Magnifico! My favorite part is when Maddie stated that she realized how much she loves the feeling of freedom that the cruising life affords. Steady on mateys...
Sorry to say... Ran Sailing has a totally different looking boat - Najad 440 1st gen. (lovely boat based on the "Van De Stadt like" flush deck design - like the Trintella 44). The one is this video is the 460 (a bigger newer model with more coach roof.) Both in the video are superb cruisers - as RAN is.
A spinnaker on the after mast - OK, I mostly pay attention to Sloop and now cutter rigs but this is new (to me). Queueing for a bridge - they say with sailboats it is always a race, even when the other boat does not know it, I guess trying to cut in line is - natural?
What an awesome crewing experience. You even flew a mizzen ballooner! I haven't seen one of those in a while, most of the boats out there are rigged as sloop-esq variants. No mizzen mast! I loved the videos of Paris and all the sights of Europe, but sailing is why I joined up!
Absolutely gorgeous scenery! Yalls trip looks so fun! Despite the various setbacks the past few months, im glad that y'all got to experience all of this and still are!
Wow! Spectacular scenery on your approach to Ibiza! I've never been there but I have been to Mallorca. Maybe someday........... Great job putting this video together. Thanks for taking us along on this passage!
That is cala conte right? 😀 been there multiple times sunbathing. Hope to arrive there by sailboat one day as well. 🙈 Great Video. Beautiful boats! Thanks for sharing!
What was the argument about at the drawbridge? Good thing Herby is fluent in Spanish. Regarding diesels, I know that the large ocean going ships use bunker fuel for their diesels and it burns very dirty. It's basically a tar like sludge containing lots of toxic sulphur. Electric is much better for the environment, though not as convenient obviously.
The guy behind us was very drunk and pissed that we were waiting for the bridge back there (because there were other boats ahead of us). He wanted to go on by and go through before the bridge opened. I said some things that were along the line of: “the bridge is closed but if you think you can make it through with your mast up give it a try”
Yall are sailing along at a pretty good clip. Love it. Miss it. Going to help a friend move his boat a pretty good distance after these storms leave....again! Tropical storm warning here, Hurricane warning in NOLA!
@@RiggingDoctor I've decided to head back to the UK rather than risk getting stuck in Spain or Portugal. I'll overwinter in a nice quiet anchorage and head off again in the spring. I guess you'll be back in the US by then. I 'may' head to the Caribbean in November '21...
First! Do I win something? Didn't think so...LOL So, not only do you get to see what it's like to sail like Delos (Amel) but, you also get to see what it's like to sail like Ran Sailing (Najad). Very cool episode.
Having subscribed to your channel as well as Uma and Beau & Brandy, nobody talks much about the limitations of electric power. I was surprised when Dan lamented how much their original electric motor sucked, but he didn't speak out until after he installed the new OceanVolt. So I've been wondering about the virtues of having a diesel. (Admittedly, I didn't watch much of the electric motor symposium -- aka The Dan Show. Now I'll make myself watch it.) Having a diesel engine is looking better and better!
@@RiggingDoctor Good to know. I imagine I'd be continually fearful of running out of juice. I'll look for others of your videos (I'm a recent subscriber) that might address the issue. I don't remember seeing a wind turbine on Wisdom. They seem rare in general. I hear they're loud when at anchor, but on the open sea they sound like a good idea. What do you think?
We find them to be too loud. I would suggest checking out our “electric motor” playlist. We talk extensively about the drawbacks of electric. The main ones are not being strong enough to fight currents and not being able to make deadlines. It really depends on your flexibility and free time.
@@RiggingDoctor I would think electric makes you a better pure sailor having to be aware of the wind and tides and not reliant on motoring when the going gets tough. The fact is the Earth is warming from burning processed oil products and you both seem to be environmentally aware. If you can deal with the negatives of electric propulsion it's for sure cleaner. Once battery technology improves it will be comparable to diesel one day.
Uma is very non-objective on many aspects of their choices imho. It brings in more patron $$$ to spin everything positively yet that steps over into being fake and romanticized. So gotta take a lot of their videos with a huge bag of rock sea salt.
Maybe your plans are still to return to the U.S. but imho better to avoid the U.S. and nearby areas completely until at least the end of 2021. The U.S. is a disaster on multiple levels.
Ran II is a 440 not a 460. I'd love to own either of them, their gorgeous.
Enjoyed the video even though I was expecting some sort of comparison between the two boats.
You took the words right out of my mouth. Was expecting some tech, pros and cons. These two are up there on my favorite boat list.

Ah! We’ve never actually watched them. We were just told that it was the same boat. Thanks for the feedback!
love it, whats the instrumental music please?
I'd never seen a spinnaker on an aft mast before. But why not? Never too old to learn

I wizzed through but didn’t here any comparison between the boats as the title says ?
It was more of a race between the two boats. We each sailed on a different boat and left at the same time for an overnight passage to Ibiza

15:15 BEANS ON TOAST ! National breakfast of .. somewhere I forget, in England perhaps.

Yes you got it! Such a beautiful place
Again a really nice episode. The 2 boats sailing together was wonderful. Thanks
Do I see a major party foul at 10:08 ?
The luffing sail?

@@RiggingDoctor you tell him Herb! 😁
That is beautifully clear water. I want to dive in! Fantastic video w/both your prospectus. I was hoping you would show that!
Gosh, such an expensive boat and such a small bottle of HP sauce, someone hasn't got their priorities right.
Ibiza is a beautiful destination: crystal clear seas and balmy breezes.

Hmm. Herb & Maddy--Didn't the Radio work? 😜
Yeah, but it’s loud down below for those trying to sleep
Very good. Matt's breakfast to die for! How did he do toast at sea?
I think he had a toaster that ran off an inverter! I used to make toast in a dry frying pan but this stuff was delicious!!
Beautiful boat sailing with her spinnaker full and proud. I knew there was a reason for all that work...food and liquor. Oh my.
Did I detect a bit of diesel envy there Herby?😉 😂
Not when I was working on it constantly! Haha

@@RiggingDoctor Yes, very nice boat. Wish I could afford one. Malin and Johan sold Ran, got the Najad (Ran II) in late 2019/very early 2020.

We honestly much prefer the electric! It has limitations, but it works for our very specific lifestyle choice

English and Spanish fluently, and a bit of Portuguese
