Yeah it crossed my mind and in the end, I went with Requiem For a Dream which for the most part is interchangeable. Train Spotting is a solid option though and could have easily been included. You’ve also reminded me to rewatch it as it’s been a long time 👍
Just watched a video from your channel and am taken with the application of philosophy to translate art into a life of greater meaning. As I am recovering from a nasty ear infection today I can't wait to dive into distraction.
If you add chapters to your video, you'll get a stronger 'bump' mark at each movie, and can you that to see which one was interesting to the most people and make a deep dive video on that one. I really liked Whiplash. An old girlfriend of mine complained of a D1 volleyball coach that ruined her love for the sport. The coach sounded like a traumatized child, but after watching Whiplash I realized holy crap her coach was like the jazz teacher. I never imagined that type of type of teacher existed, pushing students to the breaking point to try and make them the best. Completely changed the way I look at that situation.
Thanks man! I add them sometimes but occasionally leave them out in some situations where the context might be lost but maybe I should add them regardless. And yeah, it’s always an interesting ethical question. The discipline and push makes winning more likely in some cases but is it worth the cost when you don’t enjoy the process? 🤷♂️
@@dmorgan There's always infinite things we could do, cant get bogged down. For videos with lists I think it pays off big, so I try to add it on those ones.
Very interesting, and yes I agree! These are excellent representations of human nature. I notice tho, that these are very white male-centric films. I’m curious about your take on other films with more diverse characters.
Yeah that’s a fair question. I didn’t intentionally choose any film or characters where race is particularly central to the narrative (with one exception). Certainly if the list was longer or I wanted to cover different aspects of human nature then it’s very likely other demographics would be the focus. This will definitely be the case anyway in some of my upcoming videos that explore ideas through film and tv
It might seem like an extreme example but it’s also one of the most important for the reasons mentioned in the video. Most people reduce humans down into good and evil but in reality, anyone is capable of doing terrible things in a certain environment and this has happened throughout history
