I laughed when you were talking about not adjusting the upper thread tension. You're spot on man, I don't adjust mine that much either and often doesn't make a huge difference. Solid job!
@@GentStyle well it changes the tension of the stitch but most of the garments I work with are the same, I only change it if I'm working with thicker stuff like denim. BTW what a time to be alive. Great introduction to the sewing machine Robert. It can be intimidating at first but with practice, it can be a real money saver! I'm still learning to use mine.
I'm COOKED if all the people saying this is the best video they've seen are right....cuz this made no sense. I'm more clueless than I was before I watch this
Lol it felt like a UA-cam tutorial from someone who had just watched a UA-cam tutorial on how to use a sewing machine. Tbh though it’s kind of what I wanted - a quick spin around the machine. I don’t need to know the names, just need to know without any precision which hook things the thread needs to go through.
This video has helped me a lot! I am starting to work on historical costuming for my own pleasure and i had forgotten how to work a sewing machine (i had not used one since i was in middle school) and now i am rolling with my own as easy as breathing. Thank you ♡
Thank you for the great refresher! It's been years since I've used a sewing machine, and I'm prepping for a new project. I love your approach to making videos. You're funny and knowledgeable at the same time. Thank you!!!
Bro, your video is by far the best. I've come across. I'm still looking for more information. Maybe your video is good enough. But we've all the other videos out there with all there gas fillers. Or air fillers, thank you. I'm making it clear and simple to the point I guess that's what men are good at
I have a different but very similar Brother Sewing machine, so I need to adjust a few things but this is the best video I’ve seen! Sir, I’ve been struggling with my machine for 2 days now and you’re a life saver!
I found your channel looking for reviews on this machine so that I can tailor my own clothing. This video is perfect, I placed an order for the gray one. Can’t wait to get started.
Great video! I'm considering buying one but have always been intimidated by the complexity of threading the dang thing. This is the 3rd Brother XM 1010 sewing machine video I've watched and yours is, by far, the best. Kudos!
Thanks man. I've always been intrigued by sewing machines. Mum used to have one and now, thanks to you, I know how to thread one up and get it happening. Thank you!
No its hard for you when you threat but is because you miss one part Right before getting to the needle Theres is something above the neddle where you also need to slide you theat Thats why you have a hard time.
I just happened to have a different model of this sewing machine and I don’t know exactly how to use it but this is definitely a good way to figure out!
Hi, just bought the machine and I am very new in sewing. Can't manage the speed of this machine. Is there any option or technique to lower the speed for the beginners like I m. Thanks a lot
The bobbin has to be put in so it moves counter clockwise and there is a piece ubove the neddle were the thread goes through before you thread the needle
I was going to say that too. There is a thread guide he missed before threading the needle. He also missed the thread cutter on the bobbin thread channel, and he didn't mention the difference between bobbin winding and normal use on the thread guide on top of the machine. Finally, the tension for the top thread dictates whether the top thread gets pulled to the bottom, the bottom thread gets pulled to the top, or you have even top and bottom stitches. Look for a video on adjusting thread tension on sewing machine. He obviously didn't watch the DVD that came with the machine that is way better than what he did. I don't even know why this video exists as it is just an incomplete version of the video that came with the machine.
Are you using a different sewing foot than the zig zag that came with the machine? i just purchased the clear brother one bc I was having issues getting the straight stitch to work on the default one.
Make sure you have the machine threaded correctly. If the thread isn’t ran through the proper places on the machine, it will cause it to bunch when sewing.
I am sorry, Ive never used a sewing machine in my life and my aunt bought this for me to learn but you lost me on this. I got the thread through the needle but what do you do with the rest of the thread that came out the other side?
The more I rewatch this video, the more I think my machine's broken. I have the same model, but it will not pull thread from the bobbin, even after rethreadomg several times.
@@georgemanlol3028 the overwhelming number of comments and likes on this video. This sewing machine has numerous images on it to show how to wind the thread.

When setting up, the thread needs to go behind the little catch above the needle
Also, never turn the needle backwards. Only towards you
Would it break turning it backwards?
How do you change the bulb in the sewing machine compartment.

Hi, just bought the machine and I am very new in sewing. Can't manage the speed of this machine. Is there any option or technique to lower the speed for the beginners like I m. Thanks a lot
Think of the pedal as the gas pedal on a car. If you floor it, it will go fast. Just ease on the gas!
Every time I sew it will either skip stitch like it’s not sewing and Idk if I’m not picking up the thread right or sum
Make sure you have the thread going through the proper channels.
Try moving your tension of the thread.....usually 3-5 is best
I have this same machine and I’m having the same issue
question: do you have to do this all the time when you have a different thread?
This was wonderful, thank you
Thank you. One suggestion, maybe next time use black thread so we can see it better
This was so useful thank you !!

How do you know which pattern selection stitch types are for heavy cloth, compared to lighter cloth?
Can you tell me why my bobbin thread gathers at times and also the needle unthreads. New to sewing so need a lot of guidance. Thanks. its a 3817
Make sure your thread tension is 0!
you need to have excess thread from the needle and bobbin when u start and finish your stitch.
Amazing 🤩

Does the machine stop the thread going to the bobbin? How does it or we know when there's enough thread?

what is the point of the bobbin if you just use the thread from the top
I am sorry, Ive never used a sewing machine in my life and my aunt bought this for me to learn but you lost me on this. I got the thread through the needle but what do you do with the rest of the thread that came out the other side?
