The WSJ has lost all credibility with me, this isn't the first time they have claimed Elon did something negative when in fact he didn't. Hopefully one of these legacy news agencies will go too far to allow Elon to take them to court and win when they lie.

@@stephaniewaters1777 Let's say you are right...and we convict Musk of being a druggie based on that video. What is the point of the story 6 years after the fact?
So Musk is a druggie in 2017. Tesla sold 103,000 cars in 2017. When the report came out in 2023, Tesla is on its way to selling 1,822,000 cars. That's a 17X difference.
In addition, Musk is required to undergo regular drug testing as part of SpaceX contracts with NASA. Which by all reporting have shown not so much as trace elements of any drugs.
So I would agree with Jim Roth and many others commenting here that this is not a journalistic story from a reputable newspaper that has won 39 Pulitzer Prizes. You made it clear that it was your opinion and that there's other sides to the situation. Clearly saying something like "Tesla should never advertise" doesn't make sense. EVERYTHING in extremes is bad. Tesla could make a much safer car but have it be way heavier, go slower, and be less appealing as well.

Rob's quiet humor strikes again! Today he added another nugget.
The Wall Street Journal said Gwnne Shotwell had to take over from a drug addled Elon Musk at a meeting. I watched the full video. Shockingly - no sarcasm there - this moment never came.
    Previous favorites:
-Toyota added a faux manual transmission to its EVs. Though it is the opposite of first principles thinking, it does feature gears and you can even stall the car so it will be fun to drive. It is always interesting to see what Toyota is spending its Research and Development budget on.
-The head of Toyota said that perhaps someday they should consider a dedicated EV assembly line. Rob: Let me help you out there. Yes, you should.
-VW said they were cancelling plans for really pushing EVs until 2030 or beyond. Rob: You will never be competitive that way Toyota. Oops, I meant Volkswagen, must have been a Freudian slip.
-When Toyota was going to have fake gear shifting sounds and a fake gear shifting lever for its EVs. Rob: "as long as it's not distracting them from their technical breakthroughs in solid state batteries"

Rob, I'm capitulating on advertising. I've been holding out because I like the fact that the MY is the best selling vehicle w/o advertising. I like your point about getting Teslas on people's radars (called 'the funnel' in auto parlance) even though they may not be in the market for a few years or hold off a purchase to save money, etc. I also thought of another benefit...forcing demo inventory to remain fresh due to more impulse buying traffic. I'm not against more sales, just ridiculous wait times. Btw, I knew you weren't referring to CT and neither was I in my comment. Another thing I wish Elon would do before the Super Bowl ad (that is a good venue to kick it off) is make a loud post declaring Tesla will never advertise with an NBC affiliate due to unfair negative-biased coverage of Tesla. Then give the first ad to CBS and all the other networks will be put on notice to be fair going forward if they wish to see a dime from Tesla going forward. All this said, if the wait times go over a year, I'm still going to say I told you so.

Future demand is of course important, but at the same time we know that more Teslas on the road increases the exposure and awareness organically like it happened so far. After they get their Mexico factory up and running, all scaled up, they will probably need some higher profile advertising. Until then, it's rather money spending without a ROI.

I have watched hundreds of hours of Elon speaking in public. He is often this way, because he is nervous. He's got some kind of autism and public speaking is awful for him, but he's gotten better over time. Is some of it possibly attributable to sleep or taking an anti-anxiety drug? Sure. I am prescribed an anti-anxiety drug for public speaking, called propranolol. It's possible he takes it. It has some side effects which can make you slur your speech. But to me, having seen Elon speak publicly many many many times, this speech was normal for him. He just seems very nervous.
Now, what does all that have to do with anti FUD advertising? Nothing... Anti FUD advertising would be things like "here is Tesla's true safety," "here is Tesla's true rate of vehicles fires compared to ICE vehicles," "here is Tesla's true rate of crashes while on autopilot." But this discussion illustrates that there is not a lot of important news about Tesla lately, except CT. But that only for USA really. Tesla is really making a PAUZE in it’s delivery ramp-up , the launch of badly needed cheaper models and even clearly getting behind versus BYD: BYD Seal and possibly their truck that crosses water. FSD and Optimus are fantastic R&D projects, but far from launch. I think you might consider giving less data about production numbers in China and focus more broadly about competitive position. Lots of succes, because you are the only informative channel about Tesla that does NOT HYPE the stock

Some types of dysfluencies found in ASD individuals include stuttering, cluttering, other non-stuttering dysfluencies, as well as other atypical dysfluencies like word-final dysfluencies that involve abrupt stops in speech that affect the latter part of a word.”
