In that match both Gavaskar and Kapildev were against each other and Hariyana won it for the first time . What a match it was !! Now a days these all superstars are useless
I remember a Ranji match between North Zone and South Zone, I don't remember the year, but it's a comeback match for Mohinder Amaranth , South scored some 730 in the 1st innings in reply North scored some 800 + runs , Amaranth scored a brilliant Double Century and match was a draw. I remember that all top players played for their respective zones. SMG, GRV, Mohinder, Kapil everybody. Immediately after that Mohinder was selected for Pakistan tour.

When WI fielded at least 3 or 4 of their fast bowler, he struggled. BTW Gavaskar scored bulk of his runs & hundreds in 70's when many leading crickets were playing in Kerry Pecker WSC. In 80's against strong attack Gavaskar batting average & his rate of scoring hundreds lower down massively.
Sir everything you said is absolutely true. i am from Pakistan grew up watching sunny Gavaskar playing against the greatest fast bowlers and spinners scored all over the world regardless of pitches and conditions. never seen him throwing his wicket away in test cricket. perfect technique temperament i believe every bowler who ever got him out should be proud because it has to be a great delivery. great cricketer and wonderful human being. when he played and when he talks a total class.

Just saw that in the historic 2001 test at Eden Gardens, during India's second innings - Laxman played 452 deliveries and Dravid played 353 !! The attack compromised of Mcgrath, Gillespie, Kasprowicz and Warne. Do any batsman or pair of batsman in the current Indian team have the guts, patience, technique to play so many deliveries - overseas or in India? And together these 2 did not hit even a single six. Just imagine the skill they had to not just survive but also score runs down the ground by piercing field and finding gaps. Against the current Indian team these number of deliveries and the minutes spent seem like something out of the world. This performance itself is a remarkable feat achieved by remarkable men. The question is - can the current lot of batsmen develop such skills to get us big totals in tests? We only need 2 such batsmen, if not all 7-8 of them.
Gavaskar is invested in Indian Cricket as much as the current players if not more. He commentates in the hope that the team management will pay heed to his views, I think the current crop of players should be made to listen to what he says on air after a game.

No, he is not the GOAT but a GOAT contender. Bradman is the undisputed GOAT of cricket then Sobers is the GOAT of allrounder (i personally ranked Sobers as the greatest test batsman post Bradman era). Then during 70's & 80's Viv Richards was considered the best of his era ahead of Greg Chappell & Gavaskar. Then we have Sachin & Lara era then the likes of Ponting, Kallis, Sangakkara to now fav 4. Yeah Gavaskar is great but not better than Sachin, Bradman, Lara & Sobers etc. There is a myth that Gavaskar scored so many runs & hundreds against the mighty WI but he mainly scored those runs when 1 or literally no fast bowler played together. When WI fielded at least 3 or 4 of their fast bowler, he struggled. BTW Gavaskar scored bulk of his runs & hundreds in 70's when many leading crickets were playing in Kerry Pecker WSC. In 80's against strong attack Gavaskar batting average & his rate of scoring hundreds lower down massively.

Sir everything you said is absolutely true. i am from Pakistan grew up watching sunny Gavaskar playing against the greatest fast bowlers and spinners scored all over the world regardless of pitches and conditions. never seen him throwing his wicket away in test cricket. perfect technique temperament i believe every bowler who ever got him out should be proud because it has to be a great delivery. great cricketer and wonderful human being. when he played and when he talks a total class.

Just saw that in the historic 2001 test at Eden Gardens, during India's second innings - Laxman played 452 deliveries and Dravid played 353 !! The attack compromised of Mcgrath, Gillespie, Kasprowicz and Warne.
Do any batsman or pair of batsman in the current Indian team have the guts, patience, technique to play so many deliveries - overseas or in India?
And together these 2 did not hit even a single six. Just imagine the skill they had to not just survive but also score runs down the ground by piercing field and finding gaps.
Against the current Indian team these number of deliveries and the minutes spent seem like something out of the world.
This performance itself is a remarkable feat achieved by remarkable men.
The question is - can the current lot of batsmen develop such skills to get us big totals in tests? We only need 2 such batsmen, if not all 7-8 of them.
