Tre's Choice

My entry for the 2010 Red Ribbon video contest. Red Ribbon Week promotes staying drug free as well as obstaining from all controlled substances. This year's theme was "Drug Free is the Choice For Me". I wanted to do something different and unique since that theme seems so cliche. I knew lots of people would be doing pretty generic videos. Not that they would be bad, but I just wanted to stand out.
So after thinking very long and hard I came up with this concept. I animated all of the controlled substances to show they were "bad". Originally I had them black but it looked really cheap so I messed around with some things and gave the substances that Magma effect. The other effects were especially difficult for me, being a complete beginner with Adobe After Effects. The whole project took about 30 hours. The sequencing took about an hour. The bulk of the time was devoted to doing the special effects which took a lot longer than it would have if I had been accustomed to AE. Its not the best, but I am proud of the result since I know I did this myself. :)
I did mostly everything from filming to mixing the music. The main help I received was from my mentor who taught me how to implement my vision via the special effects. I could not have done this without his sacrifices of both time and resources.
