  • I’ve gone ahead and used three 100w solar panels to charge three 100ah Renogy Gel Batteries that run power through a three thousand wt sine wave inverter that runs my eight thousand BTU window AC. I am not a professional or expert in any way, but that's what makes this so awesome, it means anyone can do this!
    Items I have Used:
    Three 100w Solar Panels (Random)
    Three Renogy 12V 100AH - amzn.to/3K8gFMx
    One Renogy 60A 12V MPPT Solar Charge - amzn.to/3uT1cK6
    3000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter - amzn.to/3u7YBg1
    If anyone wants to help support me, shoot me a message! Or if any company wants me to review anything, let me know!

    300 watt solar panel isn't charging your battery fast enough to keep up with the draw from the AC, that's why you need 3 batteries.. up your solar panel to 600+ watt and you can run all day with just 1 battery.

    I Run 4 Renogy 200AH AGM Batteries in 24 Volt Packs with 2 Renogy 60amp MPPT Charge Controllers for each Battery Bank and Running 2 Victron 24/1200 Inverters and 1000 watts of Solar Panels on each System and They run anything I Throw at Them. I'm stuck in a van in FL without AC so I got a 5000 btu window unit and put it in my back window, put 460 watts on the roof with 60 amp mppt, and 200AH LiFePo4 and 1000 watt sine wave inverter... its been working but im about to try it in the florida sun and see if it cools the van while sitting in the sun

    Thanks for your video because I have been looking for a setup like this. I'm not ready yet because every time I watch a video it's something different And just like you said its thousands of dollars. I don't have thousands of dollars to spend.

    Well you seem pretty smart to me. I can wire a house or a car. Your video explained more than most of the SMART guys out there in a simple form people can understand.

    With your three batteries wired in parallel you need to move one of the cables supplying the inverter to the third battery. In your present setup you are taking power primarily from just one battery and that is NOT good for the "health" of your battery bank.

    Cool setup. Wonder if you could get away with less battery if you had a few more panels. Been researching building a setup like this in Florida. Only problem is wife would kill me as well with all those components out in the open! Keep us posted when you build a cabinet.

    You need a need a fuse on the battery and the solar in & out. Shorter battery cables would be better and you dont want the pos & negative battery cables coming off the same battery in the parallel chain

    • @derekwaltman6
      @derekwaltman6 3 місяці тому

      What size fuse is recommended

    • @grindychum
      @grindychum 3 місяці тому +2

      @derekwaltman6 If you have a 100ah battery and plan to draw upwards of 100A - 100A fuse and 2 AWG wire. The fuse for the solar controller will be the max your charge controller is.

    Yesterday I ran an Frigidaire 5000 btu for 10 hours with a wetown 1500 and xzny 24v 2560…. It averaged 350 watts and it was hot outside, did an awesome job, boy it was hot yesterday. I did it as a test because my ac just arrived…. Good luck everyone also ac said it was Canadian lol energy rating

      Hey @zodaguado6655, I’m trying to do a similar set up like yours in my pickup truck camper. Could you elaborate more on the equipment you used. You’re the first first person I found that is achieving some good results. 10 hours of AC off of solar would be amazing. I live in Florida.

      @@oscarcandelaria6287 so it was Solar stored in a wetown 1500, 1280 wh, combined with a xzny 24v lifepo,,, they were both fully charged, the lifepo battery was connected to the wetown power station with an XT-60 to alligator clips…. It charged my power station at 333 watts an hour… as the 5000 btu Frigidaire ran, the power station was getting recharged by the xzny 24v 100 amp battery,,, worked really good and those frigidaires are strong… that was running it max too

    Maybe set the ac on Eco mode and let it run longer or even full time. Something to experiment with. Thanks, great info.

    I want to set one of these up. I would be using a 5,000 BTU AC, which is about 500 Watts. And the space is very large, so the compressor likely would not shut off. So a constant 500 Watt load.
    I am thinking of getting 4, 250 Watt solar panels, to run the AC during the day while charging the batteries, then using the batteries at night to run the AC all night.
    How big/many batteries do you think I need to do that?

      From what little research I have done I want to build a 500 watt system for a 5000 btu window ac. Good build with no problems would be, 400-500 watts of solar and about 300Ah worth of battery storage. But that is for a 24volt system... I live in Arizona so that is why i have those numbers. But if you live where it is cloudy and not very sunny.. maybe bump up to 800 watts of solar 400-500Ah battery... But again this is just with what little research I did, I am definitely no expert at this stuff

      Hey sorry about the late response! I actually made this all for JUST about 1k (USD). I bought some used solar panels and made my own cables which saved me money! The most expensive items out of my set up are my batteries, hands down. I wouldn't say it was easy per say, but I was in the same boat. I had zero knowledge going in, but there is so much out on UA-cam and Redditt that you can make it happen! Just remember to be careful since it's electricity!
