    It’s all in the wet sanding and use 2k gloss clear comes out great also take your time between coats patience is the key if you rush it will shrink and crack and avoid high humidity

    • @FishingWithSalty
      @FishingWithSalty  5 років тому

      Jim Catanzaro all very true the humidity part is hard to avoid in Florida but yes I tried my best.

    You don't any fancy tools scrapers to remove old outboard decals. Wife's blow dryer a little heat get a corner started and steady pull come right off glue and all no mess. Mine were 25 years old came off in seconds. Try it. Not too much heat just a little heat is trick.

    What kind of primer did you use? Also, is it better to apply my new decals on the new paint coat or put it directly on the sanded surface and mask it? Thanks!

      Good job, I'm almost done with one of two cowlings. I'm doing things a bit different from you but there's really no right or wrong way as long as the proper prep work is followed.

    Hi! Your videos are very informative. We are new to boating and purchased a 2007 SeaFox 236wa. This boat has. Couple of items that we cannot figure out how to use. They are the raw water and the fresh water inlets or outlets ( not even sure what they are called. Can you make a video on how to use them please!!

    did you use all 600G for all the layers? would that not scratch the crap out of the actual 2 layers of paint ?. i thought u only use 600g to do the primer then work your way up wet sanding ? like 1st layer of paint 1000g. then 2nd final layer - 1500 / 2000G . then buff and polish the final clear coat layer

      I'm about to refinish a small merc and I have the same concerns about sanding grit. I ended up getting 1, 1.5, and 2k grit. Maybe I should get some lower grit for the initial sanding of blemishes, etc.

    • @FishingWithSalty
      @FishingWithSalty  Рік тому

      It’s better the finer it is as you go for sure

    Hey brother I did this to my engine and it came out great but the clear coat for some reason got stained by the salt and its enough to were it is rough, wondering if your clear coat hasn’t held up well as mine, did 2 even coats and waited over a week. The mid section is full of water stains from just one outting

    Hi ,great job ,l noticed you did not sand down the last top coat before applying the clear coat, did you wait for the top coat to dry or just put it straight on.??

      Kevin Walker I just waited for it to dry and then applied the clearcoat

      @@FishingWithSalty ok, thanks, someone said in another video put the clear coat on while the top coat is still tacky,helps the bond together . But he was much more amateurish. Does it matter do you think.? Also were you not worried about bugs getting attracted to it outside,noticed you went inside for the clear coats.

    Good job aside from that!

    Hi mate, l sprayed my lower unit ,the propellor area. It went great, when l had finished the clear coat and it dried the was was rough overspray,l mean real rough, but can not notice it from a distance. Just touching it. Why did this happen l was about 10 inches away,pretty close was some wind blowing, but l sprayed when it died down. Bought a clay bar could hardly get the overspray off it was so rough. Maybe l should try 2000 grit and then polish and wax. Scared to start taking clear coat away.

      Kevin Walker ya be careful doing that, try to use “the works” toilet bowl cleaner and wax it right after
