Kevin you are right on target. This video is the perfect companion to Marcus's book "What Must I do To Be Saved". Actually, probably the better way to phrase it is this, if you like this video read his book. I find this with a lot of religious books I have read and I found it with Marcus's book which I read about a year ago. Sometimes when you see the author giving a presentation on the topic of his book it "unlocks" a more deeper understanding of the message in the book. That is exactly what happened for me and now the book is a tremendous reference document for me to use.
Unfortunately in my case I must have lent my copy of "What Must I Do To Be Saved" to one of my brother Knights of Columbus. Oh well, go to know someone else is benefiting from Marcus's message.
Keep up the great work Marcus and the team at CHN you are bringing people back the Church founded by Jesus Christ and that is the best hope for our world.

      God's Plan of Salvation
      GOD'S PART
      1. The great love of God for man (John 3:16)
      2. He gave His Son, Jesus Christ, as the Saviour (Luke 19:10)
      3. Sent the Holy Spirit as a guide (John 16:13)
      4. Gave the Gospel as "the power" unto salvation (Romans 1:16)
      5. Provided atonement by the blood of Christ (Romans 5:9)
      MAN'S PART
      1. Hear the Gospel. (Romans 10:17, John 8:32)
      2. Believe the Gospel (Hebrews 11:6, John 20:31)
      3. Repent of past sins (Luke 13:3, Acts 17:30)
      4. Confess faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 10:10, Matthew 10:32)
      5. Be Baptized (Galatians 3:27, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38)
      6. Be faithful unto death (Revelations 2:10)
God has done His part; will you do yours?
''What Must I do to be saved?''
This is the question that every man and woman must answer in their lives if they hope to spend eternity with God in Heaven. The apostle Paul says, in Phil 2:12, to those of the church in Philippi,
"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."
Thus, we understand that it is our own responsibility to answer the question, "What we must do to be saved?" No one else can answer that question for us, nor can we trust others with this, most important, decision. We must seek our answer from God and His Word.
So, what does the Bible say about salvation?
We cannot be saved by the creeds or manuals of men.
      In Matthew 15:9, Jesus says,
"But in vain they do worship me, teaching for a doctrine the commandments of men."
In Galatians 1:6-9, the inspired writer says,
"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."
God is against any teaching that is not directly from Him. Thus, we must turn to the Word of God to determine that which we must do to be saved.
Again, the Apostle Paul writes to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:16-17,
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
So then, we must look to the Word of God to learn the way of our salvation, if we are to have hope of reaching Heaven.
First, we must HEAR the word of God. In John 5:24-25, Jesus says,
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgement, but hath passed out of death into life."
Obviously, hearing His word is very important to our salvation.
Second, we learn that hearing produces FAITH.
      Romans 10:17 says,
"Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God."
We cannot have faith if we do not know what the word of God has to say. Many believe they have faith, and that it is independent of what the Bible actually says. But according to the Bible, men and women can only attain faith through hearing the word of God.
      Third, we must REPENT.
      In Luke 13:3, Jesus says,
"Unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
      In Acts 2, Peter preaches the first gospel sermon, in which he explains to everyone who Jesus is and the horrific crime they had committed in putting Him to death. We can pick up the story in verse 37;
"Now when the heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the Apostles 'men and brethren what shall we do?' Then Peter said unto them, Repent..."
We will get to the rest of the story in a moment, but certainly this appears to be a requirement for those who desire to become disciples of Jesus Christ.
Again, in Acts 3:19 Peter says
"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;"
So, if repentance is a requirement, what does it mean and what must we do to meet this requirement? To repent is to change our mind and make the decision that we will change our life to begin serving the Lord as He desires us to serve Him. This is brought about by understanding what God has done for us, and realizing that we are not right with Him in our current condition and that we desire to change so as to please Him. This means, that an immoral person must become moral and upright in lifestyle. For the religious person who has tried to live a life pleasing to God, repentance may involve recognizing that we have not done what God requires of us with regard to salvation and that we must obey the inspired plan in order to be right with Him. If we are in the denominational world, belonging to a church that has a creed or doctrine other than the Bible and/or in addition to the Bible, then we must turn away from such a religion and find a congregation of people that believe in the Bible and only the Bible. (We are certainly happy to help you in any such search.) Repentance then is produced by Godly sorrow (2 Corinthians 7:10) which leads to a change of heart and a change of mind, which is the beginning of a changed life... one that is dedicated to God.
Fourth, we must CONFESS our faith in Jesus Christ.
      Romans 10:8-10 says,
"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
      Then, we must be BAPTIZED...
The person who is a repentant, confessing believer is a person ready to be baptized. To many in the world, baptism is a controversial issue. As simple as the process is and as often as it is commanded in the New Testament, many in the religious world just cannot accept it as the Bible teaches it. Let's see what the Bible says about baptism. Remember Peter's first Gospel ermon in Acts 2? We looked at it earlier in the section on repentance. Let's take a look at the rest of that passage now.
      Acts 2:36-39
"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."
This tells us that baptism is necessary for the remission (forgiveness) of sins.
The apostle Paul tells us in Galatians 3:26-27,
"For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ."
So, we are children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. But what does that faith in Jesus lead us to do? When do we actually put on Christ?
The answer of Galatians 3:27 is simple. The believer has put on Christ when he or she is baptized into Christ.
Look again to the Bible. In Acts 22:16, Ananias is quoted by Paul as saying,
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord."
So then, baptism washes away sins. But it is not the physical washing of the body that makes the difference. Rather, it is our willingness to do that which God has commanded us to do. Peter explains this in I Peter 3:20-21 when he says,
"Which sometime were disobedient, when once the long suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"
We come up out of the water to "walk in newness of life."
God then adds us to the church (Acts 2:47). Not by vote or the decisions of men, but God alone adds us to His Church.
Finally, we must live our lives in faithful and loyal service to our Lord Jesus Christ as God has directed (Revelations 2:10). We must find a congregation that believes and practices as the New Testament directs... following the Word of God... speaking where the Bible speaks, living by His Word and His Word alone. Trusting in God to save us as He has promised those who would be faithful to Him.
If you find yourself not in compliance with the Bible's plan of salvation, you can change. You can make your life right with God. No matter how old you may be, it is not too late to make your life right by obeying the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you are sincerely desiring to serve the Lord, then He can certainly help you in your pursuit of righteousness. Please contact us if you would like to correspond or speak with someone concerning the Bible's plan of salvation.

you know I said it before and I'll say it again the only place where the Bible says faith alone is where it specifically warns against it. you know I find it mildly hypocritical that they say Catholics added books to the Bible which we did not yet they add the word alone in the Romans because Luther said it was implied.

Adam Hovey I was at a Protastant men's breakfast and one of the men had to do a bible reading before we ate and he was given James. He starts reading Jame 2:20-24 and I will never forget what happened when he read to us "faith without works is dead." There was a sudden pause, it felt like 20 seconds had gone by as I watched him try and refocus his eyes on the bible page he was reading. He was saying something, but wasn't speaking, he might have been rereading the verse or the rest of the passage. He then looks at us and starts to stutter, "W...well I wouldn't ....wouldn't say faith is dead,... j...just works isn't needed." He then quickly sat down. All I could think was, "Wow! They even argue against the apostles and their words. James said DEAD.

but having faith only makes it confusion because of what Mark 16:16 and James 2:17 &24 andd 2 Corinthians 5:10 say. They keep asking for more. Does one verse cancle out another? Why are they saying "your faith has saved you" and then we are being told we will be judged by our actions like in Revelations and Matt 7:21. If all we need is faith then what are these verses talking about doing works and why will I be judged on works when I can just tell God, I didn't do any good deeds because it isn't required, you said I just had to believe and in your resurrection and who you are and that's it. So why are you now going to judge me on the things I did when you said I just need faith. I don't have to be a good person, I don't have to help anybody out, I can just keep to myself and be just me and Jesus. So why in the world is the bible saying I will be judged on deeds when I should be judged on my faith alone

Having been saved what must I do next?
The jailer at Philippi asked Paul and Silas a direct question and they gave him a direct answer. Now on behalf of the jailer let us ask the apostle Paul the next direct question: having been saved what must I do next? The brief answer is in the following verses:
Romans 6:1-2 do not go on sinning
1 Corinthians 15:34a Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning
Romans 6:6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace Romans 8:7-8 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
Romans 8:14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God
Continuous willful sinning is a red light in the bible indicating deadly danger. Our hope is that the Father (the God of hope), the Son (our blessed hope/our high priest/our intercessor) and the Holy Spirit who also intercedes for us will all prevent us from continuing deliberately in sin.
Titus 1:16a They profess to know God, but they deny him by their deeds
1 Timothy 6:11-12 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called......
Galatians 5:17b They (the sinful nature and the Spirit) are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
Wasn't Timothy saved? But note what Paul said to him in 1 Timothy 4:11,16 Command and teach these things. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
2 Timothy 2:10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Since we confess that Jesus is Lord (over all) we therefore acknowledge that he is indeed a very high divine authority and thus must obey his every command.
In some cases the apostles who were filled with the Spirit would expose the core or the direct, bare facts of Jesus' teachings and of their own but in other cases they would expound those teachings:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world.... that whoever believes in him (Jesus) shall not perish but have eternal life.
Titus 1:2 a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time (core teaching expounded)
1 Timothy 6:12b Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called...(core teaching expounded)
Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved.....it is the gift of God. 1 Thessalonians 5:8b and the hope of salvation as a helmet (core teaching expounded)
Romans 5:17b those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness....
Galatians 5:5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. (core teaching expounded)
Philippians 2:12b-13 continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose (core teaching expounded + core teaching) 2 Thessalonians 2:13b because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and belief in the truth. (core teaching)
Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (core teaching); this verse clearly implies that salvation is not an end in itself but instead it has a beginning that progresses to the end, just like you start your car and drive to the end of your journey. Philippians 1:6 also confirms that salvation has an initial beginning that sets in motion the process that progresses to its completion: "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith. Note these three important words that the apostle Paul packed in the single verse that I've just quoted, namely: remain, continue, progress.

If it is impossible for a person who was once enlightened and fell away, should that person just go and commit even more sin since it is impossible for that person. That seems pretty harsh, especially from a god who tells us to forgive 70 x 7. I don't know the answer but I am a pretty emotionally fragile person and verses like this do not inspire me. John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his Only Begotton Son. (a free gift - Romans 5:18)
That whosoever believeth in Him (the Son) should not perish (in damnation) but have Everlasting Life.
Christ's "way" to the Father is all the ordinances and principles and enduring to the end that comprise the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Man's agency determines his place on the path to the Father.
The Father sent the Son to save mankind from "Death and Hell." The resurrection of Christ saved all mankind by breaking the bands of Death and Hell, enabling mankind to again live in the flesh as a resurrected, immortal being and account for his agency -- whether he will suffer for his own sins or whether he will apply the Atoning suffering of Christ, makes no difference to the the laws of justice. Either way, mankind has been saved, man's agency has been saved, already! All who live on this Earth, except the Sons of Perdition, are assured a glory in their resurrection and will have a just reward in heaven as a child of God, and will be judged according to their works.

Nice teaching. I currently respectfully disagree it being both the Law and Christ. The revelation Jesus gave Paul in the three years Paul spent alone prepared Him to address the Law plus Grace issues that were happening in the Church early on. Where false brethren were trying to put Christians back under the bondage of the Law through circumcision. Galatians is super clear the Law leads to death but Faith In Christ leads to justification. As by the deeds of the Law no man is justified its is only by Faith.
When the Lord says He came to fulfill the Law it is because He had to because man could never do so. The fulfillment of it is the Love of God in Christ. Romans also points us that Love is fulfillment of the Law...That is the Law of Christ which is superior to the Moral law and is the embodiment of our faith.

Such a flippant approach to critiquing protestant beliefs.
It's obvious to anyone that a sign that says 3 : 16 is not the fullness of the Gospel. This type of strawman rather than strengthening the case for Catholicism in comparison to evangelicalism, would turn people away, just like when Grodi compares the variety of protestant beliefs and associates it with the jonestown massacre in his Journey Home broadcast.
Then some Catholics act like victims when the problems and scandals within Catholicism get used against their religion by non-religious people. "So much anti-catholicism"
One thing to note, much of what this man is teaching was taught to him in an evangelical seminary. There's a whole lot of context that goes with a biblical analysis of the old vs new covenant. Guess which person is more likely to know more about these details, the average Catholic or the average of evangelical?
Yes children get taught John 3:16, but devout evangelicals take their children to church multiple times a week, and children learn about the law of Moses, can identify the pentateuch from the prophets, and generally know the Bible and much of what Grodi is speaking here. By contrast, millions of Latin Americans leave Catholicism for evangelicalism, feeling that the gospel was not being heralded to them within their Catholic upbringing, even those growing up in devout Catholic homes and going to Catholic schools taking religion class regularly.

With respect Grodi is trying to give credence to catholic doctrine through Scriptures. But the real irony is telling Catholics what they must do to be saved! - I have no problem with that, -but the Hierarchy certainly would. Catholics can never have assurance otherwise why do they and their priests have to go to purgatory for who knows how long? It makes a mockery of Christs sacrifice .
Like Paul on the Damascus Road -there has to be a conversion experience, and then a growing in our walk with Christ- the works come after not before.
On the early Fathers -eucharist is always cited by Catholics as the earliest mention of the "Mass" -which it is not . The Greek noun "eucharistia" simply means thanksgiving feast after a meal.
The word" Catholic Church" as cited by early fathers simply refers to to "Universal" Christian church as it was at the time. The Protestant creeds refer to the Holy Catholic Church. The Church became ROMAN Catholic over time.

      +oliver cromwell "Catholics can never have assurance otherwise why do they and their priests have to go to purgatory for who knows how long? It makes a mockery of Christs sacrifice .";
You're right, but also wrong. Any believer can have reasonable, intellectual, emotional assurance, as much as humanly possible, that they will get to heaven. But they cannot know with INFALLIBLE certitude that they will persevere in Grace until their death. I'm Catholic, and I have a reasonable human certainty that I will not commit a mortal sin in the future. But I also realize that I am a weak human, and if I don't allow God's grace to help me, I will sin grievously. (It';s by grace that I remain free from mortal sin). So, I don't have infallible certitude that I will remain in Grace.
While God will never take away a believer's inheritance (heaven), a believer CAN reject his inheritance. A human cannot earn salvation, but he can earn to lose it. Peter, Paul, John... they all mention how a believer can lose his salvation. Once-Saved-Always-Saved is new and novel, a false doctrine of men, not found in the original body of Christian doctrines. (But if I over looked it, if you find the concept in early Christian writings, please post references.) The concept had no significant following among Christians until >500 years ago.
Here';s a great summary of the issue (catholic.com)
"As the Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5-8), but I’m also being saved (1 Cor. 1:18, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9-10, 1 Cor. 3:12-15). Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11-13)"

    • @olivercromwell8688
      @olivercromwell8688 9 років тому

      +AmericanBerean If our salvation was dependent on ourselves then we could certainly lose it, but it is Christ who keeps his people;
"and i give them eternal life, and they shall never perish , neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand" John 10v28.
Believers' eternal security rests on Gods purpose in choosing us to salvation and predestinating us to sonship in Christ (Eph 1v4-5). It would mean a reversal of all of Gods work in justifying us , adopting and sanctifying us. When God starts a work he finishes it. Certainly we all fail daily and have doubts about our faith and even fall away but the true believer will always return.
What Scriptures are talking about is Apostasy, someone who has made a "profession" then turns from it, i e never really saved to begin with. "They went out from us but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us, but their going showed that none of them belonged to us" 1John 2 v19. Matt ch13 parable about wheat and the tares is also about apostasy ,those pretending to be saved in the church but are eventually found out.
Apostasy is not a believer losing salvation instead it is evidence of past pretension.
      Thanks for your honest dialogue.

    • @AmericanBerean

oliver cromwell You are not correct. Paul recognized that even he himself could lose his salvation, saying "27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." (1Cor9). And Peter exhorted the believers he was addressing (and us, by extension) "5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins." (2Peter1). He also says we don't receive our crown of glory (symbolizing final, absolute accomplishment of salvation) until we meet Jesus (whether our death or the end of time), 1Peter5:4. So, you see, true believers can indeed lose their salvation. This is because we still have free will. We can choose to reject the inheritance that is ours as believers, which is eternal life with God. God will never disinherit us, but we can disinherit us. This is not works-based salvation. We cannot earn salvation, but we can earn to lose it, through willful serious disobedience, usually as a result of rejecting the grace we have available which enables us to resist temptations of deadly sin. It's all by God's grace, when we keep covenant with Him. When we reject that grace we break covenant and the natural consequence is loss of salvation.
The concept of Once-Saved-Always-Saved is a new and novel doctrine of men. Look in to documentary history. You won't find it in Christianity's body of doctrines before 1500's, when it cropped up among a splinter group of Christianity. Therefore it is false.

Our justification and redemption were merited by Jesus’ sacrifice, but our sanctification and purification are ongoing processes which continue until we die and even beyond our earthly lives if we need to be purified before entering Heaven. We read in Scripture (Rev 21:27): “But nothing unclean shall enter it [Heaven].” In Hebrews 12:14: “Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” Belief and holiness aren't mutually exclusive. I recommend John Salza's book 'The Biblical Basis for Purgatory'. And see the teachings of the Church Fathers.
“They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again.”
      - Ignatius of Antioch, Epistle to Smyrnaeans, 7,1 (c. A.D. 110). Ignatius was a disciple of John.
“He acknowledged the cup (which is a part of the creation) as his own blood, from which he bedews our blood; and the bread (also a part of creation) he affirmed to be his own body, from which he gives increase to our bodies.” Irenaeus, Against Heresies, V:2,2 (c. A.D. 200). Irenaeus was a disciple or student of Polycarp, who was a disciple of John. The holy sacrifice of the Mass has been celebrated since Apostolic time.
"Malachi 1:11 is a prophecy of a pure, sacrificial offering that will be offered in every place "from the rising of the sun to its setting." One sacrifice, but it will be offered in many places around the world. This prophecy is fulfilled only in the Catholic Church in the Masses being celebrated around the world, where the sacrifice of Christ which transcends time and space is offered for our salvation. If this prophecy is not fulfilled by the Catholic Church, then Malachi must be a false prophet and the book that goes by his name apocrypha.
See Dr. Pitre's book, 'Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist'. The Last Supper was a New Passover sacrificial meal - a pre-presentation of Christ's sacrifice on Calvary. The Mass is the re-presentation of Christ's sacrifice. There is only one sacrifice that's presented and ongoing transcending time and space. It's an ongoing sacrifice. Our Lord's hour began at the Last Supper (cf. Jn 2:3-11). See Hebrews 9. The pilgrim Church on earth is united with the heavenly Church - the new Jerusalem. The priests on earth celebrate the Mass in union with our eternal High Priest in heaven.
The word Catholic does mean "universal" in the Greek, but not in the ordinary sense of the word: widely dispersed through out the world". Irenaeus describes what the word Catholic means:
“[N]or does it consist in this, that he should again falsely imagine, as being above this [fancied being], a Pleroma at one time supposed to contain thirty, and at another time an innumerable tribe of Aeons, as these teachers who are destitute of truly divine wisdom maintain; while the Catholic Church possesses one and the same faith throughout the whole world, as we have already said.” Irenaeus, Against Heresies, 1:10,3 (A.D. 180).
By Catholic, we mean one Church with "one and the same faith around the world" which doesn't exist in Protestantism. The early Church was the NT Apostolic Church: one faith, one Lord, and one baptism. It consisted of 4 Patriarchates: Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem, and Rome. These did not comprise 4 autonomous and independent denominations. The first 3 patriarchates were in communion with the Bishop of Rome. The Catholic Church founded by Christ on Peter the Rock is one, visible, and hierarchical Church. Protestantism is a religious movement that arose in the 16th century.
“’…thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church’ … It is on him that he builds the Church, and to him that he entrusts the sheep to feed. And although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single Chair, thus establishing by his own authority the source and hallmark of the (Church’s) oneness…If a man does not fast to this oneness of Peter, does he still imagine that he still holds the faith. If he deserts the Chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, has he still confidence that he is in the Church?”
      - Cyprian, De Unitate Ecclesiae (Primacy text), 4 (A.D. 251

All mankind is saved from death and hell already. Man can stand before God with full agency and be accountable for his sins, in the flesh. Prior to the Atonement and resurrection all men were doomed. But tis not so now that Christ won the victory over death. Whether people believe or not they have been saved!

    • @adamberkey8880

What do you mean by "Well, no"?
Please don't send me on a goose chase to research your previous posts.
Are you telling me that Christ didn't save us from Death and Hell by breaking the bands of death?
Paul tells the Romans in Chapter 5:
18 Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; *even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men* unto justification of life.
Paul tells the Saints that the work of Jesus in conquering Death and Hell -- which came by the resurrection - is a *FREE GIFT* that came "upon all men" to save men from the unjust "judgment [which] came on all men to condemnation."
Isn't that what your are saying "Well no" to? How is what I stated any different? And if it is not different, why are you rejecting the words of Paul by saying "Well no" to the reasoning of his counsel to the Roman Saints?
Mark 16:16 is referring to entering into the covenant with the Father, through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You're getting your "salvations" mixed up here. The grace of God, the FREE GIFT that Paul refers to above, that is Salvation which requires the grace of God -- The Resurrection saves man from that which man could not affect through his agency, which Paul clearly described in verse 18 when he wrote that "by the offense of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation." Because Adam partook of the fruit, mankind was doomed to die in the physical body, and the spirit of man was doomed to be forever cast off from the presence of the Father with no way to account for his sins in the flesh. The resurrection save mankind freely from the affects of the Fall, enabling mankind to live against in the flesh, and account for his own sins either in the Lake of Fire or by repenting to the Father in the name of Christ and taking advantage of the Atonement of Christ, which is not a free gift. Baptism is the key to the gate of establishing a covenant relationship with the Father. Maintaining that covenant is entirely up to the agency of man, which was saved from doom by Christ's resurrection, FREELY to all mankind.

Baptism is the beginning of a Saint's covenant relationship with the Father, through the authority of the Son. The true Saints identify themselves as Saints, not Christians. Christians is a name that non-members called the Saints, not what the Saints called themselves. The use of the word Christians in the place of Saints is a manifestation of corruption. Baptism is not necessary for entering heaven, but is necessary for becoming joint heirs with Christ, receiving the "fullness of salvation."
If a person desires to inherit "all that the Father hath" in the great mansions of the Father and rise to "Celestial" glory in the resurrection, "the way" to that destination is only through the Atonement of Christ and the principles and ordinances of His Gospel. Without saving and redeeming all of mankind first, this "way" would not be relevant to any of us, as we would still be in a state of death with no resurrection, and a state of endless woe being separated from all the heavens and our bodies, and never have the ability to account for our sins in the flesh.
Your doctrines would have me believe that a person "gets saved" through conditions rather than "being saved" as the FREE GIFT to "all" that Paul taught was universally based on grace and not of anything mankind can do; just as death came universally upon all mankind through Adam's transgression. If a free gift required conditions then it isn't a free gift!

    • @adamberkey8880
      @adamberkey8880 8 років тому

Again, your linking the free gift to a condition overlooks Paul's likening of how death and hell fell upon all mankind, the same as how the free gift came upon all mankind and not just those who meet certain conditions (ie, who believe and confess)

Believing and confessing rewards the agency of man in our pursuing the "way" that Jesus proscribes to get to the Father. Without saving mankind universally first, Jesus could not offer mankind "the way" to the Father.

9:23-27 “I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in
all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Well, I do not run aimlessly, I do not box as one beating the air; but I pommel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”
First, notice that St. Paul is not absolutely certain about his own eternal fate at this point in his life, which is early on in his ministry before he is imprisoned in Rome. He believes it to be possible the he himself could be “disqualified” from heaven/eternal life. And then notice that Paul commands Christians to “run” or else they too may not “obtain” heaven and eternal life.
St. John Chrysostom comments thus: “Now this he says, not as though here also one only out of many would be saved; far from it; but to set forth the exceeding diligence which it is our duty to use. For as there, though many descend into the course not many are crowned, but this befalls one only; and it is not enough to descend into the contest, nor to anoint one’s self and wrestle: so likewise here it is not sufficient to believe, and to contend in any way; but unless we have so run as unto the end to show ourselves unblameable, and to come near the prize, it will profit us nothing. For even though thou consider yourself to be perfect according to knowledge, you have not yet attained the whole; which hinting at, he said, ‘so run, that you may
obtain.’ They had not then yet, as it seems, attained…. ‘Lest by any means, having preached to others, I myself should be a rejected.’ Now if Paul feared this who had taught so many, and feared it after his preaching and becoming an angel and undertaking the leadership of the whole world; what can we say? For, ‘think not,’ says he, ‘because you have believed, that this is sufficient for your salvation: since if to me neither preaching nor teaching nor bringing over innumerable persons, is enough for salvation unless I exhibit my own conduct also unblameable, much less to you.'”
