ES-DE on Android: How to configure RetroArch to close when exiting a game

- Option 1 (Recommended): "Quit on Close Content"
1) In RA go to Settings / User Interface and then set "Quit on Close Content" to "CLI"
2) In RA go to Settings / Input / Hotkeys and set your "Close Content" Hotkey to the button you prefer
With those 2 settings, when you press the close content hotkey you set in step 2, RA will quit correctly and return back to ES-DE if you had started your game from ES-DE
Option 2: "Quit" hotkey only
Note: In this option the "Quit on Close Content" setting won't matter as you will be directly setting a hotkey for the "Quit" action. We recommend Option 1 instead as it provides more flexibility but this option will also work if you prefer it
1) In RA go to Settings / Input / Hotkeys and set your "Quit" Hotkey to the button you prefer

Can someone help ! when i launch a game that uses retroarch it goes in black screen and thats it ! When i dont use ES DE it works fine just from retroarch

Hoping you can help. I'm using the Logitech G Cloud to emulate. I have to quit RetroArch to use Daijisho and select another game. If I don't quit or close out of the app completely the next game won't load. Any thoughts?

im trying to setup es-de on a nothing phone but when i sideload retroarch it just says the app is meant for an older android version. any idea if there is a version or retroarch that works for nothing phone or at least the latest ver of android?
the version that has worked well from our testing is always the latest 64bit android release direct from retroarch website

edit* i downloaded f-droid version and it works, all is good now just need to do some testing
That is very strange, retroarch doesn't have a adicional command to open a fresh game? I relly need to config. a 'close' or 'quit' button?

Is it possibly to use stand alone emulator in es-de and retroarch for system that does not have stand alone emulator. I have an odin 2 pro and my es-de is set up with all stand alone emulator but for atari jaguar system i would like to use retroarch. Can this be done use to different way for different systems.
yes it can, on a per game or per system basis you can change with emulator is used

How do you leave it on though? All I want is with my rp4 how do I turn the screen off without having it close and keeping it on? To me it gets annoying if I have to turn the screen off and it closing my game
hmm i’m not sure if i’ve run into that before. are you saying that when you put your device to sleep that RA closes? if yes, then try looking at android’s battery management settings for RA. android be shutting it down on you because its either trying to save battery or free up memory.
@ES-DE Frontend I am having a weird issue with ES-DE and AetherSX2 Version 3064. when I attempt to launch a game within ES-DE it open the emulator instead of the game. any ideas what is causing the issue? I am using 3064 because the other versions available for some reason my games would crash to the desktop. I am using a retroid Pocket 4 Pro and the issue happens with both .iso and chd file formats. The other emulators work fine.
I am using AetherSX2 version 3668 and I am able to boot directly into games from ES-DE on my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro (my games are in chd format). The main thing that comes to mind to check is to make sure your ps2 directory is (1) set up in AetherSX2 and (2) is all lowercase e.g. `ps2`. Those are the 2 things we have seen that can prevent games from booting as expected. But please join our discord if you can for further help.

@@ES-DE_FrontendI would second that. I noticed that for aethersx2 and dolphin it will keep booting into the same game unless the emulator is closed. But only on the RG556 (does not happen on my RP4P). Probably Anbernic’s janky software.

the theme is called Colorful-Simplified (github.com/anthonycaccese/colorful-simplified-es-de). It can found in the theme downloaded inside ES-DE.
What launcher are you using?
