I am SO glad you're doing this game. I dipped out of X-Wing when they did version 2.0 and I've missed your videos. The ship models absolutely are gorgeous. How they were able to get the frakking PILOT'S NAME stenciled under those cockpit canopies is a miracle of modern engineering.
Hey man, I hardly play X wing but have all the ships, multiple times. I was about to buy the updates for 2.0 but I guess not? Why did you drop out? ( yeah I am still wondering how the names got etched in there )
@@captnwinkle There are two main things that got me out of X-Wing. The first one is that I just got tired of trying to keep up with it. Every new wave brought not only new ships but new capabilities and rule changes... sometimes a LOT of rule changes. If I tried opting out it put me at a competitive disadvantage. Which brings me to really the main reason I dropped it. I think that X-Wing, more often than not, is won or lost while you're building your list. It's won by people willing to spend the hours necessary to comb through the data and find that combination of ship, crew and weapons that'll yield an edge over the other guy. I want to stress that *I am not knocking people who enjoy doing that*. If that's what they enjoy that's what they enjoy and there's nothing wrong with it. I'm just not one of them. So some friends and I still play some X-Wing 1.0 as it was right before 2.0 came out, but mostly we've shifted to Wings of Glory and Battlestar Galactica. Those games rely much more on flying your plane instead of building your list and I personally just find them much more fun.
I’ve watched your videos for a long time now, but first time I’ve made a comment. BSG should be arriving tomorrow so really appreciate the video. Cheers from UK
This is definitely an Ares game. So similar to Wings of Glory, Sails of Glory and the new Tripods and Triplanes. Very fun looking, especially with the more advanced rules. Very nice looking game. Nice introductory video. Thank you.
Thanks Crabbok for a great tutorial. Grew up with the original show, love the reboot (looking forward to the rumored new series), and, as an avid X-Wing'er, am ready to fly vipers and raiders. Navigating to the advanced rules video right now...
This was my first opportunity to a demo for thoughts game. I'm impressed. So far it looks pretty unique. I'm looking forward to a demo of the more advanced mechanics.
This is Wings of Glory ( also made by Ares Games) just with Battlestar Gallactica ships which the ships do look absolutely amazing. Actually all Ares miniatures especially there world war 2 and ww1 aircraft look awesome. But they all use cards for maneuvering which I don't really care for. If I do get into an Ares game it would be Wings of Glory World War 2 because I just love that eras aircraft. But I'll remain open minded. Thank you Crabbok for introducing us to new games. I remember watching the original Battlestar Galactica when I was a kid. I loved that show growing up.
That's incorrect. Its a completely new set of rules designed specifically for BSG vector based combat with Y axis positioning from the show. It's not just a re-skin as you state.
@@strategicelite5120 Its the same basic ruleset as Wings of War(Glory), Sails of Glory, X-Wing, etc. Each has it's own nuances ri make it unique. Just like the Commands and Colors System. Same basic rules tweaked for the era it portrays.
Very excited. I think I mentioned this before, but it seems more cinematic and scenario based as opposed to the whole x-wing tourney scene. I think this game will call for a Heroes of the Aturi Cluster campaign. Especially with the custom pilot rules.
Interesting... First, I absolutely LOVE the sculpts. They made some beautiful ships and I look forward to seeing the Classic models as well. Second, while the game play seems to be easy to learn, it looks as if there are too many "variables" to the end game - variable damage, movement deck, and the movement tile mechanics. I am also not a big fan of d6 odds (16.667% per side...), but I can live with that if the game is fun. Finally, I am trying to imagine the advanced play - "rotation of your ship" mechanics, "critical" effects, stuff like that. I look forward to seeing the Adv. Play video. I know I sound rather down on this game. I do want to say that it looks pretty fun regardless of the things I don't like. I do like things like the Control Panel - that is WAY cool. I like the smaller firing arc. And, I like that it's Battlestar Galactica.
Looks awesome, I'm curious to see what the advanced rules look like. I am curious as to what the maximum number is on a damage token. Thank you for this video.
How have I never seen this video before… pays to check out the archive boys and girls. Fun game, too bad it’s ‘dead’ now, but I like to use these ships in the Battlestar Galactica FFG board game, makes the map more fun
So there are some pretty complicated rules if we got direction, kinetic energy, altitude and so on. This is gonna be interesting to see the advanced play
Have you seen others playing this game Crabbok? I saw it at Gencon but not much since. Those are great models, but I still miss the original Cylon raider.
Shame that the publisher wasn’t able to properly support this and just let it fizzle out before we got many releases. The models were excellent quality and the gameplay mechanics with the inertia rules were fun.
Looks interesting. I am assuming that the momentum and rotation will allow players to strafe or flip around and fire like we've seen in the show? I love BSG, and am very excited to try this out for myself.
The ships look good, but some of the rules seem a little awkward. I'm curious about room for expansion. I haven't watched BSG in a few years, but I don't remember a wide variety of ships.
Question: after performing a difficult maneuver, you take a difficult maneuver token, and the next move can not be a difficult maneuver right? So how do we remove the token, in order to perform another difficult maneuver.
the game looks like it's all about precision movements but the components make me think actually moving pieces with that much precision will be very difficult.
Is it me, or does it seem that the movement of a ship is very short? It seems it would take forever to get around the the board and line your self up for an attack. In Xwing, you can really get around, if you want to, with speeds 3 and 4.
The models look great, but visually the bases, cards and manoeuvre dials visually look a little cheap. I could have that completely wrong as I'm looking at this on video rather than in the flesh - what's your view on the quality on everything else, other than the models?
So basically I have a deck that I pick from ... a deck that should NEVER have marked cards, but instead of cards it has cool looking hexagonal cardboard thingies, that are ... unsleevable? Oh my....
Those cards are my greatest concern. Wings of Glory did the same, but the cards were rectangular with rounded edges. They last a good long time, but I'm afraid hard hexagonal corners aren't going to have quite the same longevity. You can see in the video that some of the edges are already damaged.
What turned me off from this game was the lack of variety in ships. There's only like 4-5 models, where the first 4 are just slightly remodeled and repainted of the base Viper and Cylon.
Maneuvering looks too clunky in this game: since you have to slide the maneuver hexagon away that is laying below the ship. No way you can keep the ship(s) steady at the exact same position unless you have a steady hand similar to a surgeon. Really ruins the game I feel :(
Like the way this game looks and the way you really pilot your ship. Been watching the show, done 2 seasons and boy.....what a bummer that proved to be.....worst sf-serie imho to date. Really tried to like it but it has soooo many flaws. Original series was/is a better product.
It doesn't seem more complex than X-Wing's dials and maneuver rulers. The big differences that I can see are that multiple moves are planned in advance (like Ares' Wings of Glory games) and that BSG:SB incorporates inertia in the advanced ruleset for allowing things like strafing. X-Wing is simpler in that respect because inertial drift isn't an option.
Would love them to do a Armada style game -- BattleStar vs Base Star
Battlestar Galactica Fleet Battles would be AMAZING!
I am SO glad you're doing this game. I dipped out of X-Wing when they did version 2.0 and I've missed your videos.

@@mackbonham1 Nice, I appreciate the input. I also felt like it, too many waves and ships I didn't even care for. I guess I'll keep the 1.0 then
Stumbled with this game while looking for Armada stuff. This looks amazing! Way better than x-wing.
Ordered to Starter sets. I think the advanced rules will be so cool to see in your vids... looking forward to those.

The game it's from the same creator
Thanks for posting this. BSG is my favorite show of all time, and I'm super stoked for this game. Nice work on the tutorial.

This game looks like a lot of fun! I like the models. They are pretty big!
I am so excited to see the advanced rules! There seems to be a lot to work off of!
Just got my first core set and another arriving in a few days ..... the models are awesome !

Great video, the stickers make buying multiple core sets an option, I didn’t realise they were included when commenting on your previous video.
Those movement rules look super neat. I'd be interested in seeing all the cards!
Can't wait for Battlestars and Basestars!
The game looks interesting....can’t wait for the playthrough.
Movement looks like Sails of Glory. Great video, thanks.
General Krabbok! You are an entertaining one!
Wow, UA-cam suggested this to me in 2024 lol.
Great game
Those models look pretty great!
This game looks great! Similar to xwing but different. Looking forward to giving it a try
I'm so excited this game is out! Only thing I'm afraid of is the limited ships in the franchise
Thank you for the intro, look forward to more content

Micheal Cormier i believe is 6.
I like the way it plays!! Very cool

I can't wait for the Ship-of-Light expansion set
Cool . This looks fun
Bought it at Essen 5 weeks ago and did a few games that I apprciated.
This looks wonderful, I want it
I like the original Cylon ships. They all look good though. I also like the ship bases better than X-Wing only because they look more durable.
The gravity stuff is awesome
Would you be willing to do a comparison video between this and x-wing?
It’s completely different.
They're very similar.
Looks like a great game
Those models look legit!
So there are some pretty complicated rules if we got direction, kinetic energy, altitude and so on. This is gonna be interesting to see the advanced play
Have you seen others playing this game Crabbok? I saw it at Gencon but not much since. Those are great models, but I still miss the original Cylon raider.
Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun same here.
Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun those are coming as an expansion kit like X-Wing does.
Original ships are coming.
It would be cool if we could get old school raiders! "By your command..."
Really helpful there is two ships I’d like to see the moth and the raptor
Shame that the publisher wasn’t able to properly support this and just let it fizzle out before we got many releases. The models were excellent quality and the gameplay mechanics with the inertia rules were fun.
Waiting for raptors and heavy raiders!
Hey, have you seen the Wave 2 preview? You're about to get your wish!
10:05 they do in Battlestar Galactica (and in The Expanse and also in real life) :D
Looks interesting. I am assuming that the momentum and rotation will allow players to strafe or flip around and fire like we've seen in the show? I love BSG, and am very excited to try this out for myself.

Looks great. It looks like I'll be spending more money lol
Thanks man, I'm thinking of buying this game so this was really useful. Is this game still active though?
I will suggest CIGAR BATTLE MATS for your galaxy looking table mat
Looks more affordable than xwing due to apparent low model count. Very interested
I think I'll use these ships with the x wing game. The x wing game has a better movement mechanic and attack mechanic
Who here can't wait for FXitinPost 's advanced redux of Obi-Wan's and Darth Vader's final duel?
Question: after performing a difficult maneuver, you take a difficult maneuver token, and the next move can not be a difficult maneuver right? So how do we remove the token, in order to perform another difficult maneuver.
Eh, looks alright. I like the overboost feature and putting two cards together, but i dont like having to slip them out from the bottom.
Does look a bit different than X wing. I just wish it was the 1978 ships. I guess I'm just old lol.
the game looks like it's all about precision movements but the components make me think actually moving pieces with that much precision will be very difficult.

Having played X Wing, this game us far superior; simultaneous movement, firing, AND damage makes for a very evenly balanced game.
This looks a lot like Wings of Glory (the new version of Wings of War)... and I found the reason why: it's made by the same company.
i like the mechanics of this game but also it seems suuuuper complex
Is it just me, or does the maneuver mechanics seem slow for the scale? A couple of inches forward per turn seems off compared to the scale.
Can you have Starbucks flying a Raider?
how long are the vipers? 1"?
The models look great, but visually the bases, cards and manoeuvre dials visually look a little cheap. I could have that completely wrong as I'm looking at this on video rather than in the flesh - what's your view on the quality on everything else, other than the models?
I just want to collect the mini ships.
Cool
So basically I have a deck that I pick from ... a deck that should NEVER have marked cards, but instead of cards it has cool looking hexagonal cardboard thingies, that are ... unsleevable? Oh my....

So say we all
The game looks good but to much is going on I would like it more if it was more like x wing. X wing is complex but simple to learn.
So say we all.

1 ship 4 player

Really ruins the game I feel :(
This is not a problem with any of the other Ares games like Sails of Glory
X wing my duuuude
I’m totally confused lol! Think I’ll stick with X Wing
Was excited for this game, but now that watching this, the movement system looks a little overly complicated and clunky.
Like the way this game looks and the way you really pilot your ship.
Been watching the show, done 2 seasons and boy.....what a bummer that proved to be.....worst sf-serie imho to date.
Really tried to like it but it has soooo many flaws.
Original series was/is a better product.
the models look great , but that game looks crap , don't like the silly dial . not for me
Those plastic boxes really put me off the game
Hmm... looks overly complex with the 'cards' and the 'dials' and such.
Playing SW: Armada and X-Wing 2.0 I don’t see any reason to invest into this.
This seems incredibly clunky.
