Fantastic video! I have 7 Tesla Powerwalls (in a townhouse) and Tesla Solar Panels and a 2020 Model S … Currently, I cannot use the system due to 2012 - 2020 vehicles don’t work yet… :-(
I don't have a battery, but I DO have excess solar. I'm considering the Emporia system whose EV charger uses the electric smart meter in conjunction with the $40 Emporia Vue via wifi to throttle the charging rate. Do you know if this works?
How do you have the powerwalls setup? You can set how much you want to share with car charging. You could see in the end of the video it was pulling from the powerwalls to meet the 10 amps you set.
It was pulling from the grid because the current going into the car was greater than the Solar and PowerWall combined could send. I have the exact same setup, and it is very clever. Also you need a Tesla wall connector Version 3 to make it work with your car (unknown if it works with non Tesla vehicles). If you have a Powerwall, the gateway monitors what is happening, so if a cloud comes over (and the battery is not full), it will not send any power to the car. The battery MUST be full before it stars to fill the car (at least that's how I understand it, but I could be wrong).
How does this work in Texas using Tesla Electric as Utility provider. I have the $25,00 per month for unlimited evening charging? Can I cancel this and just use Charge on Solar?
Great explanation!
Thanks Pro great video
i have a solar roof and two powerwalls, did you tie the ev charger through the sub panel or to the main home panel??

Time to upgrade to a Model Y ;-)

Hey, I tried to charge with solar but I don’t have the option available in the Tesla app and is updated to the latest version, any help about this ?
You need to switch 'Charge on Solar' (in the Charging menu) ON in the car FIRST. Then reboot your phone, and you should see it on your phone.
@@greghudson9717 there's more to it.. Trust me.
My wife had the same situation. Deleted the app and reinstalled it and logged back in and boom the option appeared.

Can I set it up to charge from 0% only on solar ?
Hi, how can I reset and remove “charging on solar”? Thanks!
I believe you just unpair the car from the apo.
Does it work with non powerwall inverter?
Yes, but you need the Tesla gateway.
Way to complicated. I just want to charge my car on solar
that may be complicated.
