I enjoyed your newest flosstube. My favorite Halloween memory is when my Mom dressed up in costume at my Grandfather's house who lived nearby. We did not know her at all. That was so much fun! I am interested in 1,,2,3,5. Happy stitching.

#3 My son is an only child, so there were many years it would just be the two of us out Halloweening. I always dressed up to walk along with him...being vertically challenged most people thought I was a teenager and handed me candy as well. I always corrected them and proudly announced no thank you, I am the mom. After living in our town for several years people began to recognize us hiking around town all scarey and smiling; I still received just as many candies as he did and I cherish those days of old.

When I was growing up, we would dress up, go to our church fall festival and then go home for chili and trick or treating. We still do that now. Our kids are grown, so we host our Sunday School class (young families) and they bring their kids for a bonfire, chili and trick or treating. So much fun and so many great memories! 1, 2, 3, 5

My favorite memories like yours are times with my kids. We live in a very small
town in Missouri where everyone knows everyone. A group of mothers walked along with our kids door to door in their home made costumes, gathering candy and treats. Their was an older lady my daughter called Grandma even though she wasn't, who always made pop corn balls. I still remember the sound of rustling leaves we walked through. 2, 3, 5

Favorite Halloween Memory: As a 5 - 6 year old, I attended a One Room Schoolhouse (1948 - 50) in Rising Sun, Iowa. At school, we played many games for prizes, one of which "guess how many seeds" were in the school's carved pumpkin. Dressed in costume for the evening, neighbors would carpool us to the outlying farms, where we'd receive fresh, homemade cookies, of course, apples, and warm freshly made popcorn balls. - Nancy

A favorite Halloween activity was watching my dad carve pumpkins for the four of us kids. When I had kids of my own, trips to the pumpkin farm was always fun. As a teacher, we went to a farm that had pumpkins as well as a lot of fall activities. Then when I had grandkiddos we all went to the pumpkin farm where we walked through the fields, picking pumpkins. There were also a bunch of activities for the kids. And lastly, I love seeing my grandkiddos dress up. I have a couple of costumes left from when I was a teacher and have been known to dress up too. 1,2,4,5

My favorite memory is when my husband and I had taken our kids trick-or-treating in a small community and we were singing yo-ee-oh like the guards in the Wizard if Oz-much to the embarrassment of our daughter!!! Our son went right along with it! I would like to be in the drawing for #4! Thank you!!!

Our church had its annual Fall Festival. It was fun. Lots of games and prizes, and a photographer took lots of photos of everyone. Every year was a different display for the photos, but usually, they had pumpkins, cornstalks, and hay bales. The adults had as much fun as the children. 2 , 3 , 5

The retreat sounded like a lot of fun. My favorite memory for Halloween is an annual party we would participate in. My husband and I have been grandkids, pirates, Raggedy Ann and Andy, Disco dancers, and children of the 50's with the poodle skirt and leather jackets. It was so fun. I love to see how my grandkids dress up and of course the neighbor kids come to the door. Have fun at Annabella's .

I'm glad your retreat was such a success, and it sounds like it was a ton of fun! Hurricane Wilma blew through Broward County, FL, a few days before Halloween in 2005. Most of the streets were cleared in a few days, but there were trees piled on the sides of streets awaiting pickup. Many in my town did not have their power back. And the town cancelled trick-or-treating because the sidewalks and yards were not all cleared. A nearby neighborhood put together a Halloween party, and my son was invited. Dinner was potluck, the neighbors created a scary house in one backyard, and the kids played games. Best Halloween ever! 4, 5

Glad your retreat went well! It sounds wonderful! My favorite Halloween memory is making costumes for my kids. One year, I made a Black Cat costume for our oldest daughter, Jenny and a Minnie Mouse costume for our youngest daughter, Becky complete with white gloves and gold shoes. Minnie went to a Halloween party at a school function for the entire small town where my mom lived and 2 little girls (much younger) thought Becky really was Minnie Mouse! So adorable and so much fun! Anabella's new shop looks amazing! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Thank you for sharing your love of cross stitching with us.

Wow!! Thank you, Annie!! I WILL be emailing you ASAP! Yes, it took me days to watch this video, but only because we got our LAST final days of summer here in Michigan and I spent it at the BEACH worshipping the warmth of the sun and LOVING the water, Lake Huron, it was beautiful, nice and warm, and I never wanted to get out!!!! It was glorious!!! Better yet, we bought a house there inside a resort!!! Yesterday I signed the final paperwork! Every day has been incredible, and now THIS!! Wow!!! Thank you, again!!!
My favorite Halloween memory is one year it was warm into the evening and the kids did not need to wear coats which made wearing their costumes easy-peasy!!! They had a blast, as did I! They were able to go longer and they loved it! 2 4 5 of course! Oooooo!!!
I cannot wait to see your holiday designs!!!

My favorite childhood memory is when my Mom and I made my costume. I went to a party directly across the street from me. The children of the house had to guess who was who. I went out my back door ad down a couple of houses then walked to their house. No one could guess who I was. That made me very happy.
My favorite adult memory was when I made my children's costumes. I had to make a blue shark costume from one of my son's favorite cartoon shows. The body was easy to sew. The sharks head was stuffed with fiberfill and there was felt teeth, eyes, gills.

1, 2, 3, My favourite memory of Halloween is actually last year. I went to my son's house to give out the candy on Halloween night, so that he and his wife could go out with my grandchildren. My grand-daughter, of 8 years old, surprised me by dressing up as ME. She had on a furry housecoat, pearls around her neck, red glasses and a grey, curly wig. I laughed so hard because it was so obvious.

I am glad you had an awesome retreat. Sorry it was too busy to get any stitching time in. My favorite memory when I was younger was when my two friends and I used the church choir outfits to go out dressed like nuns. People laughed at every house. My best memory of my son when he was younger was the year I had to make a costume for him. I wanted to use something we already had so he had a suit from earlier that year when my brother had gotten married. I took his hat and made a sign that said "News" and made a "Press" sign for his lanyard. He had a fake microphone from a few years before that when he went dressed as Elvis. My son has a great sense of humor so when he went to school that day, he interviewed each teacher he ran into. They told me he made them laugh all day at school. 1, 2, 3, 5

Love your new antique sampler! So gorgeous! I don't celebrate Halloween anymore, but I loved making my son and daughter costumes when they were young. My kids just loved the costumes and wore them for play afterward. My son wore his Superman costume until them seams ripped as he outgrew it! I remember having such fun sewing costumes. My daughter was Belle from Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. As far as myself, I would go out a couple of times in different costumes just to get more candy! Times have definitely changed for trick or treating. Oh, it's also my mom's birthday. She turns 94 this year! 2, 5

Hi Annie - I always enjoy your flosstube so much. When I was in elementary school, the original Addams Family black and white sitcom from the 60s was a huge deal. So when my Mom asked me what I wanted to be for Halloween (I was 9), I said I wanted to be Thing from The Addams Family. My wonderful mother figured out how to make a Thing costume including the box. And since I was being Thing, my brother, who was a grade ahead of me, was Cousin It. We were a big hit at school and when we went out trick or treating in our neighborhood. That started my love affair with Halloween. #5 please. Take Care.

My favorite memory of Halloween was making costumes for my son. He was a dinosaur when he was in preschool including a tail about 3 foot long (and that took a LOT of stuffing). 1, 2, 4, 5

My favorite Halloween memory was from around the time Stars Wars first came out (yes, I’m old!). My mom helped me make a robot costume from cardboard boxes covered with foil and using painted lightbulb as antennae. We found an old silver (seriously), long-sleeved, mini dress from the Goodwill which is what wore underneath. I wore it to a skating party where I won first prize. I have no idea how I was able to skate in it lol! 2 3 4 5

My favorite Halloween memories are some of the fantastic Halloween parades I've been a part of - there is a famous one at UCSB in CA they did every year back in the 80's, but I think it's no longer held. University kids can be so clever, and naughty too. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Costumes that make you laugh out loud. A second memory is when my family was in the Army stationed in Germany and a family from Sicily lived across the street. One of the kids happened to come by while I was carving a pumpkin for Halloween and he exclaimed," I read about this in school! "

My favorite Halloween memory would have to be taking our son to Disney World. It was his first time at Disney at 2yrs old. He wore a fireman costume and got so many compliments from cast members and guests. We went trick or treating around the park and ate lots of goodies 😊. 1,3,5

I have mostly celebrated Halloween by making a costume and dressing up! When I was in college my friends and I decided to be Crayola Crayons for the school Halloween party. We went to the store and bought sheets in 5 different colors and sewed them into tubes ( I brought my sewing machine to college and it came in handy several times!). To make the label on the crayon we drew on the fabric with Magic Marker out in the hall of our dorm. As you can imagine the smell was pretty bad! We opened the doors at the end of the hall which helped some but it took a week to get the smell out of the hall! Thankfully we did it on on Saturday afternoon when not many people were around. We never told anyone what caused the smell! We also colored lotion to make our faces match our costume! All of the colors came off except yellow which took about 3 days so the yellow person had to attend class looking kind of jaundiced! (we were all nursing majors) We did win first prize that night at the party! We dressed up every year after that but chose costumes that didn't involve magic marker or colored makeup.
    Have a great week! 2, 3, 5

My favorite Halloween memory is the old fashioned lady costume my mom made for my sister, and then it got passed down to me! She would put our hair up into a fancy bun, it was so fun. She was a wonderful seamstress, but hated to sew! I have a portfolio from Kreative Carol and it is wonderful! I have 4 small projects all in one! Wish I could have attended the retreat. I hope to be able to do so next year. 1,2,5

My favorite Halloween memory is just the fun that all of us children had in our busy neighborhood. We grew up in a very diverse neighborhood with a lot of older people who migrated from European countries like Italy, Portugal and more. There was an old Portuguese woman who tried so hard to embrace Halloween but she just didn’t quite understand. She would invite us kids in for popcorn and hot chocolate. We were always polite and went in, but we really wanted to just keep walking from door to door getting treats.

My sister, brother and me would trick or treat on a country road that was very dark. We would go to the McQuillis house that was beside a very old cemetery on a hill. To get to their porch you had to climb at least one hundred stairs. So, we climb all of those stairs with our costumes on…it was not easy. We get to the top and my brother drops his plastic pumpkin. It bounced down all of those stairs and on to the road. We were heartbroken thinking we would never see his candy filled pumpkin again. My poor brother wanted to cry. I was sad for him. We ended up finding it. Then had to pass that cemetery again. I was sweating! Number 5

My favorite Halloween memory is dressing up as an "old fashioned lady" when I was in elementary school. This was back in the day when we made our costumes from things we found in the attic. Creativity at its best! I would love to receive giveaway #2.

2 5 When my oldest son was four my mom helped me sew Michelangelo the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume. It was a crazy amount of work the head part was stuffed the shell on the back was stuffed. It took us a long time to make it. With a lot of frustration and laughter.

We always celebrated Halloween when I was young. One year I "wore" a long fancy dress that my Mom had worn in high school and, of course, it was miles too long/big for me. I can remember trying to hold it up to walk up steps. Very hard to do! The best part was getting all that candy! When my son was little, I made all of his Halloween costumes. A pumpkin, Robin Hood, Hobo, green Power Ranger. It was a lot of fun!

I enjoyed Halloween with my children and coming up with cute (not ghoulish) costumes. When my son was in kindergarten he wanted to be a snowman. Wish I could attach a photo because he was so cute. And, another year when my daughter was 8 or 9 she dressed up at Pippy Longstockings, again so cute. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
