Unfortunately the quality isn’t the best. I try to source it at the best quality possible but even original streams had lots of fps issues. One of my personal favorite games of all time, especially with the rivalry between Scarlett and bomber at the time.
No worries! So glad you posted it. Loved those burrowed banelings and how she dealt with the non-stop marine push. Also had the best marine splitting I've ever seen. Such a crazy game.
Low quality might have made it better! (For this match only) Couldn't see the burrowed banelings till they detonated on top of the marines, made my heart jump
@@askiportal I totally agree. *SPOILER* That last burrowed baneling trap for the win was so unexpected and really adds to how tense a game sc2 can be. It's insane how the game was just suddenly over with one tiny bit of micro
This may not be the best technical game ever played, but it's the game I get most excited for. Back and forth action, desperate moves paying off, and that fantastic finale - perfection!
God, I was here, the only professional starcraft event I ever attended. When those last burrowed banelings went off, no one could hear anything, it was like an explosion. Everyone jumped to their feet and it was just a roar for minutes before it calmed down again. Also I got to meet Day9 afterwards and he gives incredible hugs.
I wish I was there! I actually am the person who created Habitation Station. There was the Red Bull map tournament that was hosted on Team Liquid where the winning map got a paid expense trip to this tournament. Habitation Station ended up getting 2nd place and lost to a map that wasn't very good, but had rising lava so everybody jumped on that train and voted it to #1. Oh well... I still won a pretty sick graphics card for getting 2nd place... but to be able to witness this event live and to have one of the most epic sc2 games played on MY map. Bummer! :)
God, this game was so legendary. Weird to see how much things have changed in how every facet of the game is approached since then. Scarlett remains one of my favorite players, every time she & bomber played was hype as heck.
It felt like a slugfest between the Marines and the Mutas. Just a constant back and forth in exchange for endless waves of both units. And then those Baneling traps in the end just capped off the series.
Tyr bane trap was the perfect ending to an absolute slugfest. I was in disbelief when i saw it life. Bomber was my favorite player in those days, but this game i was happy just for the game, i didn't care who won or lost with that ending
Immediately knew what game this was upon seeing the thumbnail. Absolutely my favorite match of all time. The ending ALWAYS gets a visceral reaction from me.
nostalgia at its best, i was still in high school when i was up 2AM watching this game live despite having class in the morning. Im now almost graduated university and the fact that this channel has been active since my high school days is amazing, love your work and efforts @SC2HL
The first time I saw this game was when husky casted it. I just remember him yelling "there it is" when the 1st round of burrowed baselings went off. This game will always be one of my favorites.
Especially for it's time, I'll always remember as one of the most insane games ever. Glad to see it's stood the test of time and remains a highlight of competitive SC2 history to this day. The plays, the casters, the crowd - simply a fantastic showing of the scene at its best.
Two major takeaways from this amazing game. First, it really is just an amazingly scrappy game. Its like both of them realize that if either one of them takes their foot off the pedal for even a moment, they'll get overrun. It's two exhausted boxers that can barely stand and yet are still throwing haymakers at each other, Scarlett couldn't even tech up to hive for Adrenal Glands and 3/3, things that absolutely would've turned the corner if she could've gotten them, because she needed to pump just about every single mineral and gas into her army as possible, just to hang on. Second, huuuuuuuge credit to the camera man. Spotting those two burrowed banelings and then zooming in to emphasize it, that tension was just palpable and the explosion massive thanks to the well-framed angle. Pulling that off live, that can't be easy. And while they missed the burrow on the final explosion, even then, you could feel the exciting close of the match just by how the camera was swinging around, trying to follow the retreating Zerg and the pursuing Terran. Just an excellent example of how important good observers are for this.
18:34 you can barely see three banelings separate and burrow at the lower left while she is on the run. Too clean nobody notice unless you look frame by frame.
Agree with a lot of other commentors, we can looks back on this today an know that they may have made some tactical or technical errors, but this is likely the greatest game of SC2 ever.
Bomber vs jaedong would be an amazing series to highlight next. It’s what got me hooked on pro sc2. Bomber in general just had such insane micro above the rest for his time.
They were both riding a fine line, Bomber was relying on his 3 Orbital Commands to MULE up and worked to perfection, did you see how fast he sucked up all that gold? And used it to pump out unreasonable amounts of marines. Scarlett was doing the opposite and pumping too many drones to the point where she had to use them to defend and didn't have the money for a hatchery with Bomber attacking her non stop.
such an intense match. I usually dislike banelings because they cost a lot and only attack one time but damn when your opponent can't see you bury those bad boys... oof lol, great job, Scarlett as always
I was at this event and anytime it comes up I mention... Bomber had to do a fan meet and greet immediately after this match, so I ran out right when the game ended and got his autograph and a picture of the saddest looking bomber ever. Not positive I still have it but I think I do
This was almost a decade ago. The efficiency of players today are insane compared to the skill level a decade ago. You can see this in both SC and SC2. The current top players for both games would've smoked any competition from 10 years ago as the new generation already have the nice foundation laid for them, they only need to practice their execution.
you started with less worker so the armies got dangerous before your economy really exploded and as a result bases also mined out slower meaning you had less incentive to really take over the map since you gained less from it and it was harder to defend in the open. Also the game started with a proxy so even if it turned into a macro game it's been pretty scrappy all the way through and not really a lot of breathing room to build workers
Honestly I feel like bomber played better then Scarlett in the game. Scarlett just got really lucky a few to many times and was able to pull through. That's the gift of playing zerg
By played better you mean literally spamming nothing but marines for 15 minutes with half the workers and still able to counter flying gas units? Much impressive very skill lol
the decision making of scarlet in this game was insane. you're probably looking at like, the tactical plays and yeah bomber had better positionning and engagements. But the decision scarlett makes are just so clever. Like, the burrowed banelings aren't "lucky", she researched burrow at a key point in the game, a tech not many people would even think about and she then steered bomber into a situation where he'd be vulnerable to them. Or the fact she didn't rebuild her base and kept trickling in army while long distance mining, this requires to be very calm and understand the situation perfectly. A lot of people would have either desperately tried to rebuild the economy or pulled the drone and tried a desperate attack but she instead went for choking bomber by slowly picking off what she could while maintaining the army lead so he couldn't just easily defend or walk across and finish off everything. Again that takes a very good reading of the situation.
I highly recommend game analysis video by Day9 (commentator of this match), the real hero of the match are the mutalisks, doing an absurd amount of damages to make the climax possible
old terran, op af, sitting on less than 20 workers against 4 base+ full drones, and zergy/bane/muta. Terran just spams marine only, and holds while winning every fight on.

@@SC2HL Was that because they adjusted the in game timer or was it because they adjusted the amount of workers you started with? I haven't played for like 8 years at this point

One of the best baneling detonations ever.
That fact that you could hear both the casters and the crowd holding their breaths when bomber was nearing the burrowed banelings was incredible.
No one saw them. It was a total shock when all of the marines evaporated and the game was suddenly over after so much back and forth.
@@TheFeralWarrior8 I was talking about the ones at 17:35 that they did see. Although one could argue that that was already the game ending move.

The fact that for most of this game bombers only attacking unit was marine just speaks to how silly the unit was at the time lmao
10 years later and ByuN is still proving how silly the unit can be if micro'd to it's fullest
Bomber mined out that ENTIRE gold mineral patch with mules and he STILL couldn't make enough marines. Unreal.
