I have been searching for the right heels since the beginning of 2019. I could never really find a video that could help me find the right type nor size. I tried several heels the last six months but none of them truly were good for my feet. Thank you so much!
I am an artist and dancer, and I love dancing, and I'm getting used to walking in heels. I'd love to start dancing in heels, which is why I appreciate you giving these tips. Thank you!! Keep dancing!
Hey Gaylyn, I have a jazz, ballet, and Latin dance background but started taking heels class the last year or so. I've been doing heels in Latin ballroom shoes and not really liking it. Tried some clunky heels, also not great. You really break it down, so thank you for the tips:)
So glad I could help! My review of Burju Shoes may also be a good video for you if you’re looking to change your shoes. They’re designed by a Latin dancer but she’s changed them up a bit to modernize them for heels classes. Hope it helps 🤗💙
Glad I could help! I post new videos every weekend and I have a few other videos on dancing in heels if you want to check them out. Enjoy your first class! 🤗❤️
I’m not a professional dancer but I can dance pretty well but I could never figure it out in heels all I can do in heels is a good shoulder lean lol thanx for the tips!
I looked absolutely everywhere to get a good pair heels to start and I finally did! Thank you for this informative video and cant wait to practice in them
Thank you so much for this! I was about to do literally everything you say not to do. I'm also coming from a ballet background, and I want to get into heels dancing because it seems kind of similar to what I'm used to.
I’ve been wearing a random heel that I had and I wanted to know what I was supposed to be wearing. Turns out my heels check every box you mentioned. Talk about lucky.
@@GaylynLareese welp, you have just gained a new subscriber. It's about your energy and the way you deliver information. Thank you so much once again, and hope we can all learn from each other 💖
Thank you for this video Gaylyn. It was great! Would you mind posting URL links to online shops or shoe sellers that have heels that would be appropriate to dance in.
Thank you so much for explaining this! Question, is it OK if I don't go with open toe shoes? Meaning everything you suggested but the tip... I was in a dance class yesterday and the teacher and one of the most advance dancer had open toe shoes but I don't know if that makes dance easier
Carolina B Hey! It’s totally up to your personal preference. I have wide feet so I like my toes to have a bit of space but if you are comfortable in closed toed shoes then go for it! I find it hard to point my feet and create nice lines with pointed toed shoes but again, dancers’ preference. Hope this helps!
the way i found this video AFTER i took my first heels class...in a thick heeled shoe lmfaooaoaoaoaooa OOPS. and it was difficult to dance in but i have learned now!
Elana K I don’t really pick based on the store, I pick based on the shoe. My last two have actually been from Charlotte Russe funny enough. I like mine to be functional but also unique. Just go somewhere that has shoes in your price range and then see if they have any that fit your requirements like size, ankle stability, stiletto heel. That’s how I decide. Hope that helps ☺️
@@GaylynLareese Thank you, Gaylyn!! Your content is SO needed and you are very thorough. Two more questions 🙂 1. With open-toed heels, is there a way to prevent broken toe nails (even if they are short)? I’ve found my toe nails are damaged (without me noticing) from the floor impact after every heels class. 2. What style of dance do you recommend for someone who desires to improve the foundations of dance and connection with their body, balance, fast & slow execution? I’m thinking of taking another class in addition to heels. I appreciate your feedback!
Would you still recommend stilettos for someone just starting to take heels class? I’d love to wear a stiletto but to me honest they scare the crap out of me as someone with multiple past ankle sprains lol
Hey! I would never encourage you to do something that makes you uncomfortable. If you do decide to wear chunky heels, give yourself a deadline for when you want to be comfortable in stilettos. Chunky heels really can hold you back if you get too comfortable wearing them, but it’s better to start feeling confident so you can focus on the choreo.
My question is if you have a open toe and open heel shoe would it be best to have your exact size as the ones I have fit me exact and if they were any smaller my heel would be too big and hang off the back off the heel? However when dancing in them gradually they make my feet slip a tad bit... is it normal for your feet to naturally slip forward in your correct size?
is it normal to be hearing a noise each time i dance in heels it makes me paranoid each time. Like if my foot is too heavy for the movement. Great video btw!
If the noise is coming from your shoes, it just means the material your shoe is made from is stretching. Just make sure the shoe is secure around your ankle. You may just have some creeky shoes 🙂
Hi Gaylyn I have a question about this. I am a size 10.5 and bought a pair of dance heels that are a size 9. My right foot is slightly smaller than my left so the right foot is snug but the left foot is a bit too tight. With the 9.5 dance shoe, my right foot was a little loose and my left foot was snug. In between having one too tight foot or one slightly loose, which is the lesser of two evils? Thank you so much.
Make sure your heels are lace ups so that you can pull them tighter if necessary. You also may want I look into brands that make heels specifically for dancers like Burju shoes. They do custom orders and typically the correct size is your street shoe size when you order from them because of the extra padding.
Can u do a video on the best ways to stretch for heels class/becoming flexible
Jala Jackson Oh yeah sure! I have one old stretch video on my channel but I’ll do another specifically for heels class
This is right on time! And the only video I could find like this. Thank you.
You’re welcome! Glad I could help🤗

The tips helped a lot, but where exactly do you purchase the recommended dance heel?
They're frum burju shoes. Even Nicole Kirkland uses their shoes when dancing. Seems like alot of dancers use this brand

Hi awesome vid. Question. Is this also applicable for someone who is more.orotund or a wee bit overweight women like me?
Absolutely! All of this has more to do with how your feet are shaped and built and less to do with weight🤗
Awesome content! Do you recommend closed or open toed heel?
Open 😊

Totally normal for them to slip a bit. Wear what size works best for you🙂
checking this just to find shoes I can safely walk in. shoes put out these days are horrible construction

I am a dancer I have never tried performing with heels. I want to perform with heels my shoe size is 9 where will I get such size of heels
I would say if the snug fit isn’t super uncomfortable, go with it. If the shoe is open toed it will stretch a bit over time and won’t feel as tight.
2:46 original footage?
What name is heel
What if I am already in the smallest size ..?
Make sure your heels are lace ups so that you can pull them tighter if necessary. You also may want I look into brands that make heels specifically for dancers like Burju shoes. Shot this with a canon T5i. It’s a good starter camera for UA-cam. I have since upgraded to a Sony a6400

A half size smaller? Shit my feet are gonna be in pain!
Then it’s official. I don’t have dancing shoes
