At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Old man here. Been bass fishing over 55 years and feel I’ve gotten more good tips and info I can apply in my world (kayak fishing) than any other YT angling channel. I watch & learn from many channels, but I like the way you explain things, think “outside the box”, and share with us in a direct to-the-point manner. Thanks Matt!

I've taken old small inline spinners, cut the hooks off, added a short leader or a longer clip swivel, and then rigged it to the a fluke. makes it look like the fluke is chasing a smaller bait fish.

Never attached a crank bait to spinner bait arm. However, when a northern bit off my soft plastic end of a Mepp's in line spinner, I did attach a shallow running Rapala to the spinner with great results. Thanks for the new idea!

Matt, have you tried slipping a piece of clear tubing onto the arm before making the loop? the tubing could be slid down over the loop and split ring which may keep the spinnerbait "above" the crank but not making it a firm connection. I will let you know. this may be a nice trick on shallow smallies on StClair this fall.

I am headed up to Clayton tonight to do some fishing and check out the Bass Open. I will build a couple of these before I go just to check them out. Love the idea. Back in the 80's I took a jointed floating Rapala, took the back half off and with a couple split rings was able to add a Worm hook and a Mann's Jelly Worm (we didn't have the selection of plastics that we have today). If I needed to throw it ini heavy cover I took the remaining treble hook off and went with only the worm hook and still had pretty good success with hook ups. The movement of the Rapala gave the worm a serious "S" motion. It was a ton of fun to fish. I think I am going to make one of those today also if I have any jointed floaters. I thought I had enough to do before I left today but no I will be busier lol, thanks.

I have been rigging the beetle spin type diy blades to my lipped and lipless cranks for several (5) years now (this vid is 6mo old atm).
From my experience, you don't want to right it to a balsa crank. The clacking will absolutely tear up the back of the lure. You HAVE to use plastic cranks for this. Expect the paint finish to be worm away where it is getting hit by the blade.
Using some of my old spinnerbaits is now on the list of gear mods to work on.

  • @jamessullivan5683
