The Bangalore launch of this book features Ramachandra Guha, Menaka Guruswamy, Grace Banu and Achal Prabhala engaging in a discussion with the author.

Your Caste Matters is creating History in whole country, especially into the so called civilised society. Every experience and the events you mentioned are symbolically society's stigma.
The Caste has damaged even the savarnas is opening their eyes.
I would say Caste Matters is expansion of what Great Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar has pointed out in his Historic research " The Caste In India...."

CASTE is european concept and NOT a Hindu concept, Hindus had Varna/Jati system.

CASTE is a Portuguese word for discrimination on groups of people based on breeds.... slavery, racism..etc.
Varnas are occupational groups like a company has so does a society
Accountants, labour, management, security, .etc
Jatis are parental lineages and ancestry for marriages to avoid incestus relationships....
Those occupations like accountant, security, labour, management were practiced hierarchically based on their birth, right? Priest's son will become priest, army's son will become army, labourer's son will become labourer etc etc ..... that's why it was called caste system, if there was enough freedom among them so they could choose their profession as per their will , we could call it Varna system. By the way, it does not matter wherever you call it , in the past people didn't have freedom of occupation which oppressed the people working at the bottom, even today in villages this system is practiced which is a social evil.

Don't know whether IISC professors are only nurturing Brahmins as Suraj said. Pure sciences are not so desired by most as its not so lucrative ... if they get a bright and interested student from any caste, I am sure they would nurture him.
I am a PhD student in an IIT, in pure science. Once our department's admin shared the caste breakup in our dept out of ignorance
Out of 46 students
40 are general category
4 are OBC
and 1 is SC i.e. me
no ST no Minority.
A similar trend is across IITs. Recent survey showed, out of approx 6300 profs in IITs around India, only 149 belong to SC and SCs are 20% of India's population. IIMs are even worse.

@@osculocentric I had similar experiences not once but multiple times. So, never ever think that this was out of ignorance. It is intentional and out of arrogance with utmost contempt for Dalits. They are terrified of Dalits breaking chains and dong PHDs and performing well in academics.
Did you notice that they are doing away with % and bringing in grading system in school? Put all performing students in groups and cherry pick the suvaranas. This, after privatizing all Govt institutions.

@Siddhartha dash why not, dalits have to face racial discrimination everyday and also they've been pushed in useless quarrel even if they have nothing to do with it. It's rather better for dalits to have a separate country so they can progress and live a better life.
