This is becoming ridiculous. A statue doesn't represent the "lOsT cAuSe" it's simply a side of history you don't like. I recall Hitler doing the same thing. Ambrose Powell Hill was never even a slaveholder nor did he approve of the institution.
We're on the same side here, but H*tler is the most lied about man in modern history. The biggest liars are the 'persecuted' group who control most of our media.
And yet the 1860 census indicates that A.P. Hill owned slaves in Maryland and Mississippi which challenges your claim that he was never even a slaveholder, which may still be correct if this is a different person of the same name, like a relative. So let's pretend he wasn't a slave holder or approved of the practice....he fought on the side that defended slavery, so Hill's integrity was certainly negotiable regarding slavery.
Respectfully to 8News, I didn't really see an 'argument'.. It looked like a grown man screaming and berating another grown man, who was trying to respectfully ignore him. It also kills me how the report uses euphemistic cover to soften what was happening here 'removing a container', etc. I mean, they were basically desecrating a grave. Personally, I do concur with the man when he was interviewed at the end. People are feeling fear when they see themselves being destroyed in effigy, and watching their ancestors & heroes graves dug up. What group of people wouldn't be anxious & afraid watching that happen to themselves?
Fully agree. The way this event was "reported" is an embarrassment to transparency and objective reporting. The men wearing " confederate jackets" were not the ones who were armed or angry, but stood in respectful silence. That said, their decision to wear a confederate symbol was bound to strike and touch a lot of nerves. I see why the statute should come down, but this report fails to honestly represent what happened and which groups were calm, and which were belligerent. There was no real attempt to "educate" or listen, but just to express anger, which is unsurprising given the symbols and feelings that day. But this report was shamelessly misleading and inaccurate.
Grave robbers. Good men misjudged by fools. A.P. Hill and other southern men fought for the protection of their communities, families, and homes along with their future prosperity. It is unjust to judge them as slavery was a huge part of the American south since Americas founding. They were raised to believe it was ordained by god. This pardons them from any wrong doings that were not specifically done during the war.

The statues represent the country’s history, no matter how complicated. Taking them down is to censor, whitewash, and potentially forget that history. Removing statues is a slippery slope that could lead to the brash removal of monuments to any slightly problematic person. The statues do not cause racism and could be used to fight racism if put into historical context.

Uh no....they fear change because they're refusing to acknowledge the flip side of that coin. Bill's remains aren't being obliterated. They're being respectfully reburied elsewhere. The statue is in storage and it was pointed out that they want it placed in a museum. That's not obliteration. That's proper context. When a nation is formed and functions on the backs of slaves, it loses any claim of a proud heritage. There is nothing to celebrate or defend but plenty to learn from. Confederate monuments or grave in battlefields and museums is fine. However in public parks, or on streets, or state capitals it isn't. A level of romanticism has been fed to a lot of white people regarding the Civil War with little to no focus on what the symbology of flags, and monuments means to the people whose history was erased in chains. Not to mention the 100 years that followed. If whites had simply behaved in those hundred years then maybe the monuments and symbology would be seen as less toxic....maybe. But that's not what happened. Suppression, segregation, terrorism...racism was embraced and used, and often applauded. They are reaping what has been skewed because an image that was edited had been fed to them, and now they don't like what is behind that image. And that's change....and that level of change scares people because it challenges them to reevaluate a lifetime of thinking about a certain topic that's personal. So when you say they don't fear change...that sounds disingenuous. Because that's exactly what it is. Americans, like much of the world, historically struggle with social change.

This is ridiculous history is history good or bad. Why we all blame Taliban for destruction of Buddha's status or why we criticized ISIS for destruction of Assyrian ancient artifact when in reality there is no difference between us and them.
That's really bad comparisons... You're comparing the removal of A.P. Hills remains (to be reburied elsewhere) to the Taliban allegedly destroying a statue of Buddha which is a religious statue? And your comparing the destruction of Assyrian artifacts by ISIS to the removal of a Confederate General's remains? I never once accused you of having brains but I'll try to explain this to you. The first comparison is purely religious. It is in no way comparable to relocating A.P. Hill. One is destruction, the other is respectful relocation. The Hill statue is in storage, so get a grip and lose the melodramatics. ISIS destroying ancient artifacts is not the same thing as removing Hill's remains and putting his statue in storage. Aside from having to demolish the base, the rest is preserved. ISIS had the intent to destroy with zero focus of preservation of any kind....big difference porcupine. If you had paid any attention, those involved with the removal want Hill's statue in a museum which is a good place to have it. Battlefields, museums, university exhibitions, are all fine. We don't need that stuff in public parks, state buildings etc. There is a huge difference so let's not be melodramatic. Here's what you can do, ask a German who lives in Germany as to why there is no allowance for grande monuments or tombs in random public places regarding those who served in the Third Reich. As you say History is History but oddly enough, Germans didn't go to great lengths to erect things. Why? Go find out.
