I would totaly buy an audiobook read by Troy Sanders
Lol
jackoblllllllll GREAT CALL I never thought of it until you said that. Great voice.
thanks, you're avatar is pretty cool
jackoblllllllll thanks man. It's actually from a mastodon shirt I believe. Love their art.
Totally. I was just thinking that. Troy's voice makes me feel like I can handle anything. So much strength in his speaking.
Man the deeper I dig with this band the more I like them.
Massively talented. Humble. Selfless. Inspired.
Makes for not only fun, exciting art - but thought provoking too without being saturated in pretentiousness.
This is the kind of interview you could never make with Brent
Márton Illés 😂
I can’t watch Brent’s interviews, I prefer to watch the other 3 guys 🤷🏽♂️
Brent is the best, I get the music, I do not care for the interviews...
Brent is a psychopath and that’s why we love him, but uhhh I 100% agree Brent ONLY takes his music seriously, these interviews they do with Brent you can tell he ready to go play 🎸
Facts, love Brent he’s an incredibly musician and a funny dude but he’s just not a great guy for interviews, Brann/bill/Troy make for way better interviews. Brent would probably be really cool to hang out and have a beer with tho.
Troy has a voice that massages your eardrums
Except when he sings. Then he blows your fucking head off.
You're both accurate
Slowing things down and focusing on melody was the best choice they ever made.
Gwarden NZ I agree, Blood Mountain maybe my favorite record by them, but you need some fucking variety lmao, once more round the sun has some great tunes as well
I fucking love Mastodon
TimB4305 love them too!
I love how they seem like genuinely nice people.
Daniel Rodriguez "seem"? They are nice people
Sy Opliger How do you know? Have you met them?
troy has a really cool voice
Great interview! Loved specially how Bill was very talkative and funny, because sometimes he seems to be the silent and serious one
Bill is the fucking hiding-in-plain-sight rock of this band; I'm happy he's finally getting his moment in the spotlight. He's fuckin earned it. Love this band, love every album, love em as open-armed musicians and dedicated pros. Still don't know any of their lyrics though.
Axwage
Lol. You know a band or musician is great when the music alone is enough to draw you in.
Me too lol 😂 they’ve been one of my favourites for the last 10 years, i dont really know any of their lyrics
Bill is a Riff Lord for sure, many riffs come from him and Brann likes to hum riffs to bill like “Blood and Thunder” was straight from Brann’s brain, to Bills guitar, Bill is the fucking backbone, I LOVE Brents solo’s but I’d like to hear a few from Bill myself (and some singing)
@@sinisterminister9920 seems Bill just doesn’t really care for solos that much so that’s why Brent does almost all of them, he’s clearly capable of writing some Badass solos because he’s an incredibly good guitarist but I think he just like churn out riffs and jammin. Kinda the same with singing too, absolute killer vocals but he just doesn’t like to sing that much, just prefers to play mainly. Kind of a bummer because we’re probably missing out on some awesome solos and riffs but it’s whatever, Bill is still the fuckin man
@@puppetmaster8551 no doubt bro!!! I’d love to hear one of his solos but Bill is truly the mastermind behind a lot of their best riffs, unsung hero - literally 😂
band is by far the amongst the best today...
Troy sounds like a professor. The metal professor!!
Great interview, really enjoyed that. I liked the depth of the questions. Unique. I think the interviewer ( pardon me for not finding his name) did an excellent job of being honest but yet still being a fan. Troy and Bill were honest with good questions. I really enjoyed this vid. Excited to hear new Mastodan!
I was with my dad when he bought Crack The Skye on a whim after hearing it in a skateboard shop back in 08. I was only 12 or 13 at the time and didn't realize what the lyrics/theme of the album meant.
there's a lot of musicians that learn so much and give us amazing things with their age, but something about mastodon and those guys really do it in a great way.
Great interview, thank you!
These guys are fucking amazing. Followed their passion for music, never let anything stop them from living their dreams. I find a lot of inspiration from their songs, their life stories and personal experiences and I relate to their lyrics a lot. Mastodon is my favorite band of all time, or in this current lifetime.
Herri Hernal same here not favorite yet but its getting there rapidly the more i listen and learn about them. I also envy the amazing chemistry between the band members
They all got married and won a grammy... they cant stop progressing
So much respect. These guys are true artists. Love it.
Tai Lopez has snuck into a Mastodon interview to spread KNOWLEDGE
this comment wins
A bit of Jake Roper in there too.
as soon as I opened the video I was expecting some books and a lamborghini right here
REVOisMYname GNAWWWWWLLLLEEEEEDDDDDGGGGGEEEE
Jesus fuck. Troy. Narrate my life you silky voiced angel.
I love listening to interviews with great artists like them
Just became the biggest fan of Bill with that Deftones White Pony album reference. 2 favorite bands of all time. Please for the love of gawd organize a tour together and play Detroit!
Amazing interview!! Great to know Bill feels the same about white pony
This interview made me re-realize how amazing these guys are in so many different ways. They truly are one of the best bands making music these days. I aspire to write songs like stuff from Crack The Skye. I'm very hyped for this new album and to see them next month.
Brent wrote a huge chunk of The Hunter album as well, let's not forget. And as for the comment that Brent is going "off the rails" or going rogue watch Mastodon live and tell me that guy is anything but committed to rocking the fuck out as 1/4 of what makes Mastodon great.
well funny thing is he was going off the rails before he was ever in the band lmao
GyroLamb if a guy like Brent was truly going off the rails he'd be fucking up at shows constantly (which surprisingly he doesn't) and probably be dead by now.
Brandon Rucker What I mean is it's normal for him
He's just not a spotlight guy. He likes playing and hanging out with the guys, and leaves the rest to them. He doesn't like to be overly serious.
Mastodon is such a great band. The evolution of their music is amazing & Emperor of Sand shows that so clearly. First time I heard them was when the Blood & Thunder video came out and have never stopped listen to them since then.
Very mature guys. I'm not really into Mastodon, but I'm gonna check their albums more carefully after this interview.
Who is the interviewer? Whomever he is, he is one of the incredibly select few music “critics/interviewer” that actual is worth their salt. A good give and take established with the band.
This interview is even better after hearing the album at least 20 times.. If they ever write a book together or have one written with their input buy it for sure.
I really like what I'm hearing from these guys - true professionals doing it the right way.

My aesthetic is when the interviewer has done his homework and knows what he talks and asks about.
SK1PTER And somehow doesn't realize Crack The Skye had a huge, glaring concept.
Nu wave retro
Seize The Day. Put down that new rug today.
Carpet Diem.
I know, right? What a stupid statement. Kind of encapsulates this whole interview. I'm not buying this last album on vinyl. Mastadon has turned into a couple of girls.
Damn, not even 4 girls. That's harsh.
SlashemVC mastadon?
SlashemVC it’s ok to grow. Most of us do. You can stay a piece of shit as well if you choose. Good luck.
O' Captain, my captain
Lastly, the interviewer mentioned the concept albums and I can see how that gets old for the band members but I truly TRULY love a great concept album that takes you on a journey and once again, Mastodon does that shit RIIIIGHT
Mastodon concept albums are always awesome, I’m glad they went in a different direction with the new record tho. Easily their most emotional album with their best lyricism ever imo, so many hard hitting lyrics and songs on hushed and grim. Would be cool to see them do another concept album in the future tho because those were disappoint, band never disappoints in general
Love the don't waste your time POV. Love these guys.
Seen Mastodon live with Gojira a few years ago. Best show ever. Hope this new album can be 'Crack the Skye' level.
They're a great band and great musicians, and the interviewer's doing a great job too - and that's rare!
So, this is fun.
Mastodon one of the last great metal bands... interviewer did a great job too
Also White Pony is a fantastic album
I reach for white pony, too. its my favorite album of all time!
thank you, that's a great interview, in every aspect that's a great interview....
I just really got into this band and I haven’t been happier these guys are fantastic and I can’t wait to see them with gojira .. let’s go!!!!
Absolute respect for these guys
Can't wait for this album to arrive.
Troy Would Make A Great DJ ..
Just Love this Band !!!
And Im Damn Near 60 and a Prog Rocker ...
But to the point...
They Do Rock and a VERY Talanted Band ...
Thank You MASTODON !
Love Bill's Jeff Spicoli impression at the beginning.
cool that bill likes Deftones.
Skeeter McBeater 2009 they toured, Deftones, mastodon and Alice In chains. They're all fans of each other it's great!
Never knew that. That tour needs to happen again!
Who doesnt?
@@derekstitt4375 That is one incredible lineup. Hopefully they do this again, I have to see that
@@derekstitt4375 Was reading the comments and seeing that lineup made me say 'holy shit' out loud. Love all three!
Bill has the greatest mustache of all time. Troy has the best hair of all time.
"Hold your tongue and bite it too" is my new favorite saying
Great interview, great interviewer.
EXCITING TO SEE MUSICIANS WHO DON'T SAY "Y'KNOW" EVERY 4 WORDS!
Empire Goodness Really hate that you know.
Empire Goodness 3:30 bill says y’know 5 times in 10 seconds
@@dakotafawson1223 gottem
Brent entered the chat.
Far out Troy is so composed. Makes me feel like a complete buffoon
Really great interview!
Be nice to hear an interviewer say im sorry for your loss but thank you for the art
lol, I don't think I've ever heard Troy curse in an interview until today.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND HOLY SHIT
hope the album will be as crack the skye or even better
Great interview!
Love this.
Great interview.
This was a good interview. Troy seems more somber than his usual joking self.
Dude on the far left looks like Keegan-Michael Key doing white face with a wig on.
cannot be unseen
psycold dude i have been thinking the same thing since I started listening to them a couple of years ago
Oh my God, I can't unsee it now.
Wait these guys are all in other bands ? I feel stupid for asking,But what other bands are they in with albums that are released?
2:00 He is talking about his wife. That makes me f..n sad.
brilliant
Where is Bill's burritos t-shirt?
Was Crack the Skye not story based?
It was he's just a stupid.
LeeChavezMusic it's a story of a paraplegic boy who practices astral travel. Goes out his body and too close to the sun burning the cord attaching him to his body. He floats thru time and space and is summoned by Rasputin in the past using black magic to summon souls. The boy possesses Rasputins body and tells him he is going to be assassinated bc he's from the future and knows history. Rasputin still goes thru with it to free the boys soul and lead him back to his body
They're so fucking cool
1 of the biggest reasons I love this band so much is because I literally feel like they are my homies😂😂 seen so many vids and doc’s on them since 2006 When I first heard them on HEADBANGERS BALL that’s right... that long ago, but they are so funny and REAL idk just feels like I’ve known them forever, and you know... one could say that they are Proggy but tbh they do it so well. So many “proggy” band to me are just corny, like Dream Theater is nice and all but, I hate all the abstract synth shit they put in their songs that don’t make sense, and a lot of bands do that. Mastodon reminds me of Rush... like they have synths and pads they put in their music but it ALWAYS just works and works for the song... that’s doing it RIGHT and man they are just killer album after album... so overlooked and underrated but that’s okay... Ima fan 4 life guys
as always they make another album to smoke weed to and explore it
At 1:35, I mean, what a MAN
0:50 - 1:35
:39 Really? Since Leviathan? Has this dude not heard Crack the Skye??
falcon45ca He must've missed it during his Panic at the Disco years.
White pony + Crack the skye = lml
The Emperor of Sands..Also makes Glass.. Pretty transparent
Never knew Bill had a lip ring hidden under his mustache.
No story since Leviathan, dafuq is he even talking about? Leviathan didn't really have a story, it was all just semi-paraphrasing Moby Dick. Both Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye told much clearer, more direct stories.
Himmelslaub he said it was the clearest since then
This interviewer doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground...
this is a record that will be very hard for me to digest.....
Deftones ,white pony!!! Great album to turn to!!!
"...for sure..."
No concept album since Leviathan?? Where has this guy been? Really????
That was a damn good interview. And Mastodon are fun humble dudes except for B. Hinds.
Brent is fun too and isn’t like some super cocky guy, he can be a dickhead sometimes compared to the other guys tho. He’s the definite wildcard of the band. I’ve seen countless people talk about meeting him and how he was really nice and friendly to them which is good to see, he is a little crazy tho lol
Is Troy god reincarnated?
Hooray for acid
Bill is so hot
Would I watch a Blood Mountain movie?
Um fuck ye
Why do interviewers insist on talking so much? Ask better questions and you'll get more from your subjects.
sultans curse is about his mother having cancer, she must have opened tutenkamens tomb. Or been super pro war in the middle east.
I just discovered Mastodon, I thought rock was dead. I was so-very wrong. I find most of the metal genre, with the comical kookie monster vocal and look I’m cool, I’m downtuned sludge very boring . These guys are musical and muscular what a concept .
One of the best bands in the planet and they just released another great and unique album. Their sound changes with every album but it always sounds good and still sounds uniquely like mastodon.
the drug part...!!
“Deftones white pony” sick
The interviewer annoys me. As soon as he's done asking a question he stops looking at them when they start to answer, even though they are looking right at him when answering the question. VERY disrespectful. It's as though the interviewer couldn't care less about their answers, because he doesn't even offer them the courteousy of looking at them when they answer his questions. Pissed me off.
Quit being a bitch
White Pony :)
This interviewer reminds me of Jordan Schlansky from Conan. I mean, he acts nothing like him, but he could play his body-double.
..... Seems Brent is writing less for Mastodon these days.
Cold Dark Place in the summer though I thought, Mastodon album written by Brent.
I wonder why though?
weedlife13 It's a god damn shame. from what i understand is that bill wanted to write more for the band.
I think Bill writes great shit too, but Brent has killer riffs and cool style. Great band overall really. But yeah, more crazy Brent riffs!
weedlife13 Bill is a more typical metal riff writer. Brent is a chicken picken wizard and his riffs are cool and unique and what make mastodon mastodon.
i want to sex this album asap!
Max Bakedfries You want to sex this album... okay. Interesting way of putting it but I guess I also want to sex their albums
question guy was not cool legumes.
in particular, the audience member
This guy interviewing them is too worried about sounding cool
hehe
