- This clock is a piece that I have had my eye on for some time. I thought it would be fun to see if I could make it using Dollar Tree items. One day I will remake it on real wood so it will be more durable, but for now I love how it looks. I just it using a piece of twine and command strips. Also, there are many different ways that you can place the letters. Mine are the way they are because that’s how the clock is that I was recreating. Some say that they are upside down, but there are a ton of clocks that look like this.

This came out beautiful!!! Just wanted to give you a tip because I use A LOT OF foam board and those project boards to make bigger diys if you coat it with mod podge it makes them harder and they don't bulge!!! Just a tip!!!

What a show stopper! (If you make a clock again, it's easier to use the clock hands - once attached to the base to figure out the number placement.) Great job!

I think I'll try to make a paper mache version of this. Paper mache, sanded, gives a beautiful smooth surface that paints beautifully. You can even go over it with a thin coat of paper clay mix and use a wood grain brayer or texture stamp . I already have the wood grain brayer ( cost me about $20 but I've used it for a ton of projects). But overall the cost should be about the same in my case. The folds in the cardboard bothered me but this is a fantastic idea. I already have one made from wood pallet planks I love to bits but it's super heavy to hang & my friend, an apt dweller, wants one more lightweight. This will be her birthday present.

This is a beautiful project, the only thing I would have done differentlyis that I would have drawn the "planks" parallel to the folds in the cardboard. Running the lines parallel to the folds would have made them less visible.
Thank you! Yeah I kind of went back and forth with how I should have it laid out. If I would have had it the other way, you would have been able to see the huge seam in the center where I taped it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out :)

That's a great idea! I wanted to see if I could make it out of something from Dollar Tree, but I think I may get a piece of wood and make another one. I love it so much so I want it to last for a long time!

I’m a collector of clocks. We have probably 60-70 in our home. Our living room is a room of clocks. This turned out beautiful! Fun fact - have you ever noticed that some clocks have the 4 in Roman numerals as IIII instead of IV? I looked up why this is done and the reason they gave was so that it matches, in size, the VIII directly across from it. Isn’t that wild? I had never noticed until someone pointed it out to me and now I see it all the time.
I did notice that! When I was looking up the roman numerals, I noticed that and I also noticed that some of them weren't upside down either. I decided to make it just like the one I was trying to recreate, but there definitely are some options!
This is amazing, I’ve been trying to find a clock for my kitchen wall since forever but I’ve not found any unique ones that I like so I decided I’m going to make my own, I’m doing research and came across your vid, thanks to yu I don’t have to buy a whole clock just to get the mechanisms 😂 can’t believe I never thought of the parts being sold separate🤦♀️ anyway thanks for sharing this vid, I love your clock😊

Two things 1) In am not fond of those folds ...even seems like clock isn't flat because of them. Does it lay flat against wall? 2) I think the numerals that include a "v" are upside down on your clock? Maybe it's me...but I thought when you look at it's face they would be in correct position for reading 6:10 for example. Sorry should of posted my likes first! Color great. Decision to dupe was cool! Even love the wood look ship lap design. Curious how you hung it up..? Is there a place on the clock part to do that? Good job explaining step by step too!😊
It does lay flat, I hung it with twine and then added some command strips. And as far as the letters, I was going off the piece that I found online and that’s how those were placed. I think it can go either way ☺️

Cheap But Chic DIYs There are many different variations on how to place the letters. I was going off the piece I was trying to recreate and that’s how they were placed. I love how it looks! Thanks so much for watching 🥰
Good job, clever, one thing your Roman numerals go the other way, the V’s should be like this one, hee hee. Hard when you don’t use them everyday. Otherwise great piece.
If you look at the original l e the Roman numerals are like that it just flows better the way it is because they actually are all going the same way 😉 I made one out of wood and I painted on Roman numerals and I did them the same way
This RN runs on the DT you are right, seems everyone makes them upside down. It should be IIV V since that’s the way the are read lol must be creative license, you did a great job nonetheless

Oh! I made the same clock also using wooden dowels for the numbers. I also considered poking holes and using twine in straight lines, because I suck at drawing straight lines, lol. The only thing different I did was use 4 foam boards, because I didn't want the seam from those folds. yours came out really nice though so now I wish I had because it would have been a little cheaper haha. I also cut thin strips of poster board, painted it to match and glued them on the edges because when you stood you could see on the side of the wall that it was cardboard thin. How is yours working out that way? Can you tell from the side view? I was wondering about the foam board you used on the back lifting it off the wall. Great job though! Love it!
You can definitely tell when you get super close on the sides. I may make another one with actual wood...I really just wanted to see if I could make one to look like wood! It was fun to make .
@@WendiLee I just noticed I wrote poster board. I meant I made them out of 4 FOAM BOARDS, then edged with poster board. Try going to Lowes if you have one near you. They are sooo generous about giving out free wood. They give away their pallet wood all the time, and bad cuts or wood that is a little off. Home Depot does not do this. I always try to patronize Lowes more for this reason.
@@WendiLee this is how I'm going to make my clock next time. Pallet wood. all you do is wash it with soap and water and let it dry in the sun. It is already rustic and distressed enough. Might dry brush a little white paint but other than that, this wood is good to go!
