I'm always astounded at Lang Lang's precision, clarity, dynamic 'span', and, adventurous, at times, interpretive zest for music. This is an extraordinary beautiful sounding piano, too. tw.
I absolutely love your sensitivity, your playfulness and lightness, your moments of surprise, superb depth and reflection and the freedom you give to the listener to find him/herself in all those moments... thank you!
Why would you be surprised? Lang Lang is one of the most superbly gifted players ever to arrive on the scene. However, I much prefer an earlier, sublimely elegant, manifestly joyful performance he made of this concerto videotaped in Carnegie Hall early in his career. Some of the passagework here strikes me as a bit overblown and too bombastic for Chopin. Nevertheless, the marvelous thing about Lang Lang is his uncanny ability to do whatever he happens to FEEL like doing in performance. His playing may not always please those who demand strict adherence to convention, but it is NEVER less than stimulating and unfailingly INTERESTING to say the very least.
My favorite part: 20:56 - 21:43! I first heard this tune from the movie Splash! It's such a beautiful tune :) I would like to have a music box or snow globe with just that part looped!
Lang Lang's playing here is not airy, delicate, or light, which is how most others play this piece. Instead, Lang Lang's playing feels velvety, and the crescendo exudes a boundless power. Me like!
Muito obrigado igualmente wünsch ich ihn alles Gute ! Tolles Konzert, schon zum beneiden das man es selbst doch nich kann, dafür ist zuhören auch eine Gabe.
How he manages to make EACH AND EVERY SINGLE NOTE sound SO CLEAR it was as if chunks of ice were falling on the finest crystal glasses filled with the relevant amount of liquid to represent each individual pitch is NOTHING SHORT OF A MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Julie Gill, Flat 15/4, 200 Lincoln Avenue, Knightswood, Glasgow, G13 3PS, Scotland, Britain (NOT u k!!!0.
this recording is very good , definitely top 3 in chopin competition last stage for E minor, and i have to say he is not playing chopin style, and unfortunately LANG is not playing like this anymore,
BOM DIA essa música para mim representa um verdadeiro lamento acompanha os dias atuais que estamos vivendo profunda do no coração mais tenho paizão Isis
You do NOT refer to a performance of SHEER BRILLIANCE as "cute" for EXPLETIVE'S sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How BLOODY CONDESCENDING AND PATRONIZING CAN YOU GET?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER forget who you are talking about, and ALWAYS make DAMNED CERTAIN to show this MAESTRO THE RESPECT THAT HE DESERVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "CUTE" FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Julie Gill, Flat 15/4, 200 Lincoln Avenue, Knightswood, Glasgow, G13 3PS, Scotland, Britain (NOT u k!!!).
I remember my viola teacher saying to me "MORE SCHMALZ!" Here, though, I'm not sure we need more schmaltz. Lang makes us enjoy this fantastic music with plenty of schmaltz already... :)
It IS an unusually STRONG, VIRILE interpretation of this work. I, personally would prefer a little more restraint in the passagework which sounds a bit too bombastic -- almost LISZTIAN -- for the delicate, aristocratic character of this concerto, but your criticism is unwarranted and frankly out of bounds. Lang Lang is one of the very greatest talents to emerge in the last century.
i knew someone whose name was William W. Williams. Guess what his middle name was? ;) I called him Internet (www)... :) But I also had to write a letter once to Peter A. Schmuck. If I was him, I would have changed my name or killed my parents - or both.
Bad Sound, bad rubati, and unrythmical: he can't Play dotted notes! Any of the 9 finalists in warshaw (one played the 2nd concerto) played much better!!!
GOODNESS!!! What a whole load of nonsense you do talk!!!! It is BLATANTLY OBVIOUS that you do NOT have the faintest idea of what you are on about since MANY of the LEADING figures in classical music consider him to be on a par with the likes of Rubinstein!
Lang Lang is more of a populist than a truly serious classical musician in my opinion. His sound is too metronomic, jagged and 'computerised' for my taste. No sense of freedom in the musicality. All of the great European and American classical pianists are in a totally different league to this guy. He completely fails to capture the essence, colour and character of the piece and doesn't really take the listener on a proper journey so to speak. It's a no from me.
So he's too experimental, has unpredictable rubato, and doesn't follow composers' instruction AND he's too "metronomic" and "computerized". Pick one will you?
i don't like this pianist , he plays like in a circus , no tempo , no sensation , no charisma , the music without hart , without soul , just a virtuso for children ,
Poor knowledge of the music. The technique is not great at all, as mentioned below, bad rubato and in the wrong places. I am not a big fan and I am still trying to find out what is great on him.
it is true that he loses something when you only hear, without watching. The sound is not so deep and warm as the golden sound of Argerich, Rubinstein or Richter. The phrase is okay, he actually plays it quite polite, however the technique is perfect, as always. "Poor knowledge" is badly exaggerated, he certainly understands music better than one million of us, he is just from a very far away culture which had no contact with Occident for centuries, so probably he has an original and unprecedented vision. Again, music is not like stone, can be interpreted in many ways and his one is not amateurish at all. You are just biased and not rational, Lang Lang IS great, this doesn't need to be proved anymore. Maybe not as profound as some very FEW others, imo. Everyone has his weakness.
I almost cried listening to this, this is by far my favourite interpretation of Chopin piano concerto No 1
I'm always astounded at Lang Lang's precision, clarity, dynamic 'span', and, adventurous, at times, interpretive zest for music. This is an extraordinary beautiful sounding piano, too. tw.

Chopin to najpiękniejsza spuścizna dla ludzkości.
@18:22, chopin's magic start to reveal itself
I don't get what people are criticizing about. This is great! Brilliant technique and the piano sounds "just right" to me.
Brilliant technique and powerful sensitiveness !!!!
Amazing performance!
thanks for sharing.!
Sensational. Lang Lang is awesome. Chopin can rest in peace some more
What a beautiful rendition. Thank you, Lang Lang.
12:00-13:42 = fantastic, and than the Orchester at 13:43 = it's like being in heaven!
Than from 14:21= the piano again. ❤
I must say I'm surprised how good this performance is!

I'm surprised because eventhough he's a gifted pianist as you say, he never pleased me before. And yet, I'm not a purist.
My favorite part: 20:56 - 21:43! I first heard this tune from the movie Splash! It's such a beautiful tune :) I would like to have a music box or snow globe with just that part looped!
I love it when I go back to movies I watched as a child and realize that some of my favorite pieces were used. Splash is a perfect example of this.

his first and last name the same Lang ( 郎 )
not same chinese character 郎 and 朗
Long Long

Tout est beaucoup trop rapide. A comparer avec l interprétation de Samson François et l orchestre qui l accompagné que je trouve excellent.

Just like stutter sometimes, and affected pianissimo, he is really not good at Chopin
Bad Sound, bad rubati, and unrythmical: he can't Play dotted notes! Any of the 9 finalists in warshaw (one played the 2nd concerto) played much better!!!
+vladibaby79 can't agree more.
+vladibaby79 Don't forget it's Zubin Mehta you're talking about.
