Not sure if it's sexist or not, but not getting paid - that's un-American. Also, my first thought when watching the video was, given that they're playing on artificial turf in not a lot of clothing, they must get brutal turf burns.

My friend Tia was a quarterback for the Cleveland Crush (before the team moved to Toledo, Ohio and ultimately folded). Each team had open tryouts, and it was all voluntary. While nobody was paid directly, there were other opportunities to make money, such as personal appearances, etc. As far as the "uniforms" go, she said, "Who cares? It's my choice. If you don't like it, don't watch."

Sure. And my buddy once dated a stripper who also sometimes turned tricks. It was voluntary. On both of their parts.
It is what it is. Where there is a dollar to be earned, people will do anything. And there will be people lining up to plunk down their cash.
Lingerie football seems even more debasing, IMHO. But that's perhaps just me.
Do I think any of this should be outlawed? No. But it's a sad reflection on society.

So glad I saw this post first. The original lingerie games were played in actual lingerie. Skimpy nighty's, no protective gear and the women were less serious. This has definitely evolved since the early beginnings and could be a great sport opportunity for the right player base. As to the lack of protective equipment and no pay, I hope that will also be changed, sooner than later would be better.
Will it be able to rival and match men's football, only time will tell.

At my middle school and high school we had an event at every field day called powder puff football. It was basically lingerie football, even though the rules said no clothing could be removed. Most girls found a way to roll and twist their cloths that all that was covered was the same as a bikini. Although this was in Houston usually during 100F or higher temp outside in the sun. Here it's normal for people to wear swimsuits year round sometimes.

Afternoon Diane. Like you mentioned, the stands really aren't filled, which is why they really dont get paid. It's like when the 1st version of the Arena Football League (indoor football very similar to this but with men playing) was around. Those players didn't get paid much either the first bunch of years, but when they started getting paid more, it's one of the reasons that various teams and the whole league folded.

I went to a game in San Diego in their 1st year. I loved it. My main complaint was the coaching staff was horrible. No adjustments and horrible play calling (especially defensively). I kept yelling out at the coaches what was coming and what coverage they should call but nothing changed and LA kept scoring with the exact same play. I'm a coach so it bugged the hell out of me. A bunch of people around me couldn't believe I wasn't just there to watch hot women and I cared about the football.

10:18 Lmao at the cultural misunderstanding...
    Maybe Google the "Lambeau Leap"...Lol
It started in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the women in this video are playing this game.
It's also where the Green Bay Packers [the NFL team with which both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, among others, became American household names].
It's a celebration, after scoring a touchdown, where the player who just scored will jump onto the wall of the stands, and the fans will "catch" him (in this case "her")...or at least hold him (her) so that he (she) can sit up there for a quick moment and celebrate with the fans, who all grab and pat and slobber over and congratulate him (her).
So I believe that she knew what she was doing, and that nothing unusual or untoward was occurring.
    But that's just my opinion...lol

One advantage to using a smaller field is the greater availability of sports venues. In the USA we have a lot of sports on all levels. With minor leagues in every imaginable sport (even a pro lacrosse league) as well as professional and college level sports, just finding places to play can be difficult. Arena leagues with smaller fields became popular back in the 80s and have gone through several iterations over the years and the this is just the latest version of it. As for the sexism of them not getting paid, their are semi-pro men's football leagues where men don't get paid either. As you can imagine, the low fan attendance has a lot to do with it.

Professional football basically started the same way with players not paid and playing for the love of the game but as stadiums got bigger and bigger and crowds were willing to pay to watch the professional Football in the US took off, same with baseball, and all other professional sports. They just aren't wearing the standard football player's lower body pads-- the tailbone pad (I don't Think they're using one, but it's impossible to see here), and the thigh and knee pads. So all the most important protection is there. Plus, I don't think they'd be allowed to tackle below the waist since they aren't protected below the waist.

If they can't put asses in the seats (pun wholly, fully, and unapologetically intended) while playing in lingerie, how many tickets do you think they would sell if they were just a female copy of the NFL?
Probably not very many tickets would be sold, so the league would be insolvent after the first week of games.

To answer your first question, women are allowed to play NCAA football and occasionally do make teams. Vanderbilt, a division 1 school, had a women kicker (or punter) for the 2020 season. She wasn't recruited as a football player, but instead a soccer player and took over when the original player was injured (plus covid). The NFL doesn't require males either, but I don't know of a female ever playing.

When I was in high school, there was a "powderpuff" football team for the girls. Full protective gear. They played teams from other schools, though there weren't as many games as the boys had, and the schedule was different. I didn't know any of the girls who played, though looking at some of them, you would have expected them to be cheerleaders rather than football players. I never went to see their games, so I'm not sure how rough they got, but to be honest I rarely went to see the boys play either.

    Greetings Diane
Technically they are NOT playing in lingerie. They are playing more in swimwear. Their 'panties' are very similar to the shorts worn by Hooters waitresses. The top is more of a sports bra or swimwear top that can be seen at a gym or swimming pool. But if I am remembering right, the first 2 season they WERE in actual lacy (typical) lingerie. This version shown was change to so it would look less sexist and exploitive.
Currently, NO they do not have the option to play in something else than the swimwear uniform. In actuality, these women have MORE cloth on their bodies than beach volleyball players.
Remember there was a controversy about some female Scandanavia (volleyball?) team wearing skimpy outfits at the Olympics(?) because they were ALSO wearing the same style bootie shorts. And If I remember the rules of the Olympics, none of the competing athletes are allowed to get financially compensated for participating / competing in the Olympics.

They don't get salaries because they are technically independent contractors, but the teams get revenue sharing now: 20% of the ticket sales if they win and 10% if they lose. Some players have even become millionaires.

Being from Chicago the most important thing was that Chicago beat Green Bay our historic football rivals.
I agree with you. As long as lingerie football is an option It’s great. But at this point, I don’t know that it is an option rather than the only possibility available to women.
I’m also bothered by the fact that the women don’t get paid. Perhaps the league by now 10 years later is helping to encourage the women to get professional endorsements that could be worth a lot more than anything in the league could afford to pay. But that’s an issue. What can the league afford to pay versus how much of the leagues revenue is pure profit for the investors?
But as long as the women are enjoying it, that’s a big important factor. I’ve been in 50 players and rarely got paid except with applause and opportunity and I was happy with that. Being a day in and day out, professional actor would’ve required giving up so many long-term benefits that I wound up needing.
That one jerk was really out of line, unless he’s in a relationship with the player which with the size of these crowds is possible, but it still looks creepy as hell.
So you were thinking of another channel a 😆 😆 😆, well, I’m sure most of your audience wouldn’t mind a Diane laundry channel, but we just want you to do as much you contract as you can and that is fantastic.
In the meantime, stay weird, stay fun and take good care of Chewy.
Speaking of interesting topics, there is a conspiracy theory getting a traction that O.J. Simpson’s wife or ex-wife was Ashley murdered by OJ son so you might want to take a look for that and your commentary on that yeah it’s a little dark but so so interesting.
    Poob!

Hard to say they aren't being objectified when "lingerie" is in the title of the league. Also, they are playing on the same sized field on which men play arena football.
I don't think it's too much to ask to pay the athletes something....anything.

The field is smaller because it's not a football stadium, they're playing in hockey arenas. (As someone mentioned, just like the men's Arena Football League did.) That's why they're bouncing off the sideboards - the stands are far away from the field in football stadiums! The LFL is in part to raise revenue for hockey arenas that sit unused in summer. BTW women's pro basketball is probably the biggest women's team sport in the USA.

Who's going to pay for salaries and medical insurance when the league doesnt make any money? If you sell 1,000 tickets at $20 a game thats only $20,000.. You still have to pay people who work at the stadium, fees for using someone else's stadium, etc, etc, etc. So what are you going to pay them? $10 each?? Most people would rather play for free than be insulted. If a sports league makes NO MONEY (like the WNBA) then they are lucky they have volunteers who play for themselves and the love of the game!

Again, we'd have to check the rules of this league to see the full picture; because if the type of tackling that is allowed is highly restricted, to the point that I suspect it is restricted, then they are Overprotected if anything.
