I agree with what is said in this video. However, I would like to point out that Malhotra once seemed to approve of 'whiteness studies', which is closely linked to this harmful leftist propaganda. I downloaded an article of his from 2004 called "Dialog on Whiteness Studies", that used to be on one of his websites, but which I can no longer find on the internet. I have not reread the entire article, but on the first few pages, I find the following quotation: "For years, I have wanted to start a new discipline, which I had tentatively called Westology, to study the West in the same manner as Indology was started in the 19th century by outsiders to study India. But luckily, I came across an exciting new academic field that already does much of what I had envisioned in Westology. This field is called Whiteness Studies (or White Studies), and is taught in over 30 US colleges. For instance, in Princeton University, an undergraduate course on Whiteness is among the most popular courses in the entire university, and the vast majority of students taking it are whites who want to better understand themselves." I have no problem with examining history honestly, but I hope he is no longer so enthusiastic about whiteness studies! What we need to do is listen to the decades of arguments such Leftists have been making. You'll understand why they are so enraged at Israel, and you will see that they have fairly coherent arguments, even if (in my opinion) the arguments are incomplete. The issue is complex enough that you find people, often, only are able to bite off small chunks of it at a time. So, a certain amount of leniency must be given--as for example I give to RKF Jr. on Israel. I personally view the pro-Palestine perspective as having two key elements: 1, fundamentally they think that ethnostates of any stripe are unacceptable and are destined to produce inequality and ethnic conflict, and such ethnostates shouldn't be so joined at the hip with the West. 2, Israel has committed a large number of injustices against the Palestinians which would explain and justify the Palestinian attitude of resistance, beginning with the founding of Israel and occurring at many times ever since, suggesting a possible strategy of ethnic cleansing.
Leftists have commented, for many decades, that Israel is inherently Right wing by its founding structure, and it was destined to produce ethnic strife and inequality, and it is a type of state that has no part in the liberal West. Leftist commentators predicted that Israel would grow more and more Right wing and brutal as the years go by, and I think these predictions were made possibly like 70 or more years ago, if my memory serves.
Personally, I think the Left needs to blame the Palestinians more, because, regardless of whose fault everything is, or who struck the first blow, the only choice we have for the present is to look for solutions. And I think the Palestinian leadership has been disorganized and a difficult peace partner. I often ask myself the counterfactual: "If the Palestinians had been shrewd and well-organized, instead of being passionate and embittered, would we have found an adequate resolution by now?" I think the answer quite possibly is yes, but I am not certain, because I also find the Zionists and other Right wing elements in Israel very untrustworthy. It's entirely possible, in my mind, that they have been playing a long game to undermine the indigenous and take the whole area for Israel. Nonetheless, shrewd and restrained political organization I think would have been the correct move, but the Palestinians really dropped that ball, long ago.
That the Left overlooks the obvious shortcomings of the Muslim world is obviously hypocritical, but we know that the Left loves to sacralize victims. It's silly, but not at all abnormal, and this does not make them "Jew haters". It's just the standard tunnel vision, and it should be called out, but not in such an imprecise way.
Also, I'd like to say that I've noticed my anti-woke heroes starting to go a little too hard and getting out of touch. Jordan Peterson did this a long time ago, and at this point I find him insufferable--as much as I'm grateful for his past contributions. My anti-woke people I think are making the same mistake that was making the Left so crazed: reifying "theory". You have to be careful with this, because, as we know, "theory" often turns out to be a sand-castle that didn't have enough substance to withstand reality. I think you all need to relax a bit. I know that's hard to monetize, but if you aren't careful you'll stop being thoughtful and helpful, and I and many others will lose interest. At the end of the day, you need to hold yourselves to the standard of doing helpful, thoughtful work. If you get lazy, we're gonna notice.

I know about it, and I think some percent of Muslims probably have a worldview that makes them difficult to get along with. However, I wouldn't characterize the Palestine/Israel conflict via this lens, as if it is all about Jewish resistance to dhimmitude, and Palestinian insistence on such. To me, the grievance is much more basic and is reasonable. Zionism was a hare-brained scheme, to my knowledge. Many Jews did not like it at the time, and if I were a Jew I wouldn't either.

I agree with what is said in this video. However, I would like to point out that Malhotra once seemed to approve of 'whiteness studies', which is closely linked to this harmful leftist propaganda. I downloaded an article of his from 2004 called "Dialog on Whiteness Studies", that used to be on one of his websites, but which I can no longer find on the internet. I have not reread the entire article, but on the first few pages, I find the following quotation:
"For years, I have wanted to start a new discipline, which I had tentatively called Westology, to study the West in the same manner as Indology was started in the 19th century by outsiders to study India. But luckily, I came across an exciting new academic field that already does much of what I had envisioned in Westology. This field is called Whiteness Studies (or White Studies), and is taught in over 30 US colleges. For instance, in Princeton University, an undergraduate course on Whiteness is among the most popular courses in the entire university, and the vast majority of students taking it are whites who want to better understand themselves."
I have no problem with examining history honestly, but I hope he is no longer so enthusiastic about whiteness studies! People are allowed to change their mind, but it seems he was once perhaps not so fond of so-called white people, since all the evidence suggests to me that whiteness studies is hostile to this category of humans. Perhaps I am extrapolating too far, but it does show how the politics of ethnicity is highly emotional and can lead even intelligent people into traps. I am in favor of well-defined human rights for individuals, not for groups based on DNA (which includes gender as well as race).
However, as Malhotra points out elsewhere, human rights has also been used as a weapon by some Western power groups against Hindus. For instance, I do not think Modi is guilty of 'genocide' in Gujarat, as some Indian leftists have maintained. Indeed, the Indian supreme court has exonerated him. Yet Modi was denied a visa to the USA on this basis, no doubt due to leftist propaganda by Democratic party operatives. But I also object to a UA-cam video by Malhotra called "Why people of India did not get genocided like Native Americans" (Sep 27, 2013). This is commonly believed to be a fact by many, thanks to leftist historians such as Howard Zinn, but I think the reality is that disease rather than 'genocide' was responsible. The European takeover was a gradual and sometimes military encroachment, as has often happened throughout the world. This is different from genocide a la Hitler. So the situation is complicated and highly political! We all have to careful and constantly examine our prejudices.
I really like Hinduism and all the many Hindus I have met, and I am glad that many of them have come over here to America, but I worry that obsessing over past wrongs can generate hostility between good people who might otherwise have been friends. At the same time, we must not forget the past, so we do not repeat mistakes. But when teaching these past injustices, we must strive to be accurate and choose our words carefully. Incendiary and misleading language is the powerful weapon of the left. This is contrary to dharma and to truth itself.
