Tip for you - When you select a layer mask and did the 'Select > Inverse' and reapplied it, an easier way is to just click the layer mask on the layer, and hit CTRL + I (Invert) This will obviously change all the blacks in the mask to white and visa versa. Both methods don't take long but I think the invert way might save a few seconds :)
