mad at lego and I stopped buying lego for a while after that. I only buy very few sets now.
Actually, BTS is a widely known band that has gained popularity around the world. I think it's a smart decision because people who wouldn't buy LEGO would buy the BTS set
Alex, relax? The designer of Castle in the Forest has submitted a new and improved Castle to the Ideas program and with 10K supporters it will be in the next review period. So I think everyone will get an opportunity to own this set. Also we have the 90th anniversary Castle set coming in August for $350 should be Awesome.
That's a huge middle finger to the creator that made a really nice set but it has to be legos way or was it the pieces that lego companie couldn't make cus of cost? I would've loved to have the other style and the figures to
Totally agree with your rant, Alex! Supposedly hurt feelings vs many happy Lego Afols … apparently a tough choice. Love the castle and looking forward to you bringing the theme to life!
That BTS set... I was looking at it, and I couldn't help thinking about how it would be advertised. "Play features include: - Reenact a Korean music video, probably! - Looks like the laundromat your mom took you to when you were five! - Almost enough walls to pretend it's a building! - There's a hole over the door where a brick is just missing! - donut?" What the heck is Lego thinking? Who wants that?
This video made me sad. I was hoping for a nice video full of positivity regarding a new castle set, but instead I got tricked into enduring a video which one third was nothing else than another disguised lego ideas rant. I don’t get it why countless youtubers did videos to complain about 10k BTS fans that got the set they voted for while another 10k fans didn't get theirs. Is it really that hard to just be happy for the 10k fans that got their set voted in? Also making it seem like one set didn't get made because another set from a totally different round of voting got chosen, made the rant sound even more absurd to me. Unfortunately because of how lego ideas works, it will always yield a much higher amount of sets that don’t get chosen compared to the amount that gets chosen and because the community seems to prefer to focus on the amount of sets that didn't get voted in instead of just being happy that some fans got a chance to turn their creativity into a real set, I’m afraid lego might just decide to cancel the ideas program altogether, just to avoid the recurring negativity every new round of lego ideas seems to be attracting.
Thank you for being the voice of reason and truth in the Lego community. Lego continues to make very questionable and poor decisions. They aren't full woke, but boy they want to be haha
It’s sponsored by lego. Bricklink is a company lego owns. It’s an official set just under the bricklink designer program name. It’s also %100 real lego parts
Lego should have chosen the castle instead of its. The bricklink designer program sometimes has better sets than ideas itself. I only heard of it by the second round, so I missed out on the first round.
Love this set. And I seriously hope that BTS set flops. Clearly being done as a cash grab. Actual Lego fans have done an amazing job of supporting the company.
LEGO is kidding themselves if they don’t want to make more of these sets and reboot the castle theme. Instead of sacking employees LEGO needs to give us sets we will buy. LEGOs priorities are all wrong. Do better
You are 100% right on with the select process Alex. It is extremely frustrating at times seeing what they select to produce. BTS?! I didn't know what the hell that was either. Total lunacy! There were 30 ideas better then that garbage. Lego at times is like the government. Totally out of touch with the masses. Awesome video. Thanks
@@dd_zzero6827 believe me I am NOT saying that. The set is gonna suck lego is just trying to make money. I do not at all agree with their decision here
@@brickheadz2865 I know you don't like it but I am so mad at Lego for being so stupid! They make so many stupid decisions throughout the years it is getting frustrating. They aren't going to make much out of this. The target audience is teenage girls. Teenage girls don't buy Lego. These morons at Lego see how people clamor for all kinds of stuff but yet ignore them and go and build stupid crap like this. I am tired of it. Trust me when I say that just because they are huge company and have "experts" running it, doesn't make them smart. Sorry, just venting.
@@dd_zzero6827 there are teenage girls, there are adults that buy Lego, everybody buys lego. It’s a great opportunity for another band in lego and bts has billions of fans, I think it’s gonna sell better than the central perk set. Like the friends line has been around for 10 years and it’s still selling well enough for more.
I'm sadly one of the people who voted for Bionicle so will be disappointed if the 90th anniversary set is a castle. Not our fault Lego was dumb and separated out all the castle themes.
This goes beyond the ideas stuff, the Lego group is honestly becoming such a terrible country. People that work for Lego literally have no idea what they are doing and have zero awareness of what their customers and fans want. There is so much potential in design opportunities, but instead of creating original themes such as pirates and castles as you mentioned in one of your previous videos Alex, they chase licensed themes for quick cash. However, even with the licensed themes they screw up. Every year Lego Star Wars fans beg for prequel sets and more clones and battle packs and instead we get a 20th reiteration of Luke’s land speeder and a clone commander that doubles as a clone pilot in the Republic gunship with not even the right logo. As a lifelong Lego fan this is such a spit in the face they really need to clean house and start listening to feedback.
I like BTS but I sure as hell don’t want a set of it. It seems just like a pathetic attempt to cash in on an at the moment fad. Lego ideas has become an endless source of frustration.
I think one of the true (unspoken) reasons why lego doesn't want to produce more of this castle is rumored upcoming big lion's king castle for 350.
Good call
But this castle looks much better!!!!!

"Play features include:
- Reenact a Korean music video, probably!
- Looks like the laundromat your mom took you to when you were five!
- Almost enough walls to pretend it's a building!
- There's a hole over the door where a brick is just missing!
- donut?"
What the heck is Lego thinking?
Doesn’t this Marvin guy worry about the feelings of those fans that want but can’t get this set??? Get in touch with reality.
This castle looks so awesome - I wish I’d known about it. Lego seems to make many poor business and design decisions,
as well as being a total rip off
It’s a Germany flag
Thank you for being the voice of reason and truth in the Lego community. Lego continues to make very questionable and poor decisions. They aren't full woke, but boy they want to be haha
:)
Gotta see it’s cool but if it’s not lego , I’m like ugh
It is Lego
It’s sponsored by lego. Bricklink is a company lego owns. It’s an official set just under the bricklink designer program name. It’s also %100 real lego parts
Lego should have chosen the castle instead of its.
The bricklink designer program sometimes has better sets than ideas itself. I only heard of it by the second round, so I missed out on the first round.
Love this set.
And I seriously hope that BTS set flops. Clearly being done as a cash grab. Actual Lego fans have done an amazing job of supporting the company.
think the main reason why this set went so fast because it had no limits and scalpers got there hands on it.
That’s been proven false. Vast majority of the orders for this were single order. And there was a limit 5.
Thanks
They chose it because BTS is really famous. I hate their music but a lot of people love it so they are trying to bring in a new audience
@@brickheadz2865 Just because they are famous and a lot people like them doesn't make it a good Lego set.
Like the friends line has been around for 10 years and it’s still selling well enough for more.
artificial scarcity 🤮
This makes me sick I want classic themes not boy band themes lol
Update i traded my used old ewok village for a sealed copy call me crazy but I’m vibing with the medieval theme more!!
I'm sadly one of the people who voted for Bionicle so will be disappointed if the 90th anniversary set is a castle. Not our fault Lego was dumb and separated out all the castle themes.
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!! I dont know what they are thinking.
