MILLION CARAT DIAMONDS ALONG JOKULSARLON BLACK SAND BEACH (and they're free!)

- Diamonds everywhere! Million carat diamonds! Dan and Chelle walk out onto the black sand shores at Jökulsárlón onto Diamond Beach, which has it's name for very obvious reasons! There are diamonds everywhere! Big ones, small ones, perfectly clear ones, blue ones! Okay, so they're not really diamonds, but you could've fooled us! Just up from the beach is a massive glacier that feeds into Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and out into the ocean, where chunks of ice come crashing back to shore and made clear and smooth by the constant crashing of waves. Dan and Chelle admire the ice for awhile, spot some seals swimming up river, and then head across the street to Nailed It Fish and Chips for a little, warm snack! They head over to view the lagoon and watch chucks of ice flowing down the river and out into open waters, and also explore the epic glacier Fjallsarlon! Afterwards they head back south towards Vik, but stop to try and find one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland! They hit the trail and pass numerous waterfalls as they make their way back to the epic waterfall Svartifoss! The jagged black rocks surrounding the serene waterfall are definitely a sight to see! They head back to their Airbnb, grabbing some noodles from Wok on Vik on the way.
After we filmed this video, we received what would be the first of many texts, voice calls and video calls over the next two days. We found out Chelle's dad had possibly suffered from a mild stroke and may need to be hospitalized. Not knowing the severity of the situation, we ultimately decided we needed to get home as soon as possible. The next morning we hit the road back to Reykjavik, but couldn't get a flight home until the next day. We were grateful to at least have been able to move our flight up to the next day, but were incredibly anxious to get home. As updates continued to come through, we prepared ourselves to have to say our final goodbyes to Chelle's dad. Our focus shifted from not just getting home, but getting home before he passed on. They were the longest, hardest, saddest days we've both experienced in our lives. We are so grateful to have arrived at the hospital around midnight to be with family and say our goodbye and we love you to a truly wonderful man.

I still can’t stop from tearing up when I think about your dad. It is truly amazing God’s timing on everything. Your dad obviously lived a full life, raised some wonderful children, ministered to hundreds if not thousands of people, came home after finishing all his missions and traveled with his family. He lived out a great life the only sad part is after building your mom and his forever home God took him home to be with his savior to prepare for all to be together again someday. I empathize because my mothers passing was similar she devoted her entire life to doing away with segregation in the university systems and was a year from retirement only to pass away from cancer rather suddenly December 14. It’s been 18 years but the hurt is still so new. Much love and prayers to you and your family.

Thank you for taking us along on your adventures, so sorry you had to cut this trip short, and so thankful you were able to get home to see Chelle's dad before he passed. My heartfelt sympathy for your loss. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.

Thanks for sharing the rest of your beautiful trip videos before the bottom fell out of Chelle's world. I can only imagine the panic and anxiousness as you two try to get home in time. .I was on prayer mode..had no heard what had exactly happened...but knew something had happened when couldn't get..Branden's, Justin's, Jared's vlogs..knew it must be bad...thought accident.. Wasn't sure which member..as you two,Sean, and Justin and Lindsey were out of state/ country.
Chelle and Dan, thank you for sharing this last Iceland video, I wondered when it was going to end, knowing, of course, what we all now know. I am so sorry for the loss of Doug-papa-dad, but glad you got to be there for his passing. Your family bond is incredible, there is strength in numbers.

I visited Iceland in July 2018 and it was incredible. I loved watching your videos and seeing some of the same locations but in winter. I was only there for 3 days or so (I went with a youth orchestra to tour and we went to Scotland first) so I didn't get a chance to see all of the amazing places you two went to. I love watching your travel vlogs and living vicariously through you guys haha
I’m still at a loss for words when it comes to your dad. I loss my dad 22 years ago on December the 13th. And lost my mom on October the 16th of last year. You will never forget them or the pain. You just learn to live without them here. My heart hurts for your mom. Give her a big hug from all of us! Praying for each and everyone of y’all. What a Blessing to see so much of this world!!! I’m Icelandic and Dan did amazing pronouncing the names (one of the best international that I have heard to pronounce the hard Icelandic names). And also I recommend that if you go back to Iceland to visit Skálholtskirkja (church) it is in the golden circle and it is open every day from 9am - 6pm and the windows are so freaking beautiful.

We had to fly family in from all over too. But we didn’t have anyone as far away as Iceland. When the last brother arrived dad said “my boys are all here”❤️ Thank you for being so brave in sharing all this. You never realize how faith heals families. Heals your own family and heals others by your example walking the family with family. I just want to tell you public grief is hard but your Dads legacy is part of this. And you all are so wonderful at your examples as you honor him in your channels.❤️🙏😇 Watching this on Day 1 of new year. As you said “see you on our next adventure”. I'm happy you were able to say goodbye. My grandmother and my husband's father both died unexpectedly and suddenly. My husband's father died when my husband was 13. His youngest brother was 6 months. It sounds like your dad had a full life and he didn't plan to leave anytime soon. We just never know what God's plan is for us. Best wishes to your family. Have you been to Denmark in the spring? I have TRULY ENJOYED every bit of your ADVENTURE in Iceland. My son, and his then-wife, thought about going to Iceland a few years ago. And my thought was "why would you EVER want to go to a place as cold as Iceland? All there would be to see is Glaciers! Well, I was schooled by both of you as you showed so much of your trip, from waterfalls to fantom waves on the black sands. Is the black sand have something to do with Volcanos? You didn't mention Volcanos but Iceland seemed to have something exciting around every corner. That bubble you stayed in was not for the OLD-IN-HEART! But you guys made it so intriguing! Hot pools, churches on the side of the road the U.S. plane that crash-landed. But my favorite was the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. When I was about 10-12, I was at my cousin's home west of Blackfoot, Idaho. We were sleeping out on the trampoline and I looked at what I thought was the east and saw every color in the rainbow dancing in the sky! My 1st thought was, the Lord is coming back. We SCREAMED to my Aunt and Uncle and my Aunt, knowing so much about the sky, stars, and Aurora Borealis, explained it all to us! And ever since, I've wished to show them to my husband. We use to live in Idaho Falls and Rigby but probably not dark enough. We've been in northern Oregon right along the Columbia River since 2016 and we've hoped to have more of a chance but still, no luck. So how happy I was to see your footage. I'm going to let my 42 yo son know of your channel so he can get a taste of your photography. He's working on being a professional, and I think he could learn tons from both of you!
Also, I'm so so SORRY and SADDENED by the loss of your dear Dad, Chelle! I watched the funeral on UA-cam. From what I got to see and know of him and your Mom, my love for them both became strong. I loved your family going to the grave together just before Christmas. I send my ❤ LOVE ❤ and condolences to your wonderful Mom & You. Thanks for all you share. I travel through your eyes and lens! That was a good history lesson. The airport you landed in was built with a lot of help from America as a WWII base. If you don't know the wind on the Westmann islands is the windiest place in all of Europe. It's funny because of the seasons - in summer it's 24 hrs of sunlight, and you can be driving home at 11PM in full sun.
