People who don’t appreciate Honda will always complain. Honda is built right here in the USA 🇺🇸 not Mexico. American cars are better here and made period . I can’t complain because I really appreciated the technology behind every Honda product. Honda is Honda and they don’t care about competition and they shouldn’t. I love my Honda Pilot 2022 . It’s not designed for totally off road but in the circumstances snows or mud I was very surprised.

Sorry you guys blew it. You didn’t test it anywhere its limits and then without any evidence decide that it can’t handle much of anything. I disagree. I have a 2021 Ridgeline which is mechanically identical and I hit deep muddy ruts pulling a 4000 trailer and the AWD system was amazing. Pulled right through. Mud up to the wheels and the trailer was coated with mud. As an aside, I do wish it had more ground clearance. I added 3 aftermarket skid plates.
So this case, you blew it. Next time if you have a negative review on a vehicle, have a solid reason, not just an opinion or guess.

All of these “Cuvs” are basically slightly lifted minivans. But marketing means you’re cool in one vs a minivan that is uncool.

If you put some real offroad tires on they do okay. Even Toyota puts weak tires on the TRD Pro as opposed to a TA K02 or a Toyo offroad tire. I have seen one of these sunk in mud get out with the Goodrich TA K02s so they're more than a soccer mom van in the rough but no rock crawler..

Ok, so.....we have a 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD. Pull a 16ft trailer with 4 four wheelers. One Yamaha Raptor, and 3 Recons. Or the Honda Pioneer, and two wheelers. We either go to Turkey Bay at LBL, or the Hack Shack, Painville Ky. Getting to the Shack is super rough! The Pilot had ZERO problems doing it, with over 120k miles. We literally just traded it in today for the 2022 Trailsport Pilot. I've owned a 2007 Ridgeline, highly recommend as well!!

To give you an idea of the limits of this vehicle, I did Potash/Shafer trail in Moab recently in my 2019 Honda Pilot LX AWD. That trail used to be considered easy by most people before the floods of 2022. Now the trail has deep ruts and shelves. It pushed my Pilot to its limits ground clearance wise but the AWD system was surprisingly good. The Pilot hardly spun a wheel throughout the entire 19 mile trail. I also own a Subaru and I would take the Pilot AWD over the Subie any day.
I did replace the All-Season factory tires before my trip with Falcon Wildpeak AT Trail and they are amazing both on and offroad. Slightly less MPG over stock tires but well worth the investment.

Try watching Sarah-n-tuned sometime to see how an unbiased review should be made. Spoiler alert, the Ridgeline easily went up the same steep hill that some 4x4s could not.

this video was surprisingly biased, I expected better from TK, he's usually more even keeled. Here he sounds like that b1tch Roman from TFL. EVERYBODY knows that it is not a Bronco or 4Runner, but yet they still seem to hold that against it. I'm going to make a channel where I test "sport" trims of body on frame trucks and SUVs on the race track and ask, "Is it worthy of the Sport name"?

  • @PlasmadaeDal

I completely agree. We bought a 2021 Black Edition new, and everything I saw here looks pretty much the same as ours function wise (different tires and accenting of course). These are not meant to be heavy-duty off roaders or taking them overlanding, but as you demonstrated, they are excellent to be able to get out of most more aggressive situations as long as there is clearance. The torque vectoring is awesome, and as far as power, this Pilot has plenty for its class. These are also excellent in snow, and so far no issues getting stuck or losing control! Back to the power...after owning it a year, I finally learned the proper way to drive it...In Sport Mode! If you floor the gas pedal, you will not believe the sound coming out of the engine! It's fast too for its size and in sport mode, kinda fun to drive! It's actually a fantastic engine, and a major reason we got the Pilot, and I Looked at all SUVs out there.
Honda just needed to keep the Pilot name relevant until the redesign is out end of this year, because the design is taking no risks at all and definitely looks like a family vehicle...it's not bad tho, and has aged pretty well I think considering how long its been out, but i like the boxy design best. I am hoping the redesign is more boxy and aggressive. My only reservation about getting the new one, is I'm afraid it won't have a bluray player. This Pilot comes with one and is SUCH a selling feature to keep the family entertained on long road trips, which this car does easily once we add a storage box on top (bullet billwe call it). Great family car, just dated on exterior design, but amazing for the purpose it was intended.

Clearly they just don't like Hondas. Sure, Trail sport is marketing but the i-VTM 4 system is pretty great and provides good low end torque for a vehicle without true 4-LO or a locking differential. Reliability can't be beat, either.

9:04 but the thing with the Subarus, they are mechanically different than the normal ones, lift, shorter ratios ect. The Pilot... Has slightly more aggressive tires. And that's it. I'm ok with off-road packages, as long as it actually offers something more than the normal ones. Imo, just swapping tires doesn't.

Question: How do automakers measure ground clearence? My Maverick FX4 with the standard size tire is rated at 8.3" yet my front bumper sits the lowest at 7 and change inches. If Ford was legit I probably would have less battle scars. Just feel like it's disappointing.

    • @rovekimp
      @rovekimp 2 роки тому +4

Ground clearance on a vehicle should be the lowest point on the body (not including suspension, wheel hub, etc.) but I've seen some people measure from the jack points. Which I feel is misleading, because most vehicles will start hitting elsewhere first when their clearance is tested, eg. the bumper, exhaust, engine components.

The thing I liked most was Howard's Tee shirt. Kind of looks like the punisher. This is a nice SUV but a real 4WD is much better...4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra. Honda just offers soft off roaders. The brand should attempt making a serious off roader. They are a great auto maker and have the know how. They could borrow their ATV knowledge and marry it to a real 4WD truck or SUV.

  • @trailrunnah8886

Definitely agree with Howard and Steve. This is the (not a) minivan. And it's just not a cool looking vehicle. It looks comfortable though, prob a great daily or road tripper. While the off-road capability doesn't compare, it's probably a lot more comfortable and nicer to drive than my 4Runner. The Pilot may have some off-road potential though. There is a UA-camr that has the Passport version of this, with 3.5" lift, skid plates, and good tires. It's actually quite impressive what he's able to do with that.

The more aggressive tires reduce the fuel efficiency so the clever marketing team gave this trim an appropriate name to placate persnickety consumers. Maybe a moot point considering the Pilot's big, bulbous rear end.
