  • This year the Caribbean experienced its most destructive hurricane season in decades. While large countries dominated the headlines, the small island nation of Dominica suffered the worst devastation it has ever seen. Josh Toussaint-Strauss visits his family in the country and asks, with next year forecast to be worse, how Dominicans see their future

A most insightful film. I've just returned from seeing family in Dominica- my heart also sank as I viewed the denuded, once lush landscape. There is an enormous job to do to re-build. Thank God my family we're ok. There is of course collective trauma and pain for those who were lost. Despite the circumstances I was most impressed with how well turned out the people were, especially taking the best care of their children- and getting on with daily life. I applaud them for their resilience.

Beautiful piece on our beautiful island. One year later we're still holding on and moving forward with strength and with true Dominican spirit.

That question he keeps asking “If this keeps happening would Dominica be able to rebuild?”, why is that relevant?

Come on Dominica, you guys have to upgrade your building codes, no more wood, no more zinc roofing...Sustainable development is the only way forward
