When we had a chance to shoot their flagship demo model, we jumped at the chance, mostly because Ciro has never been a roof-tent and he was particularly excited about this.
But what a build this is. A shower, a 270 degree awning, solar panel, roof tent, icemaker and even a fireplace! Yes, an indoor fireplace.
The Hilux itself has been beefed up to handle the extra weight, with an uprated braking system from Powerbrake and impressive looking suspension from Old Man Emu, not to mention the lift kit and those massive Maxxis tyres.

Please do more videos of this kind. There's lots of local manufacturers and specialists that do overland conversions. Your videos can do a lot to support local enterprise and encourage people to look towards the outdoor life for adventure!
This is a fantastic setup. Job well done to the guys at Alu-Cab. I was actually watching a video of an overland setup for a Toyota Tacoma when this popped up in my suggestions and it's so refreshing to see this kind of content from a local channel.
I like this a lot. Only thing I’d change is to use a single cab over a double cab bakkie. I think there’s more opportunity for customization that way

Look, the setup is really nice and aftermarket accessories have come a long way in making camping setups easier to set up. But depending on price and the trip to be taken, a decent Off-road trailer should be a better solution. Fuel consumption is the same for me towing an Echo with a Hilux 2.4 Auto and its not as unstable on the open road as this. You might even be able to go on rougher terrain with the trailer, than in this. All said, this is a Showcase vehicle so marketing is the goal here, not necessarily functionality. Looks good
Agreed. I wouldn’t take this setup on any difficult tracks. You be better off leaving the van at a campsite and exploring.
If you’re just touring it’s perfect I think. Also a good van plus your truck is much more expensive overall. Towing sucks, and this sets up quicker, too.
Only issue I find with the Alucab setup personally is there isn’t much storage space. Long range trips might be an issue.

Everytime i see a build like this i genuinely ask myself if there is actually someone that uses it, always clean and new. Very cool and all no question about it, but does it make any sense at all? Who uses it? Why not building an actual VAN instead?
How much of the 1000kg payload is left for passengers? And why do need a shower cubicle in the the middle of nowhere.
Shower cubicle is for in case when there's other vehicles on the trip also - and you're not a nudist...

Hi , since well we are facing pandemic and the scare of sleeping at the hotels crips the mind. Why can’t we have a website special to turn our bakkies for adventure . I like the way they made that one as it will fit my family
The water tanks could be placed lower for a better center of gravity I think. Just my opinion.

Hi there, thanks for watching. We did enquire with Alu-Cab about the pricing. They said that as every build is unique, they prefer to receive enquiries and then tailor a build for the client. All the details are on their website which you'll find in the description of the video
The folding shower is not a Alucab design , it was originally designed by an Australian company called Quickpitch in western Australia over 4 years ago and the owner who designed the device is a South African who is also the owner of the company, this concept has been copied by dozens of other manufacturers around the world who have very rarely acknowledged who actually designed the device
How can You compare this to a hotel?

The price of the vehicle and alucab is exorbitant, much cheaper to sleep in the lodge? They supply 5 star food, bed, shower, aircon, etc. And nobody wants to steal your vehicle. Eish.

Could never get behind the Hilux 100%...always felt like it was a Car-Truck. the Corolla interior just makes my shit soft...and then i saw that moose test fail and my gosh...what a shitshow. If it would fix the interior to be more rugged and they added better engine options in latin america i would go for one.
